I dont want to see any more new champions for a long time

DonnieDarkin··11 votes·824 views

There are plenty of champions and plenty of variety. I am totally okay with no new champions for like...at least 12 months.

Riot really should be focusing on increasing the viablity and popularity of its dozens of champions that are forgotten.

And really, what is there more to do? The 2 new bird champions....nothing is really that different on them. Its just more of the same.

You do realize right that Riot has separate teams pertaining to the game? There's a balance team, champion art team, champion creation, sound and music i'm...it's not like RIot the company pours all their work into making new champs every month.

Look man, I'm not fucking retarded.

You do realize that the funding for each of those comes from a lump sum of money that they can split differently? You do realize a lot of Rioters quit Riot?

yeah and sometimes they are CLEARLY not talking to each other... riot needs a BIGGER balance team... they have what 140 champions now? even they had TEN people on the balance team each people would need to know the matchups for FOURTEEN different champs. and that not even considering other people should know that champ as well and NONE of the team's champ overlaps.

the fact is they are only focusing on certain things when other things need to be ardressed.

for example... Azir has needed a re-work and has been at 43% winrate for HOW LONG? Nidalee was completly gutted with the removal of strength of the ages in the patch right after riot did a "nerf" to her that practaulyl affected nothing. ANY person who actually PLAYS the champ frequently (like myself) could have and DID point out the removal of strength of ages would KILL nidalee what?? FIVE patches before it went live. and yet they never ONCE bothered to even CHECK to see if that would happen in ONE test?

they NEED a bigger balance team with experience in the champion they are balancing or at at LEAST consult EXPERTS of that said champion

i mean sure if they were only letting a few champsion be slightly un viable it would be ok... but when u have champs that are sub 45% win rate and have been for over 6 months and over for nearly TWO YEARS. and they "cant figure out of to fix them" it means thier balance team has issues.. i can think of at least TEN different ways to make Nidalee viable, with just number changes.. ALL of which i KNOW would work.. and yet riot cant think of or even test ONE change?

i mean i love riot games... and this year they have made some HUGE improvement i have been waiting for for a VERY long time, YEARS in fact.

but the fact is if they keep releasing new champions it becomes harder and harder to make sure the champsions people already know and love are viable. so if THEY arn't going to play the champsion (becuase it would be stupid to hire a main of each champion to ask for help.. they can at LEAST use the data people who MAIN the champ are willing to give for FREE.

Boy do I feel silly. I used to make this argument years ago, but only now do I realize I was undercutting myself

No one cares what you are ok with.

That what reworks and the frequent balance changes are for. Though sometimes they do mess up. Canceling new champions wouldn't change anything .

And that's a bad thing?

Yes its a bad thing. If its not adding fresh mechanics or unique gameplay, there is literally no point.

Nah I'd much rather they go back to releasing 1 champion every week or every other week.

They promised they'd rebalance the game instead of releasing more champions and look what the got us? Hextech crafting, tons of skins, some shitty gamemodes, removal of dominion, ward skins nobody uses, and reworks everybody who played the pre-rework champion hates. Riot doesn't give a fuck about customer loyalty.

The game would be unstainable eventually are you fucking kidding me?

No I'm not fucking kidding you. At that point we would eventually remove champions that were basically unused or put them on the chopping block to make new champions out of them.

The game would be perfectly fine with 300 or 500 champions.

I'd rather go back to Season 4 where we got like 4 champs over the year.

Fix the old champs that need help, fix some other in game things and next year we can go back to new champs. Old Champ reworks feel like new champs anyway.

Nah man.

Which reworks or fixes are you talking about? What did they actually do? No fucking thing.

Back with the machine gun volley of champions.

MrHaZeYo1 votes

I'm not saying they fixed anyone in Season 4, although that was a big year in terms of Support Items and Jungle Items. (Maybe it 5).

I'm saying if they calmed down now though, on the new champs and just concentrated on making the old champs more Viable and Healthy for the game, we'd all be better off.

And I'm saying they slowed down since season early season 3, giving them plenty of time to rework stuff. Considering the time given, they've done nothing.

do you have any idea how little time they already can spend on individual champions because of the sheer amount of them? if youre lucky, your main gets attention once every year even if hed need more changes sometimes.

they have different teams for big reworks, live balane and new champion creations. but the more champions are created, the more the live balance team has to split their focus on an ever increasing champion pool. you simply cant balance 50 champions in one patch, even if youd expand the balance team. because the impact on the game as a whole with such a huge patch would be too large and at some point trying to balance too many champions creates more imbalance than before.

and thats not even considering the technical side. how many bugs patches of that size would introduce.

if they release 300 champions or 500 champions, they can still only balance like 5 to 10 champions per patch. which means they wouldnt have the capacity to work on most of the champion pool for years.

also, the game environment becomes more and more unstable with every new release. every single item change can affect dozens of champions and push some of them into garbage territory and make others broken as fuck.

we have so many champions aleady that need work or a rework. they already cant keep up with them anymore.

by the time theyre done with a handful of champion updates, the previous hand full is already outdated again.

they have two rework teams right now. realistically theyd need like 5 or 6 teams who are busy with full gameplay updates to some champions to finish them by 2019.

champions theyre already planning to give a full rework, and some others that might need a small scale rework or at least a hefty amount of work are

Urgot Kayle Morgana Evelynn Tryndamere Mordekaiser Aatrox Malzahar Ryze Azir XinZhao Teemo AurelionSol Skarner Garen Annie Volibear DrMundo Heimerdinger

the list is really fucking long already. and those arent dealt with one single rework some times, as youve already seen with the repeated ryze updates.

Simple enough. If a champion gets fixed a few times and isn't good still, simply axe them. Use their abilities and shit in conjunction with other axed champion abilities to make legitimitely good champions. As for balancing? When there's a lot more champions, it would actually become simpler if they looked at it not as an art, but as a mathematical equation. Hell, a lot of what they do in balancing with just number changes could be automated.

I'm approaching this as someone in the know, not as a layman. What I'm trying to point out to you guys is that if they really wanted to be producing at maximum output and providing content to you, they wouldn't be doing what they are doing.

Sure there were people complaining about new releases, but they always kept people on their toes. Every week or two there'd be something new. Although you saw whiners then, there weren't many people quitting because of it. Do you know what a lot of people are quitting the game now for? Because it's too fucking stale that's why. It's always the same champions, always a variation of the same strategies, and anything that diverges from the norm is removed or banworthy. But that doesn'tmatter as much because what's monetized is the E$ports.

this isnt going to work for obvious reasons. if riot would start axing champions people have invested money on, especially skins, this game would die immediately.

Give them a free other skin of the same tier. Woah, magic. There is a point where people really don't want another skin for another champion. For many people that's 1 skin, for another large anount of people it's 2 or 3. It's not difficult to do, and by the time the people own the skin it's fine because they have already spent the money. With sales churned up so high, giving refunds on axes shouldn't be a major issue.

Now, the thing is it definitely is easier to maintain the game in its current state. It definitely is less risky. And it definitely maximizes ROI. Why should they give us more?

they should shift one of the teams working on new champs onto VGU's considering that they are both far more reliable in quality and tend to cause less balance problems, unless they're ryze

I don't really disagree. I don't think a total halt on new champs is what I want, but I would definitely prefer 1-2 a year for a while. I feel a little burned out on new champs. We'll have to see what three this year feels like (considering we already have 2 of them); I'm sure a renewed focus on ChampUp would be an improvement, though.

Riot's cycle:

  1. Over-hype new champ.
  2. Make them purposely OP on PBE.
  3. Make millions off those champs because people are so hyped to buy them.
  4. Completely ruin them with nerfs, never to be played again.
  5. Repeat every 2 - 3 months.

I agree, it would be great if Riot devoted more resources to this. To be fair though, they do have 2 or 3 teams working full-time on that now.
