want to know the reason why this lane is broken? because every one of these champions builds tanky but gets to still do absurd damage with it. they have SUCCESSFULLY cancelled out every single top laner other than themselves.

Try taking Riven into the jungle. I got beat by a good Riven jungle recently.
Or try her mid, as a pocket counter to mid Assassins like Talon and Zed and Yasuo.

Of course you still need to dodge (riven is very good at juking), but if you time your spell right, you will lock him down completely. Your E is pretty good against Zed, I can't remember exactly how much CDR, but you can E when he go in and it would be off cool down for you to shield again for the time bomb damage. Why are you complaining about Riven anyway? She was the bane of top lane. Just because the meta doesn't favor her, you immediately want people to nerf other champs to the ground. This is exactly what people feels like when Riven dominate top, but they all hate 1 champion, not like you naming half of the top lane roaster. Why don't you just wait, not a long time ago, people use to trash talk about Lux suck and being a useless pick... look at her now. Morgana was made fun of in season 3 for not being able to fill either support or mid... look at her now. Shyvana use to be one of the worst pick for jungle, due to no CC pre 6, and even then she got several moment last year when she was FOTM. If you truly love a champion, then you can wait. If you can't wait, it mean you do not like the champion design and would rather play something that can win the game. If you want to be one of them, then go ahead, play Fiora

Yeah, these champions are tanky, because they build tank items, and yeah relative to a squishy they do a lot of damage. But by no means are top laners op. Top lane champions are meant to be useful mid-late game because early game they are in their own little world, where they aren't going to interact with their team until later in the game. Another thing to be added is how they either serve as peel, or champions that are countered by peel. For example Trundle is susceptible to cc, so he can't just dive any carry. Hope you see this in a different way.

Morde counters Gnar? I mean, he doesn't die to him, but he certainly doesn't have any kill pressure. And Gnar is much more useful in teamfights than Morde.

While Mordekaiser wouldn't be able to Q him, he could continue chunking him down with Es while Gnar is squishy and use his shield to absorb the damage.
If Gnar ever tried to all-in him in mega-form, Mordekaiser's passive and ultimate should let him survive through Gnar's damage with little effort.
Late-game, Mordekaiser can grab a second ADC (or autoattacking fighter) for his team to help melt down Gnar or just help burst him down (since Gnar needs to jump into the enemy team to get his CC off).

Besides, bruisers and tanks have traditionally dominated the top-lane anyways.

I guess 2 of my 4 make the list... but Gnar, really? He's quite weak right now I don't like playing him at all... Meanwhile I feel like both Volibear and J4 are beasts.
I do agree with the sentiment that top lane is really wonky right now though...

He's tough to balance, I agree. His kit could be strong, I agree. So he's numerically weak to keep him from dominating. That's why it was such a small buff.
His win rate is still quite low.

But my point is still valid...you stating Top lane is broken due to them....hello, the can be shutdown quite easily.
I've even used J4 against some of them and won...took some work in the process but came out with a win in the lane. Heck, I've killed them with Jayce and Shyv....Gnar was a piece of cake with Jayce.
