Whats good/bad Ping?

Archenz··3 votes·24,867 views

I have recently found out that 100 ping is bad, according to my friends astonishment at how i could play with 90 ping. I dont know, as the only person on the east coast in our group, ive always had 100 ping in league.

Whats the average good ping?

In my opinion under 50 is good. Over 80 is bad.

Not much you can do about it though. It is what it is.

The average reaction time is around 250MS. (The fastest are near 100MS)

Your reaction time plus your ping is how long it takes you to react to something in the game.

So, in an exaggerated example, someone with a ping of 1 will be reacting twice as fast as a person with a ping of 250, putting them at a distinct disadvantage.

Test your reaction time here: http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime

My average is 222, not bad :D

Got like 172 on the first one then raised to around 240 and then kept a consent 190-210

Nice, my average was 255 and my best was 226 lol.

That is not true. This is the total "ping" calculation:

  1. Client-resp latency (server to client time) AKA input time.
  2. Draw time (usually 33/1000)
  3. Wire time (wires in your computer and monitor)
  4. Human Reaction time, which you test with the website that you mentioned.
  5. Pressing keyboard time
  6. Output time
  7. Server input latency
  8. Data validation time
  9. Server game calculations
  10. Server response, repeat

Well the precieved time can be reduced with client-side-prediction and less ping. But even if you react after 250, and ping is 250, you are at a noticible disadvantage because it takes that extra 250ms for the data transmission.

anything above 50 is trash. Rito dosen't believe in making servers so we just have to deal with it here on the east coast.

Archenz1 votes

I see, i don't really find a problem with 100, its 200 that really gets me, but yea might be im just used to it xD

I live on east coast and around 100 - 150 ping isn't that uncommon.

I normally play with about 98 ping on average. Although lately it has been around 100-110. I am normally happy with it as long as it stays below 120. I live in Florida, by the way. So East Coast.

Meme me my friend.

Btw I also live in florida. Is your house covered in the dankest and bestes memes?

(big fan, love the memes)

So yea, seems everyone who plays in florida has 90 ping. I live in Miami, so it's a pretty big city, so I should have top internet, must be RITO servers.

Well memed sir

Don't you hate it when scrubs copy your name just because your friends and they have no creativity

As well as a lack of good looks

Honestly, good ping is any connection that doesn't give you a "delay" when you're trying to move, auto attack, or cast abilities.

Ping(how I understand it) is how long it takes for the game to react to your clicks and button presses. The lower the number, the faster the response. I hover around the 90s. The best I've seen was someone in stream with 50. I wish I lived wherever they were. But if you're used to having 100 ping then you will be better at playing it than someone who normally has 70 forced to play 100. For instance if you suddenly and out of nowhere get 130 in ping, you'll notice the increase.

I have seen streamers on like 25 ping with over 200 FPS that have been unable to play with 120 FPS and 50 ping and called it too laggy. I get like 80 ping and 60 FPS on the east coast which is playable if you get used to it but I have heard low ping is a world of difference.

Archenz1 votes

Maybe it really is a large difference :D

Dedrius1 votes

I have heard from people on the East Coast who switch to LAN server who were previously NA Server that it is a massive difference in your ability to Land/Dodge skillshots and pull off some combos on certain champions.

Archenz1 votes

Maybe I should switch to LAN xD.

For some reason I could never get the hand of Riven, maybe its because of the ping.

Dedrius1 votes

Don't really need low ping to play riven :p but maybe

Remember Phreaks comment after the MSI Show Match?

"I just wasnt used to playing on 4 ping."

Living also in Fl and having to dael with around 110 ping on a daily basis is playable, i know others over in Washington state and in Cali who run on 23 ping which would be nice too. When i get ping going over 200 i notice the difference just like someone who plays with a 20-50 ping would notice the change playing on something around 100.

I do remember a guy in the forums once said in a thread about pings

"I play with 10 ping constantly and decided to make an account on EUW, well playing over there i had around 160 ping which wasnt bad, it was playable but not too terribly hard."

Well as has been said so may times before and back then we used to get a standard 160 ping on the east coast it is what we play with and get used to. It really depends on who your ISP is and where you are located that will determine your ping and then how you actually deal with it.

I know if i got a ping under 50 i would notice it and would it help me play better? maybe but i still do ok with my 110 ping even against guys with <50 ping.

I'm used to 90 ping, 50ish fps. I consider bad to be 140+ ping. I'm also NA East Coast, btw.

Mongoose1 votes

i get 40 ping because i am a high elo overlord.

Dreadlocks1 votes

i play at 66-74 on average. Sometimes if my bro decides hes gana download a game it'll shoot up to 250+ which is unplayable to me. Of all the pings ive played at anything @ or above 150 it starts to get really noticeable. I notice it when its @ 120 but its not unbearable.

Der Lindwurm1 votes

I'm lucky to get a ping down lower than 90. Lower than 80 has never yet happened. I've learnt to deal with the lag. For me, up to 115 or so is playable, but sure would be nice if it weren't an issue.

Stellafreyja1 votes

I live on the West Coast and my ping is usually between 50-65. :3

Naomi CoffeeGoat1 votes

East Coast here. Anything below 100 ping is a wet dream.

Troy2426211 votes

I get anywhere between 80 and 150 ping, and I'm honestly happy with about 100. Not thrilled when it spikes to 200.

Just Blame Jenny1 votes

I average about 20 ping. Don't hate me.

i am 27... no... NO CABLE just wifi... i really want to try cable.. OMG NO PACKET LOSS I THINK IT WILL BE 10 MS

idk i get around 70 ping normally. doesn't vary much so i'm happy.

I live in ohio and usually have 25-30 ping Game feels unplayable when it hops to 100. I notice my abilities are delayed when casting and its harder to dodge things. Before i switched ISPs my ping was around 85-100 and it felt fine. I believe there was an article before that said if you have the same person playing on 20 ping vs 120 ping the difference in their rank could be a whole tier.

Tharloc1 votes

I recommend getting haste if your ping is over 120

See2Jay1 votes

I average between 80 and 100 ping. And 4 - 12 Fps. So not great but yet I still win some. It's just that you get used to it.

Speical Gamer1 votes

Well my qverage is 69-82 but my best ms was 67 :DJax jax main btw

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

Anything above 120 is where it starts to get bad. Really good ping is probably 60 and under. I usually have around 20 ping when I'm at college and then 80 - 90 when I'm back home on the west coast.

DopeCanadiaN1 votes

Well I can say ping makes a massive difference, I played on North America whilst in europe with like 100 ping minimum and it felt so natural, because I got used to it, but I was literally bronze 5. I went to EUW with 41 ping stable and all of a sudden I couldn't play on NA anymore, it was just too laggy. Mind you I was playing for fun on NA on EUW I played more ranked and eventually got gold 5/4 this season so to me it is a huge difference, once you go below 50 you can't go back unless you spam those games.

sad þoy1 votes

I play on an average ping of 65-75 :(

I suppose I must have a really good ping because I've never seen it reach 100. My average is 22 if I am correct. Ping is the number next to the green dot, right?
