The most frustrating thing about playing rakan

Moonfall Saber··5 votes·1,421 views

Is that my allied don't even know I can dash to them. As a support champion who has to rely on your allies for sick engages, rakan is really gated NY your elo. Nobody below diamond knows how to play with Rakan which is why you never see him in games. I pick rakan as my go to support pick but it is super frustrating because my allies have no idea what he even does. I recently pkayed with a Tristana who would jump away from me every single time that I would engage. You litteraly can not pick rakan in low elo.

I feel like thresh and rakan are consistently disappointed by the lack of knowledge about what they do and how they work as champions

"OMG THRESH"

"what?"

"why didn't you save me?"

"I tried to. Why didn't you click the lantern?"

Jesus. I've had ADCs get mad at me for last hitting minions with a charged Flay to proc Relic Shield.

To be fair, a lot of Thresh's put the lantern on/around a bunch enemy targets, making it waaay too difficult to click because the game prioritizes attacking. A good Thresh will put the lantern close enough to you, but not too close to enemies, so that you can instantly click it without having to find the 2x2 pixel area that actually activates it.

I always try to put it to the side of an enemy. If you put it on an enemy, it'll be impossible to click without faffing around.

Tbh the lantern should be able to be pinged.

I read this like, 'wait, I don't have that probl-' and then realised I play Rakan very conditionally: I have a duo, I have a Xayah (added range), I have a Yasuo (the dash ranges line up nicely after the wombo-engage). So I have to admit I see where you're coming from entirely.

And tbh I have this problem with Thresh too. Low elo treats him as an engage bot, full tank, who only has a Q in laning phase.

And the better you get at them, the more your wings are clipped. It's miserable, man.

Oh hey a Moonfall thread that I actually agree with.

Anywho, yeah it gets a bit annoyinng being a Rakan player down here in the slums of Silver.

I know ... it's really hard to play Rakan without Xayah around

I've come to terms with the fact that if I play Rakan without a Xayah I'm either suicide-engaging or getting out with so little HP that if I were to stay with the team and shield people I'll die as an unintended target of a random AoE.

I really think it's a shame that Rakan needs Xayah's W if he wants to have any reason to stay in and fight in the early game as well as her presence in the late-game to pull off his combo properly. Meanwhile she doesn't share any of the issues he has without him, as she still has a fair amount of damage and burst early and strong self-peel later on to survive without him (Heck, he's not even the best at keeping her alive anyway).

I feel like they need to give Rakan one guaranteed long dash, either the first or second (though, in the perfect world letting him choose would be best), that way even without her, he can still choose between a long-range engage or a safe escape, while still keeping his "Go to town on them" nature when she's there. Reworking the whole thing and giving him something not as punishing to begin with would also be fine by me.
