Why is last hitting so god damn hard?

Hallbuster··1 votes·3,747 views

I've played LoL for months and still missing a good portion of my CS like a drunk guy throwing hoops. It doesn't whether I'm ADC, Tank, Support (jk), Assassin, or any other role. Teemo and Annie are the only champions I can hit consistently/get a good Cs score with.

Must be something you're not doing correctly, since it sounds personal.

I mean, there should be a lot for you to learn, and maybe even bad habits to correct.

Just looking at the facts here, but you are.. 300 games deep into Bronze 5.

Quality and Quantity both should be equal, where quality is efficient and consistent growth in game knowledge, and quantity is equal to experience / games played.

300 games, 46% win rate, lowest rank possible in the game.. It's just super suspect of 100% quantity, no quality.

I think if anyone is willing to free coach you, it might do a lot more good than harm at this point.

But coaching is a 2 way thing.. You can shove a bunch of kids into a classroom, but it doesn't mean they will all end up understanding the subject completely at the end of everything. Only those who took advantage of the situation given will reap its benefits. You can't just throw down 500$ for a Challenger coach and expect to jump 2 Tiers without seriously taking heed to the information he's feeding you.

Coaching is good if you can't figure out what is wrong with your play.

Coaching is not good for 100% changing the way you play, in the sense that.. even with the necessary information, its up to you to make it second nature that you make the right decision in place of your previous wrongs.

You can know how to make a million dollars within a year. But if you're not mentally strong enough or capable to jump through the hoops to make it happen, then it is not yet reality.

I know your question was about last hitting. But I suspect there's a bigger issue you will run into even after slightly correcting your CS.

It should at least be addressed if you're going to invest so much time into ranked. Unless you don't give a shit, then that's your call.

Go into a practice game (or training mode) with no runes or masteries, and just last hit. Try to do it with only autos. Do it for 10 minutes and try to get as much cs as possible, then start over and do it again, trying to beat your last score. Do it until you can consistently get atleast 70-80 in 10 minutes. Perfect cs at 10 minutes is 107, get as close to that as possible as consistently as possible.

Ravenhale1 votes

I've never quite understood the reason to do this. There's no scenario where you will be playing with no runes/masteries/items so the damage output will not be the same.

Dynikus5 votes

That's the whole point. If you can do it perfectly while doing less damage, it'll be that much easier to do when you're doing more damage. If you can only just barely CS well with full runes/masteries/items, then you'll probably miss some you could otherwise get due to also having to play against the enemy laner and having to deal with their harass. You want CSing to be as second nature as possible.

Thats like saying "You should ride your bike to work cuz its harder, then when you get in your car to go to work it'll feel much easier.." like no shit sherlock..

Dynikus3 votes

That's a terrible comparison. The two have literally nothing to do with each other. CSing without runes and masteries is like running with leg weights. It'll be more difficult, but give better results. Practice with harder conditions so doing something in normal conditions seems easy.

Dreadlocks1 votes

It has the same goal, get from point A to point B.. You arn't doing yourself any favors by practicing without runes/masteries.. Now i'm no challenger, but ive been playing dota/league about 5 years now and played sc1 before that.. I never did such a stupid exercise to better my CS.

Chances are the reason this guy can't CS is because either A: he doesn't watch the caster minions auto attacking. or B: he feels at risk to CS because he doesn't know the strengths/spells of his opponents well enough.

you also main jungle and support. In the only games I see where you played laners, your cs wasn't great. It's a pretty simple exercise, and there's no way it could make your cs worse.

Dreadlocks1 votes

I havn't had to lane much this season cause i get jungle almost every game.. I don't even know where you are finding games that i played in lane tbh.. When i did, i often played Graves top, and was ahead in CS in almost all of those games. So i'm calling bullshit on that statement. I know how to CS muh dude.

Dynikus2 votes

I was looking at your twisted fate games. You had a game with 91 cs in 30 minutes, 106 cs in 30, 93 in 20, 131 in 30, scores like that. I'm not trying to call you out or say that you can't CS. It's just an exercise that can't hurt that a lot of coaches actually have players do.

Yeah i fuckin blow with TF i'm not gana try to deny that.

You could have talked about how trees grow moss only on the shady side of their trunks and that might have possibly been a better analogy than what you used.

Yeah, riding your bike totally applies to driving your car... If you're in an action flick and are driving on the sidewalks.

TBH, I wish minions had numbers instead of green bars since the green bar is representative of % health. I know my last hitting would drastically improve if I saw numbers, since I know how much damage I deal.

Häßlich1 votes

You can select a minion to see it's numerical health, and that's not a bad way to get a feel for it, but having numbers over all the health bars would create too much UI clutter during actual games.

Ravenhale1 votes

Well if last hitting with the least amount of damage is the goal, then I believe Soraka is the champion to run with. I believe all the champions with lower base AD stats have passives justifying their low stats (Fortune's Love Tap dealing extra damage switching targets, Lulu's Pix dealing extra damage, Orianna's Clockwork, etc.)

Dreadlocks1 votes

The guy can't even last hit with runes and masteries, why would you advise him to practice without them?

I can last hit pretty decently without intervention, but when you add enemy harass, it's a different ballgame.

Dynikus2 votes

Then after 10 minutes against no one, try 10 minutes against beginner bots. Beginner bots are overly aggressive and pretty much try to harass any time they see you rather than focus on farming.

MissingKayo2 votes

If you stopped shitposting so much, you'd have more time to practice everything you constantly made threads about.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

My CS is usually pretty shit too. It got a bit better when I realized that I'm still allowed to last hit mid game, rather than brainlessly pushing and clearing waves.

That being said, practicing in customs helped me a lot with champions I wasn't use to CSing with.

Dreadlocks1 votes

Practice on a melee champion... Id say.. Jax since he has 1 of the highest base AD's in the game. For runes, run AD reds, and Attack Speed quints. Take Fury in your Ferocity tree (tier 1) and Savagery in Cunning (tier 1) And then also take 5points in Natural Talent, Ferocity tree (tier 3) Start a custom with a Longsword. With this set up.. you should be able to last hit much better than almost any other champion...

I mean, another easy champion to last hit with is Zed because of his passive.. but it wont really help you when you decide to play other champions..

i suggest taking at least 4-5% attack speed on all your champions.. even if its just Fury (tier 1) mastery.. But start with this ^ first.

Dynikus1 votes

So your advice is to take the easiest champions to CS with and practice with runes that make it as easy as possible? What are you going to learn from that? When you get into an actual game, it's going to be completely different and much harder to cs than what you're used to.

Dreadlocks1 votes

Uhm Because he cant even CS at all? Perhaps he should start with STEP 1, learning how to CS. then make it harder the better he gets at it instead of making it hard from the start when he already sucks.

Dynikus1 votes

Why are we pretending he's a vegetable that can't CS at all? looking at his games, he averages 5-7 cs/m.

I'm looking at his recent match history rather than what he's saying in this thread. Ignoring his annie games, I see 5.5 cs/m with ahri, 5 with ashe, 5 with nasus, 7.2 with nasus, 6 with nasus. 6.7 with ashe... Regardless of the champion he's playing, his CS isn't really that bad, especially for his rank.

Dreadlocks1 votes

Then just tell him that and /thread.

Ravenhale1 votes

Eh, that can be deceptive. I probably average 5 cs/m if the game lasts long enough.

Häßlich1 votes

Agree with, Dynikus. Pick the champion you want to learn and use the runes/masteries you plan to carry into a match when you practice.

Having higher ping makes it harder. There's so many times where I can't react as fast as I want due to higher ping. I watch LCS and their games with 0 ping look like they are moving twice as fast.

Häßlich1 votes

Why don't we do a custom game and I can observe you while you try to last hit? It would be easier to see if you're doing something wrong, or if you're just having trouble with the pressure of lane opponents.

Thuban1 votes

Good question. I've lost the ability to cs altogether, and can't even learn it again.

Requiemsfire1 votes

It's a skill picked up through a lot of practice. I used to barely touch 100 cs per game when I started and now I can generally pick up at least 200 cs and occasionally even 300 cs if I kept going. I'm sure I can get more, I'm not doing it perfectly but I can say I've improved.

Do you have any AD in your rune pages?
