Why does Blitzcrank scale 100% with AP?

His 'q' and his ult. And the base damage isn't exactly low either. A champion with one of the best initiating tools in the game shouldn't scale that well.

Because riot loves the fact that literally only 3 supports are ever played. Blitzcrank , leona, and thresh. Then janna and braum are chosen because they counter them.

Blitz, Thresh, and Leona are the only supports played?

Whelp, guess it's time to nerf Sona.

Because of cooldowns and overall abilities to utilize that AP. Look at Nunu. He has excellent AP ratios, but no one plays him as a caster. Why? Because of cooldowns and the fact that he has an attack speed steroid as one of his abilities.

Casters need relatively short cooldowns, or abilities to chain together. Blitz doesn't really have that. He just fires off, then sits around for a while.

Because blitzcrank wasn't made to be a support

Blitz is actually an AP bruiser, didn't you know?

Because Blitz's ENTIRE powerbudget is in his Q. For him, missing a Q is like missing an ultimate to other champs. So while landing it feels good, missing it is and feels incredibly punishing.

No reason to complain about Blitz now, haha.

Blitz's entire kit revolves around landing his Q. If he misses it, you have a long period of time(especially early game) in which you can attack him.

Blitz's Q is more of a pick tool than an initiate tool. If your ADC is getting hooked often while everyone is grouped as 5, they just need better positioning. Blitz's ratios are very high but he lacks what most AP mages have.

  • Ranged, safe, low cooldown peel
  • Peel
  • Poke

just to name a few. A Blitzcrank shouldn't even be building much AP but if he is, these are some of the things he's missing out on.

Blitzcrank's grab is very strong as an ability. His E is good followup to his Q, and his ultimate and W have very high base values, etc., but he also lacks what other supports can bring. Supports like Janna can provide huge peel for her ADCs, supports like Soraka can heal their teammates by a ton, support tanks like Alistar and Braum can actually engage, peel for their carries, and become huge slabs of meat with their insane damage reduction.

There are different attributes to different champions. Blitzcrank's Q is such a good support ability that the rest of his abilities don't really fit into the support role. It's fine that his AP ratios are high and such, because he won't even be able to take advantage of them because of the way his kit works.

AP Blitzcrank QQ. I thought I'd never see this day.

Regardless of what he was designed for, he's being played bot. Riot needs to start balancing him for bot lane.
