As long as yasuo has his windwall he will be my go-to ban

SSShutTheDuckUp··130 votes·6,610 views

It's that simple. I hate this ability, I hate my projectiles being blocked, I hate my carries being blocked when I initiate as a tank. And to those of you who say "play around it" - I also hate missing opportunities to engage because some enemy character has the ability to nullify my engage just by pressing w in the direction of my teammates. Giving a defensive spell so strong on a high damage character will never feel fair, so I would rather just not play against it. Just a short message to RIOT, in case they eventually fulfill their promise to work on yasuo in order to make him less annoying.

And on a completely unrelated topic, just because I know that you will bring it to me - I would not ban yasuo if someone of my team hovers him. I would just hope the enemy team do it, and if they don't - I still prefer dodge penalty over a game with this BS.

I also find Yasuo´s windwall to be extremely obnoxious to play against, how do you deal with a good Yasuo that keeps holding the windwall threatening to block half your combo as a mage in a teamfight?

As a marksman looking for a chance to follow your tank?

As any kind of champion with even a single projectile skillshot you need to land?

80% of the advice i´ve heard in regards to beating Yasuo says "Wait for hím to outplay himself and go too aggressive for a easy kill"

But what the hell do you do when the Yasuo isn't a boosted bonobo then? Pray the heavens that he loses his mind and becomes temporarily retarded in the middle of a game?

On some champs it just feels nigh impossible to beat a good Yas, and in no small part thanks to his windwall :(

He can go 0,10,0 and still prevent your 10,0,0 Vayne from doing anything just by throwing it up infront of her face-

And yet somehow Lissandra is too strong and can't have a decent passive or any good base damage x)

Sraeg201311 votes

A Yasuo that is holding onto his Windwall to block a mage or a marksman in teamfight is a front liner that ain't doing shit and more often than not is dead.

Thefrostyviking15 votes

Not really. ' Because to get him to use it you have to go forward, and with his speed and dash range he can just immediately rush you (as a ranged) and delete you in a few hits.

That or if he can't gapclose for whatever reason he can just drop the wall and turn on your own fronline, usually killing them really, really fast because he deals a ton of damage.

That and the rest of his team will be on them as well.

Meanwhile the isolated tank and possible diver or assassin will be balls deap proverbially stuck without help behind the windwall and can only run away since their own backline can't approach.

Only way to really reliably beat a Yasuo in a teamfight is to catch him out and nuke him before he even has the chance to windwall, otherwise his team has the odds on their side right from the start x)

Sraeg201318 votes

I've played with, as and against Yasuo anywhere between normals and mid Diamond, and every mode since the day he was released.

What you are talking about is a fairy-tail.

An ADC and especially a mage don't have to or rather shouldn't be in the front line. If Yasuo can just walk/dash through your frontline and kill the carry, then I'm sorry, but your team is just a sack of potatoes.

A tank who was "cut off" has to spend not even half a second to get on the other side of Windwall and suddenly Yasuo can't follow up, because the enemy team will collapse on him. Also a tank, diver or whatever has hard CC at their disposal, so if Yasuo just straight up decides to focus a tank, he'll eat a stun and usually not kill them really, really fast.

Of course that's talking about a shitty engage.

Then there's the fact that teamfights are not XVII century battles when both sides formed two parallel lines and shoot at each other without moving. Windwall rarely remains relevant for its entire duration especially in teamfights.

Thefrostyviking6 votes

As long as both teams stay grouped the chances of a "XVII century battle" are actually high. Only when you throw in splitters or flankers does it shift.

And once a tank goes in they can't go out unless they flash, CC is abundant, thus getting to the other side of the windwall just doesn't happen unless Yasuo´s team let's it happen.

And what is supposed to stun Yas? His own tank will already have eaten enemy frontline's CC and ranged CC does not work on him.

One can argue as much as they like but fact is that Yasuo is the third most banned champion in Korea plati+, and he had a similar spot before the tank update as well.

Clearly the Korean's absolutely do not want to play against him, if he really were so easy to counter then this would not be the case.

If he wasn't easy to counter, he wouldn't have 46% winrate in Korean's Plat+.

Thefrostyviking7 votes

But if he were easy to counter there would be no reason at all to ban him x)

If i had to guess why his winrates are bad then it would probably be because people insist on playing him even if enemy team is abundant with melee CC or even direct counter matchups.

I don't really like Yasuo mains generally,or general "high skillfloor" champs, but they are dedicated to the champ if anything x)

Sraeg201311 votes

But if he were easy to counter there would be no reason at all to ban him x)

Your naivety is showing.

Orianna has ~3% banrate despite being a strong mage than can level entire teams to the point of functioning like a ranged AoE assassin. Meanwhile Udyr has ~3.8% banrate despite not doing shit. Or Yorick having 54% winrate with just as big banrate as those two.

Thefrostyviking4 votes

Ori is super situational though, against a good team she won't land any "strong" ults without help.

It often takes real time coordiantion to really pull it off on her, that or a hecarim meta.

Udyr has been rising since the preaseason started, the drop in enhancer support strength, the added weakness of tanks early and the fact that he can beat nearly any damage jungler head on makes him really strong.

Helps that a lot of small buffs have been adding up, however he is kept back by the fact that he is directly countered by Shaco, xin zhao j4, eve and Shyv whom all are popular currently.

Yorick is just a result of preseason changes same as Ezreal, but due to a vastly smaller playerbase that even know what his abilties does he isn't anywhere near as popular.

Wukong also sits at like 54% winrate with barely 2% pickrate, because hardly anyone thinks about the champ or has any experience with him x)

The ones that do are happy though.

And aren't Malz and Anivia way stronger than ori now anyhow? They don't need as much help from their team as Ori and they are really strong when played well......despite nerfs to keep them down.

Faceroll Tactics4 votes

I gave up reading after the first few sentences

So ori isn’t op because she’s situational but yas is when his ultimate just doesn’t work anywhere near the level with than without knock ups on his team? You’re moving the goalpost

Back with the Yasuo circle jerk again I see. Guess people need something to complain about now that ardent censor meta is over

SSShutTheDuckUp27 votes

One might say that there is a reason so many people complain about yasuo and ban him in their games. Another choice is shouting "ciclejerk lol" and "people ban yasuo 4 da memes". It is up to you to choose, but denying that this champion is annoying is flat out delusional.

Thefrostyviking18 votes

Yasuo remains one of the most banned champions in korea plati+

Even now he is at the third most banned.

You can consider this for a moment, why is it that the region in the world with the most skillful players have been banning a single champ for so long even when all the "average" regions insist on calling said champ weak?

Let's for a moment, assume that he is in fact strong with a good impact when played by a skilled player or when his team just has a lot of knockups. Easily carrying teams if fed or just......a team that has good synergy with him.

Would it make sense then, for the Koreans to be banning him out like he´s the plague?

Not too unexpectedly, the answer is yes, it makes perfect sense.

Durzaka13 votes

His ban rate is one of the highest (third highest in fact), and yet his win rate is nearly one of the worst in the entire game.

So what exactly does that tell you about the character? Not that he is overpowered, like everyone on Boards cries. But simply that people don't want to fight against him.

Thefrostyviking5 votes

I don't personally think he is OP, i think he is strong in the right hands or in the right teamcomp.

But obnoxious to play against regardless due to his windwall.

And in Korea they often work around a lot with teamcomps, thus it's no wonder they´d be able to use Yasuo well.

But he is indeed situational, and possible to shutdown by counterpicks, which they are also good at.

.....

If anything he is like a more annoying akali, except he is easier for melee to shutdown in lane.

But leading to what you said, who can bother to think about that each and every game? It's easier to just ban him and not have to worry about him x)

Karunamon6 votes

So what exactly does that tell you about the character? Not that he is overpowered, like everyone on Boards cries. But simply that people don't want to fight against him.

He's just plain un-fun to play against, in a way I don't think any other champ is. Windwall is a huge part of that - being able to 'nope' most ranged ults with the press of a low-cost button. (Much interactive, so counterplay, very skill. Wow.)

Even a Wood 5 Yas is just plain irritating. He moves too fast to punish, powers up passively with the movement pattern any champ will use, can clear waves stupid quick even at early levels, and I fucking loathe his VOs.

Most troublesome champs have a strategy that I can go over as the game loads. Blitz? Stay behind the minions. Katarina? Stay away from the damn knife. Teemo? Tread carefully around the jungle, sweepers and control wards FTW.

Yasuo? God dammit. Looks like I'm hiding under tower and hoping I have CC and listening to HASAGI!!!!11 all fucking game long.

I'd rather play against a Challenger Teemo than a Wood Yasuo.

I do not think Wind Wall is the problem, It is his crit. No champion should do that amount of damage.

SSShutTheDuckUp16 votes

Indeed yasuo is absurdly gold-efficient both with double crit and his Q cd being reduced by attack speed, yet his W is so stupid it dwarfs even that

I don't understand why he is supposed to have a double passive in the first place

Katherine6 votes

His critical damage is reduced rather heavily. He does 225% damage with critical strikes with an infinity edge. His Q only does 187.5% damage on crit with infinity edge. Soraka with the exact same build as him deals more damage with her auto attacks. The only reason he seems to do so much damage is because of his Q earlyish game being an extra auto attack. He really doesn't do that much damage compared to literally any ADC in the game save maybe Kalista once they both have items.

Tbh my favorite thing about the 10 ban system is that banning yasuo went from

"Dude wtf, we only have 6 bans and 130+ champs! Ban the OP shit first, not yas!"

to

"I mean, we have 10 bans, might as well ban that ass."

Now he's practically permabanned and I love it

Remember when riot released the 10-ban system and they said they would change something about yasuo bc he had a banrate of idk.. 80% I think. Not a thing happened about that either

Bronze 6 Yasuo10 votes

80% of game are bronze and silver so yea, I give up.

The Peter Policy9 votes

Pretty much this.

The people who have trouble with Yasuo don't play him or play him enough to understand his kit.

And since 80% of games are silver its very unlikely thats going to change.

Quick tips facing Yasuo as a mid

  • For the love of all things holy, pop his shield with an auto before trying to trade.

  • Realize if you're playing an immobile champ, yas excels at empowering ganks and chasing you down. You should be wary anyways as an immobile mid.

  • Don't take tp into a yas lane. You're not going to make up the ~20 cs deficit from giving first blood because you got back to lane to die again quicker.

  • Realize that once he ults you, he will do more dmg due to his armor pen (that comes from his ult) after that for some odd number of seconds.

Sraeg20135 votes

For the love of all things holy, pop his shield with an auto before trying to trade.

But, mr. The Peter Policy, Yasuo's passive shield has a 3 seconds cooldown, lasts for 5 and when it's down for the split second he will use Windwall which cooldown resets every time his passive shield recharges!

No, seriously. You can try to list all tips, hints, tutorials, counter-actions to Yasuo's existence and what I wrote above is the shit people believe in and will respond with.

As in, the last time I told somebody, the "cooldown" of Yasuo's Flow shield starts at ~17 seconds assuming constant dashing, I got called names and accused of bullshitting.

LuxannaVeritas2 votes

Sadly, that's just the way the Boards are.

Instead of trying to remember tips and tricks, people usually try to find ways to avoid the problem by falsifying excuses. They think that since he's 'annoying' they should never learn how to play against him.

I used to give those same exact tips myself, even though I do not play Yasuo/know Yasuo well. I just figured it out from playing against him. As Lux, I auto to proc his shield, and only unload skills when I land my binding. However now I've stopped telling people how to play against Yasuo because I'm just going to be downvoted/whined at by people.

It's pretty disappointing... [sg-soraka]

"Ya... Yasuo Sempai... I'm going to trhow a single ranged auto at you and... and that's it! I...It's not like I'm want to rush you down with all my burst after your shield is down or anything... baka."

Now I need to find a ranged tsundere champion, and and my ultimate counter to combat weaboo with weaboo will be perfect.

ninjaroxas2 votes

Most people don't have trouble with him they just find him annoying and unfun to play agaisnt. Why can't people defending him get that.

Zetic8 votes

Even though his wind wall blocks almost all abilities of the champion, His E dodges abilities so actually he has 2 abilities that dodge. Moreover E+Q may get till 900 crit dmg, don't you think that's too much? He can ult more than 1 champion, even if you disable him from his ult, the champions still get the dmg

SSShutTheDuckUp11 votes

I am not denying that yasuo goes far too deep in his "being obnoxious" fantasy. However the thing I hate most about him is the wind-wall. It is just a personal opinion and MY reason to permaban him.

higura6 votes

to me it's more than "annoying" and "unfun", it's straight up bad design.

where yasuo passiv shield and dashes is tools that allow him to play around his weaknesses, is windwall a ability that allows him to mostly ignore them for almost 4 sec, because most CC and high damage abilitys in the game is projectiles.

this makes playing against him as most champions feel very obnoxious, because of the fact that his weaknesses is completely unreliable for them, you can be playing perfectly and it still won't matter as it all depents on when and how he uses his windwall.

the problem to me is simple and i have said it before, yasuo should not be allowed to have this much control over when his weaknesses apply for him.

Gubaguy5 votes

Lets also mention that because the game is made of spaghetti code many things are considered projectiles when they shouldnt be, AND the way windwall is coded allows yas to block projectiles that technically have already landed, like when he pops the windwall .000001 seconds before the ashe arrows hits and it negates it, becuase sure.

And his cancerously high mobility, if you are running away and pass through a friendly minion wave, you are dead. Period.

And then theres his ults armour pen and damage reduction allowing him to facetank towers (i mena anyone can do that, but yas gains additional damage reduction), and 1v5 enemy teams udner their own towers....

Screw yas.

The Last Ballad2 votes

What things are considered projectiles that are not?

A projectile is any entity not classified as a unit (champion, minion, monster, etc.) that travels at any given velocity. That means the likes of Taliyah's wall, Orianna's ball(when used with q and maybe e), and Maoki's saplings(during the throw animation), despite not looking like projectiles, are indeed them.

See, thats the problem. Ornns ult is not a projectile, it shoudl be considered a moving AOE, plus lets compare champion abilities, taliyah wall is considered a projectile, but J4 ult, anivia wall, trundle pillar, NOT projectiles. Instead they are considred terrain, and have their own buggy problems, like champions able to ghost through J4 walls becuase they are programmed as minions. Same with ornn able to walk through walls with his W.

Now what about nami ult? Thats obviously not a projectile, but it is for yas wall. Vel W, its a rift on the ground, but coded as projectile... Sona ult, projectile... It goes on and on, yas's windwall is bullshit, and the only people who claim otherwise either dont get why, or play yas and want it to stay bullshit.

anything that is pushed/ thrown (all skill shots and range aa) or pulled(in case of ornns r and returning os talons w and orianna's ball/shens sword through q) by a force at any speed in a certain direction is a projectile ( eg all the abilities u mentioned in your second paragraph). I think YOU are missing the point, yas's windwall able to block half the abilities in the game with no counterplay is... BAD GAME DESIGN! Even other sources of blocking/avoiding abilities haev counetrplay, morgs spellshild only lasts a few seconds and can be taken off with enough damage, taric ult still allows CC, and physical terrain can me attacked through, but yas's windwall has 0 counterplay, once its active its just there, for its duration, and in many occasions neagtes abilities that have already hit (such as the clip where he windwalls an ashe arrows thats already hit him, the explosion animation was half compelte, but he windwalled and negated it).

Its a bad ability with 0 counterplay on a toxic champion, just accept it.

Azirs wall for example . Boy was i surprised insecing the yasuo mid just to not insec him not only that but also completely blocking my soldiers movements. i mean is this a projectile? GP Q is a projectile, autoattacks, Ezreal Q, ahri Q not fuckin azir ult or nami ult or ornn ult.

Poppystar5 votes

I honestly think his windwall needs a way to be taken down (like yorick's w). Yasuo's wind wall is a basic ability that can block huge play making ults and abilities and everything. I think if it was an ultimate ability, I wouldn't mind because ults are supposed to be game changers. But this basic ability can block this. For example, his wind wall can block ALL of Nami's kit. At least if the windwall would disappear after a certain number of autos or a certain amount of damage, then it would still serve a purpose in laning phase and as a wall to deter or distract or zone without completely fucking over a team fight late game for however long it is up.

PokladnicaZla4 votes

The worst part tho is that it's functions as a defensive ability for the whole team. If it was something like Fiora's W nobody would complain, but to have it last almost 4 seconds Y?

Troll for Trump4 votes

I find his dashing around obnoxious and near impossible to deal with if you don't have hard cc. Playing with them, Yasuos tend to be self-centered, requiring you to pick champs around him, let him farm up alone, and camp his lane. They can easily take cs with EQ combo. Worst part is, they're right; if you build a yasuo comp, it's almost impossible to lose

The part I hate in particular is not being able to walk through the wall to attack him as he just dashes through you and he's safe again. Plus the hitbox is absolute shit, but no surprise there from Riot. Multi-directional wind ftw.
