Why does everyone think Season 5 was the best season?

LegacyDAP··4 votes·853 views

Why did everyone like this season so much? I personally remember not enjoying it, but not hating it either.

I hear a lot of people claiming it was because of tanks being able to jungle, but Zac, Sejuani, Amumu, and a handful of other tank junglers are pretty strong right now, so I don't know why that's an excuse for liking Season 5 over 6 when it comes to balance and diversity.

because in its last couple weeks, season 5 had actually pretty good overall game balance. the only ones whove been left out were mages at that time.

season 6 has been a shitfest so far and no end in sight. the fundamental gamechanges that riot has made to increase snowballing, combined with the entire marksmen update and a good chunk of the mage update has been nothing short of terrible. the mage update accomplished what it wanted to do to some degree though.

and then there is dynamic que.

I don't know about "pretty well balanced." Literally everyone and their mothers complained about the Juggernaut changes. Sivir was pick/ban in LCS from what I remember in mid to end patches. Runeglaive Ezreal was pretty much busted, and left a lot of AP junglers out of meta with Runeglaive being added. Tanks did had a very high damage and health and were quite annoying to deal with. Assassins were pretty much garbage because tanks could do their jobs like Malphite.

I don't think it's as great as everyone makes it out to be, maybe I'm just forgetting this wrong, but it was not that good. I don't think Season 6 is any better, but Season 6 isn't an excuse to say Season 5 was good, it's only good compared to other seasons.

Basically in general terms of grading. Having C's are pretty good when comparing them to D's and F's, but are just average or ok when compared to A's.

the juggernaut changes affected 4 champions. skarner was op on release, but 3 of those champions have been balanced after 2 weeks, and morde has been olafd soon after. the entire marksmen update left the game in an unstable state for month.

4 month into the season the game still felt as if we were in full on preseason. and then they followed directly with the mage update.

rammus and malphite being strong wasnt season 5. it was season 6 with the marksmen buffs, when people ran 2 and 3 adc teamcomps almost every game.

the worst part was, that while marksmen needed more diversity, they didnt even need the buffs that came with the update. never at any point in this game have marksmen been actually weak since season 1. they just have not been "the strongest" at times.

juggernauts were actually weak for years and deserved those buff. mages deserved some buffs with the mage update, since they were lacking at the time. (though i think changing item 3116 was a gigantic mistake).

whats worst is, that the entire marksmen update completely failed. it didnt give any of them their specific nieche and a reason to pick them situationally, but theyre in the same state as in previous seasons where 2 or 3 of them are dominating at all times while the others are secondary picks. it makes the entire bullshit this game has been going through because of them completely pointless.

Fair enough response on Juggernaut changes, but I do remember those being the worst 2 weeks of Season 5. I remember how everyone told them not to go through with the changes. I remember all of those champions being busted as shit.

This got nothing to do with Season 5, however I do agree that Season 6 is a cluster fuck.

I specifically remember most tanks in Season 5 being brokenly strong around the middle of the season.

I have to agree with everything you just said. It needed more diversity, the marksman changes for season 6 were awful. New Graves is god tier jungler, can't be balanced as an ADC. All the ADC's were pretty much in need for nerfs instantly after the changes with new items and reworks.

I do agree that juggernauts deserved their reworks (with the exception of Darius), but nonetheless it was extremely unbalanced for those 2 weeks. I remember everyone threatening to quit the game because of it.

Mage update was also deserved and pretty bad at the same time. Malz, Zyra, Swain, and Vlad were all extremely broken on release.

I'm gonna make this clear, because I'm sure we're not in disagreement that Season 5 > Season 6, but the question is why is Season 5 good? I just don't see the appeal in it honestly.

for most of the season, season 5 wasnt really good. but after the juggernauts have been balanced out, it felt like the most balanced state the game has been in years.

everyone had his place, and you could carry games from pretty much every lane.

i think the most important factor was that games felt so much more mid/lategame and teamfight orientated. for the most part of season 6 due to the heavy snowballing and the awful death timers (theyre still there, just slightly shortened after 30 minutes). it felt more rewarding to avoid any teamfight scenario, since 1 bad teamfight usually cost you the game.

just the general game pacing of and game balance of season 5 felt good towards the end.

we should have skipped straight to the mage update from there and ditched almost all of the preseason game mechanics changes.

This is what I wanted to hear. Thank you good sir, take my internet points.

I would have to agree that the end state of Season 5 genuinely felt pretty balanced, more than I've ever felt it be in. I felt like some changes still need to be made, but it was still better than the average League season.

That being said, I still think Season 5 overall had a lot of it's flaws that people seem to forget. It wasn't a great season. I wouldn't even call it a good season. It was just above average.

season 6 is the worst season ever

season 5 slowly gave me faith in champion balance

season 4 made me realize riot's balance team was retarded

season 3 and before was the promised times.

KillerPenguins3 votes

It's all personal preference. I think pretty much it's just people thinking season 6 is balls.

LegacyDAP1 votes

Pretty much what I was thinking too. I think everyone has their nostalgia glasses on. Just because Season 5 is better than other seasons doesn't make it good, it was just okay in my opinion.

AwesomeChad2 votes

No.... season 3 was the best season because you could literally carry on any champion. The reason why people remember season 5 is because They started in season 5 and after experiencing the changes in season 6, they miss it.

LegacyDAP1 votes

Carrying on any champion sounds fine in retrospect, but it just reminds me that assassins used to be able to build tank and chunk your health and it wasn't every healthy at all.

I never played in Season 3 so I don't know what it's like, but as long as certain champions carry in their own ways I'm okay. Aka tanks not building a shit load of damage and assassins building tanky, and doing what they're meant to do (tanks tank, assassins assassinate).

like this season?

Every Season since I started playing in Season 2, was better than Season 6.

I mean, I could get angry at the game before, but not "I want to kill every one of those fuckers, then rape their hamsters" angry.

LegacyDAP2 votes

I don't know why people keep comparing previous seasons to 6. Once again just because a season is better than another season, doesn't make it good. Season 6 is garbage, everyone knows this by now. That doesn't make every other season automatically good, it just seems good compared to this one.

Vistha Kai2 votes

That is pretty flawed logic there.

Let me rephrase is.

Before I could have **pleasurable **games more often, than the miserable ones. Now I want to kill half the people playing this game and consistently report, and ignore entire teams.

The point of a game is having fun.

Season 3 was fun. Season 4 was fun. Season 5 was fun. Season 6 is fucking atrocious.

LegacyDAP1 votes

My logic wasn't flawed, it's just an opinion. In your opinion from what I understand is that you think Season 4, 5, and 6 are fucking amazing.

In my opinion they're all about the same, but Season 6 is just worse than the others. There was nothing that made me think Season 5 was just the best thing ever, it felt like every other season, but had slightly better changes and it was still the same fun game I played previously. I didn't think it was insanely better than every other season.

Side Note: If you're consistently reporting half of the players in this game and having to ignore entire teams I highly doubt they're the problem.

In your opinion from what I understand is that you think Season 4, 5, and 6 are fucking amazing.

First of all it's Season 3, 4 and 5.

Secondly, no, I didn't say, they were amazing. I said, they were fun, unlike Season 6.

If you're consistently reporting half of the players in this game and having to ignore entire teams I highly doubt they're the problem.

You are right with your assumptions. I'm the problem, because they are flaming, AFKing, feeding, trolling and otherwise ruining my games, while for example, being Silvers and queuing up with high Golds to form 3-man and 4-man premades. At least before I only had to deal with one scrub being protected by his duo buddy-buddy friend. Now I - more often than not - am the only person in a team, not in a premade.

LegacyDAP1 votes

I'm assuming you're also not flaming back either and they just flame you for no reason right? I understand that premades cause a lot of problems for solo players, but as a solo player I have NEVER had any of those problems. If they decide they're going to flame me I mute them, simple but effective.

Vistha Kai1 votes

I give credit where credit is due, but when people get offended even at mere "Can you gank top, please", then screw them, it's an instant mute from me and a report after the game.

That doesn't change shit, if they either farm jungle for 30 minutes or only gank (and fail) the lane(s) their friend(s) is(are) and end up losing the game.

Or when I banned Zed, when the first pick didn't say shit and selected Zed for pick intend 2 seconds before the timer for banning expired, then first picked Yasuo and intentionally went 0/10, while he and his two premade buddies (official, they only had 15 ranked games together in their match history) were flaming me for banning Zed.

Solo queue

That was in every season previous to Season 5 too you know.

Most people who aren't new to league like season 3 . . .

By new, I mean, people that know a good deal of the game so that they don't need to ask "Does Lux do magic damage?" Or "Does Brand W apply blood thirster?"

S5 > S6 all the way, at least from a jungler's perspective. I cluld play literally whatever I want. If I want to play a tank and contribute to teamfights eating damage and bodyblocking, np, I could pick Zac, Seju, Mao, Gragas, Mumu, Skarner. If I wan to assassinate and still be relevant because there are always 2 sqishies in enemy team, I could pick Kha, Rengar, Nocturne, Pantheon, Evelyn, Shaco and still be relevant.

What about now? The whole jungle revolves around Gragas and Hecarim lol...

warpenguin5551 votes

nobody thinks that. everybody just wants a revert because season 6 is god awful

Baby Ghoul1 votes

I think solo queue has a lot to do with it. People don't think it's fair that you can queue with 2+ people now. Before you could only queue with another person, and the results were mixed. You didn't feel like it was too much of an edge.

I've personally seen Silver players be boosted up to Platinum by playing with higher ranked players, and then bragging about it. It's hypocritical on Riot's part considering their past shady actions and claiming to be against boosting.

I don't have fond memories of the jungle during season 5. I think that caused most of the balancing issues. Cinderhulk then Sated Devourer. I'd rather forget about S5 Cinderhulk Sejuani and Amumu or Sated Yi and Shyvana.

I remember Season 5 as being quite sporadic too. Running up to summer there was a brief period where every thread on G&B was about Vayne and Kalista. Then there was a brief period where mid Ezreal was what everyone was talking about.

Towards the end of the season there were some major problems as well. The Fiora rework was met with so-so reviews, then they went overboard with buffing her too soon and she morphed into a monster and she still hasn't found her place. The juggernauts rework caused a lot of issues as well.

The one thing I can say about Season 5 is it wasn't boring. Season 6 just seems a lot more boring in comparison despite there being just as many issues.
