go surfing? I have a lot of family that lives in Colorado, and I live in Texas. When I'm up there in the winter I'm on the mountain every chance I get and my cousins are the same way. They worked as ski instructors for the free season pass every winter and basically lived on the mountain during break.

When you get back you'll be so tired you can't play anything more serious than bots and it'll be fine. Otherwise OCE server maybe if LOL is that important to you and you can't adjust to the ping. I'm not saying it's fair, but it makes mainland NA far more balanced and that's a much greater % of the league community. Yes it limits you from being able to play certain champs that need faster combo/reaction times, but you can still play NA if it's that important to you (Phasekiller and Nado, both Korean players are masters on NA server playing from Korea), and if the ping is more important you can probably get rito to transfer your server w/ a support ticket to them.

I'm on west coast, and already getting 80-120 ping due to bad internet, this may ruin my league for me.

On the plus side, when I'm on the east coast for college I'll get to see what this fabled 40 ping is like :D

It may still be about the same that it is for you on the west coast since the signal from everything has to still go through a mountain range. Sorry to burst your bubble. However it will be lower on the east coast then what it was before since it now only has to go through one mountain range instead of two.

i play on 30-40 ping. and let me tell you, it's fast enough that once when i was playing Syndra i was watching a Leblanc gearing up to use distortion on me. i timed her coming in so fast i managed to push her back directly onto her launch point before she even made it to me.

she literally stood there for almost 2 seconds in shock from have been shoved back to her distortion pad after trying to jump me. then she just awkwardly shuffled away.

if you are talking about post-patch leblanc, her distortion really is extremely slow and easy to cancel with the right champ like syndra if as you are ready for it, even with 100 ping you could probably do it consistently. rip LeCancer

On 80 ping I love playing ahri into a leblanc where to win my line I have to predict exactly when and where she's distortioning to so I can charm her right as she arrives. 80 Ping doesn't have any lag or delay between command and action provided that is only because of distance and not because of bad connectivity.

One time, I was playing Malzahar , and a Leblanc tower dove me. I used my ult on her, and she just stood there for 2.5 seconds in shock from all the damage I was dealing to her.

Riot isn't fixing the issue of players in different regions having different pings because it is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. Seriously people. The signals being sent through the internet are traveling at the speed of light. But even then, light is only so fast. It takes time to reach its destination. The farther away you are, the longer it takes. There is absolutely no way of 'fixing the problem' without Riot inventing a way to defy the laws of physics. I'd much rather they spent their time, money, and sanity on a better located server and more efficient internet routing.

I must admit I tried to google for some form of research showing a relation between rank and distance from the server. I would've love to have seen one, but unfortunately I came up empty-handed. lol

I think Riot would be the only one capable of taking such a measurement, and I kind of doubt they will.

I honestly believe ping makes almost no difference outside of super high values and super high elo. So I'm not too concerned about the before the move.

it actually makes a huge difference the faster the pace of the game gets. first person shooter games for instance, where on one person's screen they have managed to avoid death, a small distinction can keep the server from registering it as a death

the same happens in the fabled "tie", where for example, both players might shotgun their opponent for an instant kill at the same time, whichever the server registers first will be processed by both players

in league, this would be the case where a non-cone ability is about to hit a champion who can flash/blink out of it. the ability would have been a kill

for an east coast player on 120 ping, there is essentially a 240 ms gap between them and the server or over a fifth of a second difference

though 120 ms seems to be the norm for everyone not on amazing internet

I stayed with my friend in California for a month this summer.

50 ping.

I did not climb. I climbed when I got back.

Consistent ping is 100x more important than low ping. Plus, those situations happen very rarely, and even fewer times make a significant impact on the game, and even then the game is more reactionary so them getting a kill wouldn't significantly impact your chances of losing unless you already play badly.

Positioning, prediction, resource management, skill rotations, and other basic mechanics are more valuable than that 1/5th of a second.

Note I never said it didn't matter. however, It's impact is only noticeable at extreme values (ex. 500+) or in cases where opponents have equal or near equal skill (super high elo). Because skill trumps ping.

As annoying as the west coast crying is ( I'm an east coaster ) I kind of get why they are upset. Having 3 servers would be nice one in Chicago one in New York or D.C and one in California.

The hilarious (but not really!) part is when people report higher or similar ping times than mine (157ms to Portland), while I'm connecting from all across the Atlantic Ocean (Europe!) to the NA servers. The move to Chicago drops my ping to 103ms, and I'm simply baffled by the pings others report. I believe all of you when you say your ping is horrid, but it sounds like American internet infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired.

This is actually true by me. Growing up poor I didn't have high speed internet until 2010 when I was in high school. Not until now am I actually having a good connect I can afford. For ever I thought my 100 ping was great and IMO it's not bad.
