And at the end of the day we still want Solo Queue

SSShutTheDuckUp··213 votes·5,883 views

Pretty much the title. I do not want to deal with premades anymore. Not in my team, not in the enemy team. I do not want a quality of life changes for solo players against premades. As a solo player I want to face solo players, I want to team up with solo players. I want to have those 20% of the team impact, instead of something like 1% when i am paired with a 4-man group. Everything about the topic have been said about 5 thousand times in the Boards so far, so I know I am not saying anything new. Just a reminder.

P.S. I have no issues whatsoever for DQ to exists. If people want to play as groups - so be it. However - I want a solo queue. I do not mind for them to coexist. And, by the numbers of upvoted threads - many of us want Solo. P.S. Please do not bring queue timers as an argument. More than 60 million people play this game, and a game requires 10. And before saying anything else - 60 Fcking Million people. I have read stuff about DoTa having about 12 million. It is (at least) 5 times, so LoL has the more than enough player-base for Solo and Dynamic to coexists. P.S. And do not, and i mean it, do nor dare to say > DQ needs solo players, and if there were a solo queue queue none would be enter in dynamic as a solo. Because that translate as "Yes, solo players prefer solo, but what about - be good slaves and fill the gaps instead, so premade groups can have fun"

If solo queue became popular enough then it would dramatically hurt queue times in dynamic queue.

I already said - for a game with so many players queue timers should never be a problem. They are not a problem in DoTa, and I believe nowhere else. Even with 2 queue there will be more than enough players for both

And you thinking that a high number of raw players has any bearing on matchmaking times past a certain threshold shows you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how queues and matchmaking work. It doesn't matter if there are 3 million or 300 billion players, if the ratio of players in demand vs. players in supply is off then queues will still be just as long on average.

DotA does not have a dynamic queue, so you can't queue up in that game with certain numbers of friends which means that certain groups of people simply cannot play together. Some players being completely unable to play in order to provide slightly less inconvenience to others is not an ideal solution. I'm also pretty sure DotA still supplements some teams composed of duos and/or trios with solo players, meaning it creates the same issues that players complain about in LoL's dynamic queue.

Indeed, but I feel it is not correct. I've seen premade groups of 4, where one is an absolute potato, while the 3 others are pretty high skilled players. Needless to say, that the potato guy brings down the group MMR, so the decent guys end up facing much less experienced players. And you may guess how fun, interesting and competitive game it ends up being. So maybe

The situation you described sounds incredibly familiar to plenty of the solo queue games I've played. Players' performances vary wildly from game to game and it's always important to identify which player on the enemy team is the most vulnerable.

No, it isn't. Elo boosting is someone raising someone else's rank as a service. The situation you described is a group of friends playing a game together and covering for the weaknesses of their group.

There are other differences. Mainly that the booster would have to tank their own MMR intentionally in order to get within the MMR margin that would let them play with the boostee so they can increase their odds of victory. If the booster simply lets their MMR reach an appropriate level for their skill, then matchmaking will increase the average player skill of the enemy to the point where his chance of victory still equates to 50%.

Unless it's bronze 5 then they could just make a new account and play on that. Unranked accounts start out somewhere around silver. If they play support for 10 placement games they won't be above gold and any legit solo plat+ player should be able to carry at least 1 or 2 high bronze/silver players up to at least gold 5 queing w/ them.

Honestly it'd be pretty doable as a stream. You'd stream smurf games and make money on the stream, then boost 4 players to gold or plat (assuming that if you're doing it as a job then you're actually good at it and diamond 1+ so they could hit high gold low plat w/ 4 scrubs on voice coms telling scrubs what to do). The players don't pay you for boost (you officially say you won't do it but everyone knows you're a booster so you let other accounts advertise for you and just deny it so riot doesn't ban) but pay you for coaching/to play w/ their favorite streamer/whatever, and riot won't ban anything bc everyone is playing on their own accounts. Yeah it's more work than using bot leveled accounts to boost, but to sell boosts that are 100% okay in riots current system and can't get the boosted account banned or lose their rewards is a pretty big selling point.

I don't care how interesting you are, bot games on stream would not be entertaining.

Yes it creates the same issues but nowhere near on the same scale. Groups of 2s, 3s, and 5s, can play together. The majority of groups AND solo queuers can be completely happy with this arrangement. Riot's (skewed) survey said that 50% favored dynamic queue, 25% were indifferent, and 25% were against. Even IF you can figure what percentage of the 50% favored was for 4-man groups, I highly doubt it will comprise the majority of the 50% of those who were in favor of dynamic queue.

An irrelevant point. Queues of 2's and 3's can fill in for each other and obviously are pro dynamic queue. Queues of 5 do not need another to fill in. A queue of 4 however requires a solo queuer to fill the 5th spot. If a solo player voluntarily joins dynamic queue knowing he'll be filling in the 5th spot then no problem, that was his/her choice. IF the solo player has no choice, which is the current situation, then there IS a problem. 4's cause most of the problems of dynamic queue. By removing 4's and by making it that 2's and 3's only queue together like the veteran gaming company of DoTA has done, they can keep dynamic queue and the majority of the player base happy. Right now, while still the majority the 50% are supposedly happy, 25% of the player base is not happy.

DotA has to supplement with solos to accomplish this and so would LoL. The ratio of 2's to 3's will not be perfect (3's will be much less common than 2's) and we'll end up with the same problem that role selector has where queuing for a popular role has much longer queue times.

I have confirmed that Dota 2 uses solo players to round out teams. The only difference between Dota 2's ranked queue and LoL's dynamic queue is that they don't allow 4-man teams.

If the matchmaking queue were to only match a duo with a trio and vice versa, trios would have instant queue times and duos would undoubtedly have incredibly long queue times because team sizes get exponentially less common as their size increases with the exception of 5 mans. If duos were twice as popular as trios (a modest estimate) then they would have to wait a full game length on average to get in to a game, so about 35 minutes.

I play Dota and I can confirm that Dota definitely uses solo players to round out teams. It tells you after the game who is queued together, and it's pretty common to go up against 2-4 man parties when I'm playing alone. The only thing that's uncommon to see as a solo player is 5-man groups, just because they get matched against other 5-mans most often, but 2-4s can get thrown against solo players on a whim.

Even when I play with 2 of my friends, getting matched up with a duo is not normal. Matchmaking will usually throw us two randoms. It's kind of annoying when I'm on the other side of it, but you learn to live with it.

That's not trying to support the points of the guy you're arguing with. I'm just telling you my experience of how Dota works and you can make whatever you want of that.

I played Dota for over 2k hours before coming to league full-time, and what you're saying isnt true at all.

The rules for the "ranked" queue were always and are always as follows:

  1. There are no 4-man premades, they are fully disabled because of the forced position of a single player imposed to them, and also because report-stacking became a thing shortly after "ranked queue" was released.
  2. 3 mans almost NEVER touch single queue players, I've only seen 3-man queues with solo players once in my time in Dota.
  3. 2 man premades are THE MOST you will see on either side when playing solo, 5-man teams against duo's and single's are almost non-existant. Just like point 2, I've only seen it happen once in my time.

The ONLY downside are the queue times, but they've become SIGNIFICANTLY better since the start of the game (1:20 instead of 5:45 to find a match.)

Point is, solo's almost never play with premades in dota, so why do people in league have to deal with the pain and suffering of no solo queue? There's no voice chat in league which further makes a gap between those in premades and those in solo, it's decimating solo players to no end.

ALMOST never means it DOES touch single queue players. Touching single queue players means that you DO see trios when you're playing solo on occasion, so you are admitting that your third point is false. But if this is the case why are queue times in the higher tiers so long? If it's trying to find solo players with solo players and so many pros would love to play solo surely the queues shouldn't be as abysmal they are now, right?

me thinks they pair with groups first.

The game was meant to be played in a team of 4 with 1 randomized filler?

I understand not liking support and wanting the role removed, but come on. You can't claim supports may as well be randomized bots or whatever it is you're trying to say here.

Or perhaps you mean it's meant to be played with a random duo and a random trio who then try to bridge their teams to gain victory.

Or more sensibly, you mean the game was meant to be played with a team of 5?

Assuming you have some sense, of course that's what you meant.

So your stance is that the game is meant to be played as a group of 5 and it's fine to alienate a huge portion of the community who can't or don't want to form a full team to play?

It is better to support people closer to playing a team game as a full team than to prevent them from playing at all. If solo players are slightly inconvenienced (very slightly, the odds of being matched with a 4 man is very low) then that seems fair as long as EVERYONE still gets a chance to play.

DefNotABot10 votes

You say that as if there was a portion of the community in the old system that was somehow not able to play ranked. But to address your main point, solo players are not slightly inconvenienced. They are VERY inconvenienced. They have no idea if their team is premade, therefore no idea if they should expect the enemy team to be premade. If there is a premade, they're already omitted from whatever voice communication device, and premades are less likely to aide or trust randoms when they can pool resources on teammates they know and trust. Early game turret dives, which are incredibly risky and difficult to pull off, are much easier to do in a voice communicating team since you can relay information faster and with more complexity than simple pings. And I just had a lovely game of support where the entire enemy team were 5 man roaming bot using obvious communication and I'm fairly certain the premades on my team were not using a voice communication system.

You say that as if there was a portion of the community in the old system that was somehow not able to play ranked.

There were. It is not easy to come up with EXACTLY 5 people to play ranked with regularly. Playing with 1-4 friends depending on who happens to be available dramatically opens up the ability to play a 5v5 objective-oriented, teamwork-focused strategy game with people that you know how to play around.

You are exaggerating how VERY inconvenienced solo queue players are. They do not often have to deal with large sized premades and the ability of your premade vs. their premade does not have much more of an effect on the outcome of a game compared to how the quality of your solo teammates vs. their solo teammates has in previous seasons.

"Very large sized" seems to be a key point of your argument. A premade of ANY size will heavily skew things in favor of their team because there is no mmr penalty given to premades. That means teams with premades of 2's and 3's will have the advantage and there are no figures available for teams of solo going against teams with premades.

ONE IN FIVE HUNDRED games matches solos against 4 or 5 mans.

I'd imagine the number for 3's and 2's to be somewhat similar as there are far more duos and trios to work with in matchmaking.

Karma Deified2 votes

Your arguments are completely irrelevant.

2/3/5 man queue is fine.

What we're discussing is solo queue which would kill 4 mans. How often a solo gets paired with a 4 man is irrelevant because any time there's a 4 man premade, there has to be a solo.

For some reason, you want solo players to not be able to opt out of the inconvenience. That is insane.

You want your fun to exist at the expense of other players. Not even the usual usage of "expense" either. You are literally arguing for people to directly support your enjoyment.

And you may say we're doing the same by not wanting 4 mans to be possible, but let's flip your numbers on you.

How often are we filling in so you can play? Not very, according to you.

How often does a 4 man inconvenience a solo player? Every single time they queue up.

But that's not all, Riot already said, Dynamic rewards would be better. And we don't even have to go as extreme as you, and have no option for queuing as 4.

We just want a solo option, then let whatever comes as a result happen. There will still be some people to enable your 4 mans when they want their season rewards.

In all honesty, if you can't understand that without countless people explaining, I'll assume you only have 3 friends or you just aren't mentally capable of taking part in this discussion.

A. I got regularly matched with premades of 3 and 4, both with and against, whenever i queued for DQ as solo. It's around 75% of the games..and those only the game i spotted myself, cause riot doesnt give us premade data.

B. Saying that "this is the way the game is meant to be played" is the biggest BS rhetoric. If You part of a club with 50 players and you play each game with other in a premade, how different is it from soloq besides you having access to voice and solo q players dont?

I don't care. Data is data, the sample size gave a dramatically lower value than you claimed and it is incredibly unlikely that your ratio of games with solos and duos vs. premades of 3 or 4 is much different outside of that sample or on a different account.

B. You can't know this because we don't have premade data. So don't lie.

eune.op.gg You go through each game, click on each team mate, and see if they have played with each other often. If no one else on your team appears in their 'recently played with' list then they are not in a group with anyone. Possible sources of error: players randomly being matchmade with each other multiple times increasing the number of perceived premades, which would mean it's possible the number of affirmatives in this sample could drop from 1 to 0; players grouping who have never played with each other outside of this one game, which seems to me like they would functionally be the same as a group of solos and thus not anything you are complaining about.

C. Even if it were true, playing solo and playing as a group is fundamentally different and should have a separate rank.

League of Legends is a 5v5 objective-oriented, teamwork-focused strategy game, and it has been since the start. Get over it.

Playing with people you know and play well with is the only way to achieve a higher success rate, thus to encourage a more competitive environment, grouping with people you know and play with should be encouraged.

That is not the only way. Improving your gameplay is another way. If you have to rely on being in a group to win, your individual skill may not be very good to begin with. There are many times where matchmaking is imbalanced and teams with a premade go against team without a premade.

If you only queue solo, your individual skill will still determine your rank in the long run. Any other factors will even out over a large number of games, just like previous seasons.

This may also not be true, there are many ways to exploit dynamic queue. Matchmaking is far from perfect and solo queue players are thrown in to make the dynamic queue players queues faster. Since queue times can be quite long sometimes, a greater mmr disparity is allowed. As solo queue player is oftentimes used to fill gaps in games where a great mmr disparity exists, a solo queuer may constantly be subjected to playing unfair games. Now while this may not always be the case, I'm sure it happens very commonly.

But he raises a valid point, by adding a solo que, one will always be more popular than the other. If solo que becomes more popular, it will alienate those people who want to be in groups with friends. If dynamic stays more popular, than solo que won't be as good. By keeping it as just dynamic, you can still que up as solo, and still be placed against and with other solo's most of the time.

Then it's more popular, and SHOULD be more dominant.

it will alienate those people who want to be in groups with friends.

Just because SR was more popular than ARAM/Dominion/ TT doesn't mean they were being alienated. Isn't forcing dynamic queue and having extreme favoritism for premades alienating solo queue players then?

It won't.

It doesn't, you basically end up with a premade every game. Almost never, is there a game with 5 solo queue players. You end up with 2 man premade on your team vs their 3 man, or, you have a a solo queue team, and they have a 3 man. Those happen a lot. For every 4man queue, there is a solo queuer who is the 5th person, who has to take all the blame, toxicity, and bullying that the premade makes them put up with. And there are quite a number of 4manpremades. And there are still solo teams, or teams with only 2 man premades who go against 4-5man premades. Sure, that's "Rare"(insert whatever BS Lyte statistic you want), but it shouldn't be happening at all. It's like toxicity; It's "Rare" (insert whatever BS Lyte statistic you want), but it shouldn't be happening, and both should be stopped immediately, as they both provide a "negative gameplay experience"
