How can I improve my support play?

LegitBacon66··2 votes·893 views

I have recently decided to take on the support role as it seems much more engaging and entertaining. I have played several games recently and I would like some feedback from current support mains. I used to play support off and on when I was auto-filled, so I know the basics and general idea around the support role. I would love some general criticism and feedback from anyone who knows stuff about the support role.

Champions I know how to play: (Mastery 4+) [I don't mind increasing my champion pool]

Thresh Bard Blitzcrank Alistar

Stuff I would love to know:

Builds - There is so many items I honestly don't know whats the best to use at what time Runes - These are new, but anything would help Warding Advice When to roam as a support

Thank you guys in advance!

usually I like to roam mid if I'm say, 60%+ hp and my adc has backed with our wave shoved in to the enemy turret if I know I'm not gonna get dieded, I like to place wards by the enemy wolves if I'm on blue team to check for jungle transitions

another tip though, have you ever noticed your ADC blaming you for going in when they weren't ready? play a couple of popular meta ADC's (your most likely going to encounter these) to learn the basis of their kits, and give you a better understanding as to why they weren't ready. also SPAM PING WHEN YOU WANNA GO FOR THAT SWEET ALL IN

It helps a ton to play ADC to know what it's like, what they can do, what to expect form randoms, etc

Warding is dependent on matchups, vs some junglers you want to deep inside their jungle instead of the river (Zac, Nocturne come to mind, Eve after lvl 6)

Builds you can go look at websites for

Roaming is tricky, best times to roam are when your ADC goes back, or when the enemy lane goes back, or after you've gone back to base. The champions you play are some of the best to roam mid with, so you should do it if it's a killable lane. Buying mobos after your first back and running mid seems to work often from what i've seen

don't play too aggressively, especially when you start playing against better players you will be punished if you aggress too hard. it is often better to wait for the enemy players to make mistakes and capitalize on it, than to make them yourself

Don't play with your eyes closed and use at least one hand, this should be enough to get you to diamond 5

Also, GET THE DAMN SIGHTSTONE! You have no idea how many times I have won just because the enemy support did not get a sight stone. Vision wins.

Try to keep 3 wards up at all times, learn the best places for control wards, and dont forget to replace your ward trinket with the sweeper once you hit level 9.

I am a Diamond support main if you want any advice or anything, I am down to help.

Just note I don't play traditional supports unless I think my ADC is good enough to carry.

My main supports for solo que and low elo are: Brand Velkoz Veigar Fiddlesticks MissFortune

However I do play traditional supports as well: Rakan Bard Lulu Soraka Bard is one of the few traditional supports I will take into low elo games because he can carry harder than the rest if you are good at him.
