Wanting to learn Viktor

So hopefully I can get some thoughts from a Viktor main or two:

I noticed when watching gameplay of him that no one builds lich bane on him. Now, I certainly understand why you would max e and of course rylias is a must, but I was curious after looking up the numbers if getting a lich bane and maxing q would be better in a favorable matchup. The two hit combo is VERY reliable and even without lich bane does more dog than the first hit of e. The lich bane proc plus thunderlords seems like it would create a lot more kill pressure in a lane where you can trade easily.

Just wanting thoughts and or tips for learning this champ, thanks! :-)

always max E for wave clear, Lichbane is for the late game in which you want to Q AA the ADC or any champion who potentially wants to duel you.

Yeah, I totally get it. I was just curious because I have been unable to watch a resent game where lich bane was purchased at all. Was curious about the pros and cons for getting it early.

The reason why Lichbane isn't purchased alot, is because of how dependant he is to Rylais, before his E change people would Rush Lich bane as his 2nd item to increase his dueling potential, now that his E got nerfed its much hard to land the 2 hits. Rylais helps to land the 2nd hit with its 40% slow. Viktor wants to rush as much Magic pen and raw damage as possible such as Luden echoe, Rabadon, Abyssal void, his E ratio is insane and he is primary picked for being able to burst out the frontline when the support and Tanks CC an enemies at a specific location he then lock them up with his W and ER combo, using Q to get a movement speed buff to runs towards their carries or kite the frontline. Another reason why Lichbane isn't purchased as much is because CDR is spread accross alot of more useful items such as Zhonya, Abyssal, Hell even Hextech protobelt.

Lich Bane is a fine purchase on him, and has been fairly common on him in the past. Not sure what deprioritized it, whether it was the AP removal in Sheen or the rework to his kit.

There's nothing wrong with lich bane. The reason no one buys it early is because if you can reach level 6. Upgrade E and have enough gold for an ap item you can pretty much kill the entire enemy team with E+ ult.

plus E just gives him so much safety in lane and allows him to safely protect and attack towers in sieges.

Q max would great for 1v1 skirmishes but you get much more damage and zone control for your team with the standard E max.

Don't see many Viktor mains. It would be nice though.

Max E (Take it off smart cast if you're new to Vik, feels smooth to me) and get Lich if it's a melee range like Yasuo or Fizz. I would say Rylai's only if your team has no CC. You wanna upgrade the hextech core and upgrade your E, after that it's not important unless you're not getting Lich bane, but after Lich you want either Zhonyas for defense or upgraded hexcore (final one). Good luck out there man.

Lich bane is a MUST HAVE item for me, along with a bit of magic pen and you can bring tanks down rather quickly if you have your Rylai's with it. Lich Bane along with 2-3 other items means you can burst down squishies with no problem whatsoever. I am talking one shot possibility, proc Lich Bane with your q and drop an augmented E and they should be dead provided it all lands. You should aim for the first augment on your first back (1000 gold), boots if you have extra gold. Always augment your E first. Once you hit level 7 with augmented E you can take down and entire line of caster minions with one E & clean up the melees with a Q, AA. If you ever stun someone in your W, drop an E or Q during the duration once you have Rylai's. This will slow them after the stun ends and prevent them from chasing. IF you drop both an E and a Q whilst they are stunned and get around 3/4 of their hp, pop your ultimate on them and follow up with another Q or E as needed. CS is very important on Viktor as when he gets his first 2 or so items he becomes an absolute monster provided they haven't stacked MR at the start. Play generally defensive in lane until level 6 or 7 with an E augment. This is a very nice power spike and should give you fighting potential against nearly any laner. I hope you enjoy Viktor as much as I do!

If you can consistently Q>auto enemies then you should get Lich Bane 2nd or 3rd item. Don't get it first because the damage is not worth the gold investment because you have no substantial ap yet. However, you should consider buying a Sheen as a first item for some really good trades in lane but you want to complete another ap item before upgrading it to a Lich Bane. With Q upgrade, Luden's Echo, and Lich Bane, you can dash in and out of fights with all your movespeed (17% just from Lich Bane and Luden's and 47% after an upgraded Q) to deal really respectable and consistent burst damage while also having aoe damage/zoning with your other abilities.

Stormraider's Surge would also be a contender with Thunderlord's Decree with this build

With his new mini rework his Q already does a lot more damage early on. The problem before that was that Viks Q damage scaled with his level much like his hexcores. So it was great late game but not so great early. I've tried upgrading Q first and while it does give his Q auto-combo a lot of damage, his waveclear takes a big hit for it. So it can work if your in a bully lane against an enemy with low waveclear and that wants to get in your face. However my fav part of Vik is laser, it just feels so great to hit.

I've had about 250+ Rounds on Viktor on 4 accounts. D4 season 5.

I Enjoy the new Viktor, he feels just like he was during Hidden OP stage in early of Season 5 (pre-nerfs).

His Q feels so much stronger, Love it. His E is capable of wave clearing at level 7, just like before :D I rarely go Lichbane. It's a fun tool to use, but only if I am fed. If I fall behind, I want reliable sustain.

If you are new to Viktor, with slow reaction time, and unable to Q-kite skilled players, don't bother purchasing Lichbane, it will be difficult to pull off.

First thing you want to do is to change QWR to quickcast, E to regularcast to draw it yourself.

@ level 1 I start with Q for easy hard pokes, E level 2, W level 3, Max E, Max Q, Max W. (Maxing R is a given)

The way I build Vik is:

Initial buy: item 1056 + 2 item 2003 First buy (If Behind): +1 item 1056, + item 1001 (try to have 1-2 pots) Firs buy (IF DOING WELL): Rush level 1 item 3196 E upgrade for maximum wave clear/poke. (try to have 1-2 pots) Priority build: item 3116 to maximize Viktor's late E proc and Ultimate slow + item 3158 + level 2 Q upgrade.

Followed by common sense items:

  • Vs AP: item 3001
  • Vs AD: item 3157

item 3151 to maximize burn/penetration with item 3116's bonus.

item 3100 ONLY IF FED or if you are Skilled enough. This is not something you can buy if you are not good enough.

With correct runes, you will easily hit 40% CDR just with item 3158 + item 3157/item 3001

My end build looks like: item 3158 item 3198 item 3116 item 3157 item 3151 item 3089

If Fed: item 3158 item 3198 item 3116 item 3100 item 3151 item 3157

Items to Rush before item 3116 ONLY IF: item 3001 vs AP jungle + AP mid item 3157 vs Zed/Fizz or heavy AD comps
