@meddler: at this point, why wasnt garens villainy targeting been looked into in 3 years?

im not even talking about removing it or reworking the concept to something else in any shape or form. im not expecting a rework to it or massive changes.

what many people dont understand is, that the purpose of villainy is to make garens power situational, just like darius power is conditional and dependent on building 5 stacks on his opponent. this gives garen and his opponents a way to play around this situational power.

theyre misreading the mechanic too much as "getting punished for doing good". they dont understand if it was ever removed from his kit, garen wouldnt just deal less damage. the power budget would flow back into the rest of his kit, and hed be almost as powerful against anyone in front of him, as currently against the villain.

but why didnt someone on the live balance team manage to look into the targeting mechanism in 3 whole years? the ability is supposed to hit the largest carry threat on the enemy team. this is what it was designed for, for a couple of reasons. thematic, strategical and to still keep it kindof a fair fight between him and the villain, since the strongest enemy would be most likely to be able to deal with the mark.

yet, the "most kills, except against garen, within the last 5 minutes" mechanic constantly makes the passive misfire onto semi random targets, who dont actually carry or are direct threats, but happen to last hit one of your allies in a teamfight or skirmish.

the best example why this metric simply doesnt work is Pyke

no matter how strong his carry is, pyke is bound to just constantly being marked as the villain, just because he happens to execute enemies with his ult. any of his teams carries could be massive but would never receive the mark as theyre supposed to just because pyke is designed to "ks" as much as possible.

you have like a million stats youre tracking throughout a game. why arent more of them being worked into the targeting mechanism of the ability to just make it more reliably hit the biggest carry on the enemy team? i dont understand why after years you didnt just set someone on the job.

am i crazy here for expecting that in the timespan of 3 years, someone would sit down and make the ability work like it was intended?

What I am noticing is that after Garen kills the Villain, the status devolves to the enemy champion with the next highest recent kills. The status does not persist after Garen completes his mission.
