I have a solution to AFKs

I am sure that anyone that has played Call of Duty is very acquainted with the matchmaking system. Say you have a 6v6, and a few people leave making it a 4v3, eventually, more people will connect to the game and the game will go back to 6v6, taking the other peoples place. Why can't we have the same kind of thing for League? How about if when one person leaves or AFKs and does not come back for 5 minutes, there is an option in the matchmaking que that you can check that allows you to take someone elses place where they left off in the game. Say its a 5v5 out of the gate, 3 minutes in someone leaves and one of the teams are now handicapped, wouldn't it be nice if someone could connect in and take there place? Using that champion, the same masteries and runes that the other person connected with. If the game is won with the AFK, the person gets bonus LP for helping the team out, if you lose while playing in the AFKs spot, then you don't lose as much LP for trying to help a struggling team. Any thoughts? Would really like a red to comment on this.

Who would be willing to do that, it's pretty much guaranteeing that you will join a losing game and lose LP

That is also True in Call of Duty. Which makes me wonder if OP has played it, or at the very least thought this though.

Also consider that Call of Duty works because each player has his or her own class loadout that has no bearing on the game itself. But for each game of League, the champs are fixed, level thoughout the game, and have different loadout that are pretty much fixed thoughout the game. And you can't change that without affecting the dynamic of the game. It basically wouldn't work.

The problem is that with over 125 champions in the game and a near infinite combination of runes and masteries a lot of people might not want to join the game even if they get bonus LP. What if the guy has messed up runes and masteries? What if he bought 6 Tears before he disconnected? What if you don't even own the Runes he's running?

I think your idea is a really good one I just don't know if you should be locked into the same runes/masteries or even the same champion. Maybe if the person DC's you can have a new person join with a new champion with whatever runes/masteries they want but they start off with slightly less gold than the average person on their team and start off as the same level as the lowest person on their team. Obviously it would need to be tweaked so it couldn't be abused.

well. you level up in the current match. so. how would that work?

Let's say a normal game you get 5LP for a win -5 for a loss

As an afk joiner you get 8 LP for a win -2 for a loss

It's harder to win, but has a higher reward and less penalty

With the new system letting you chose your role you get to get your role regardless

I would however have it so when you connect as an afk filler all items are sold for full value to the store, so you start with no items but I nice chunk of gold to chose your build to be more optimal for the current situation (example start with a static shiv if losing to farm and wave clear to get caught up

Also it would still keep the tune/mastery of the player but you get to chose your items as you enter

The leaver would obviously take a loss of LP as if lost, regardless of if that match ends with a victory because he left

The core reason behind most people AFKing is a bad connection. I believe more effort should be put out on the part of Riot to publicize the importance of a hardwired connection versus playing on a crappy 2.4ghz WiFi band on a crappy router on a crappy ISP, and that players who repeatedly drop packets or shoot above 300ms consistently during a game be grouped together so long as the networking issues persist.

On another note, the host relocation was one of the greatest things to happen to the NA server and only goes to show how profound an effect Quality-Of-Life networking stuff has on the game in comparison to just constantly shelling out new content that 75% of the player base wasn't even asking for.

That's just my opinion, though.I don't think OP's idea is the worst, but it does pose potential issues and probably wouldn't be used a whole lot.

Well yes, there are obvious things that bring up problems with this type of solution, but would you rather have an AFK, or a person to help win the game with a couple messed up masteries? And most of the time, masteries and runes are not messed up that bad, and usually people don't buy 6 tears before leaving the game haha.
