Dynamic Item Paths (While Remaining Intuitive)

With the right tooltips in place and seamless integration this could be implemented without feeling complicated by any means what so ever for the end user. See picture attached I tried to provide all the necessary information on mouse hover. So far could work for item 3025 and item 3139 as well as future items perhaps. Helps repurpose/extend the use of items.

scimitar out of either BF Sword or Brutalizer Handy especially now that item 3071 no longer builds from item 3134

i see where youre going here..but if it builds out of chain vest, shouldnt it grant more armor..and where does the cooldown reduction come from ? maybe a small oversight? interesting idea. I would like to see certain Tier 2 items have more build paths at the very least..since as you said, brutalizer only builds into youmu's so youre kind of locked in, whereas you can buy a bf sword or a just a long sword and have tons of options..id like to have tons of options plz :)

the price is reduced. by 300 gold but you give up 200 mana. Handy on champions who can get by fine with just 300 mana.

where does the cooldown reduction come from

item 3508 does not build from a small cdr item either and still gives 10% cdr on the final item.

ok then i dont very much like the idea as it is presented. i see no benefit in various build options that dont have much of an effect in the final item.

That's kind of the point though, you aren't creating an entirely new item. since that would warrant starting from scratch. Since you're repurposing the same item no sense in reinventing it. just helping people would wish to have a bit more ways to fine-tune.

finding a way to fit 10% cdr on an adc is pretty difficult this allows for this. i'd say that's a significant enough effect.

saving 400 gold on mana is pretty significant imo. a maokai or gragas that build item 3027 and item 3025 have enough mana as is.

Third item i have in mind currently would be item 3156 one version could build out of a new crit chance item instead of pickaxe.

"....On maw could grant more % chance to crit as you get low on hp UNIQUE: Grants +1 % chance to crit base damage for every 3.5% of missing health, capped at 20% chance...."

but you just told me that the various build options would result in the exact same old item...so where is the magical cdr and the extra crit chance coming from on the maw since no matter what you build the item out of, the end results in no real difference in properties? if you end up with a modified item...there is no reason to argue with me about chanvest giving gauntlet more armor since thats what youre getting at. either way make up your mind.

either way make up your mind.

just looking to offer finetuning is all without having to create more items for it. Its just like famous story of Goldilocks and the porridge. not quite a big enough change to warrant a new item, but enough to justify this feature. not too hot, not too cold, just right.

that sentence sounds great, but i cant figure out what the idea is. first i say chainvest should give it more armor and "fine tune" the item and you say no. then i say that makes no sense, and later maw has crit chance and magically items are giving cdr when you build them differently ( which i like that bit) but i cant figure out whats happening as you changed your mind twice.

i dont get the magical part? essence reaver currenty does not give cooldown. So this is indicative that not all stats need be present in the path leading to the final item.

the maw would have two options to build from. you pick which to build from. you could build maw with pickaxe or with a new crit chance item.

like i'm trying to say its not about changing my mind just that its the nature of the feature itself... such that it isn't polarized/deadset one way or another.

i'm not saying no to finetuning chain vest and giving it more armor. its just i already modified it by lowering its cost to 2500 gold. Also giving it more armor might be a bit different since it might be too strong of an item. There are a lot of items that shouldn't exceed so many stats and kept more budget oriented. If riot deems it okay to give it more armor and keep it at the 2900 gold point by all means cool. personally i think having an 80 armor iceborngauntlet would be too strong. Just suggesting this feature is all. riot can tweak the stats as they see fit if they so choose to adopt it,

thats sort of my point. if you are going to build guantlet out of a chainvest, it stands to reason that more armor is what youre after. i agree that the item needs to stay reasonable and not be rediculous, so as i attempted to to say

more armor built from chainvest, no cdr, less mana, thus equalizing the power vs cost issue. this would be an actual option as opposed to nothing really worth bothering with only having a reduced cost and less mana...

I see potential problems with this.

If i see an enemy with chain vest i'll have no idea what he's building toward because it will build into many things. That's already sort of the case but this could compound this if there are too many of these, and to feel satisfying as a change to the game i feel like there would have to be a bunch of them.

I'll also have no idea how much AD a scimitar would grant because when i see a completed scimitar on the enemy team i wont know which build path they opted for.

At that point why not just make them different items if they have different stats.

kindle gem builds out into a lot of items. i'm not concerned that much what they build it into tbh. If you're not sure just tell yourself to check their items next time you see them (good habbit to get into anyways), shouldn't be hard to tell which item they built with chain vest. sunfire you see the aura, and gauntlet you see the aoe sheen proc.

depending on adc its safe to assume which scimitar he has.

there might also be a way to indicate which scimitar they have like by adding different color rim? hovering could tell you also.

kindle gem builds out into a lot of items.

kindlegem builds into 5 items on SR, item 3056 item 3065 item 3050 item 3190 item 3401, one of which is tied to the support item... so 4 realistic options is an ok number but i think that you are missing the nature of my objection.

If you're not sure just tell yourself to check their items next time you see them,

Having advanced tier items build into lots of legendary tier items means that predictive counter building wont really be a thing. Not everything needs to build into everything and it is that way for several reasons.

depending on adc its safe to assume which scimitar he has.

If i am left to assume then that really lacks the clarity that is necessary for the game.

there might also be a way to indicate which scimitar they have like by adding a dye perhaps or some indicator, different color rim?

At that point why not just make them different items if they have different stats.

I think there's a fineline when it comes to building out of anything, but i don't think this would cross that line. Brutalizer only builds into 1 item atm.

the way items are in league its very restrictive and non redundant. I don't think we'll get to a point where it will get in the way of predictive counter building.

Of course this would not happen with one item this way, but if you do it with one item then why not just make two items?

well adding chain vest gives 45 armor and still doesn't exceed the final 60 armor mark, so i didn't think it was necessary. if you look at thornmail thats a 2100 gold item very budget worthy. I saw it more like that. creating something like thornmail cost effective and powerful.

as a budget item it could also be useful on supports like Braum Leona Bard etc. Bard in particular since with masteries and 1 mana regen support item... having to spend 1000 gold for mana that you'll likely not need most of use is pretty excessive. Yet item 3025 makes for a great item on Bard .

right now i tend to equip item 3800 on him with item 3092. I'd like the have to option to go item 3069 with item 3025 . with talisman i can get chimes and roam better but then i lack damage, iceborn helps with that. and i get the slow i need.

same goes for braum leona they don't need 500 mana. the 500 mana is nice on blue ezreal, gangplank, malphite, skarner... champions that need the extra mana.

reduced cost is pretty nifty thing to me imo. there are a lot of 2500 gold items especially for tanks. But sure i could see maybe 75 armor.

The stats can be whatever is deemed balanced. Im mostly interested in the feature itself the stats can come after.

whats important of course is making sure that this feature retain the item's inherent properties. like it would be ridiculous to give iceborn gauntlet's glacial shroud with say a kindle gem or magic resist.

or replace item 3139 's item 1038 with item 1058 ... that should not happen because at that point its a completely different item and a new icon would absolutely be necessary.

also had this idea for gunblade a bit different however does not change the item's final form but offers a bit more convenient build path if you want the active slow early while building item 3145 first. http://i.imgur.com/15v7tQJ.jpg
