How to make Fizz an assassin (Not a top laner)

Fizz needs the cooldown nerf on trickster to be reverted, for one thing. And to ensure that he won't be abused top lane, his W needs to be changed. Since people rely on the flat percentage damage to do anything, you take it away. You make the missing percent HP scale a LOT harder with AP, but you make the base damage go away.

The reason trickster had an increased cd wasn't a nerf towards top fizz specifically. It was because he used to hit 10-20% cdr at full build but with the mastery/mage item rework he is hitting anywhere from 30-45% cdr without sacrificing the damage that he used to have to. On average his E cd is still shorter than it was in season 5.

Edit: jfc, I didn't expect this comment to get any attention lol. Feel that I should mention I am abstaining from this discussion due to a lack of fizz knowledge. ;P

This. Also I agree with what OP says about his W. That ability needs a rework.

this isn't even true. ALl prior fizz builds had him buidling morellos because of how necessary CDR was on him, even though it offered nothing else as an item. Everyone still bought it because it was cheap cdr, which fizz needs. To say he was never building that much CDR just isn't true

Voluug133 votes

You misunderstood.

Now he doesnt need to build morello for CDR, he can go straight Lich Bane and Zhonia, which are extremely strong items on him, basically his must build items on midlane. He doesnt need to waste money on Morello for cdr, which means his powerspike comes stronger and earlier.

That is the E nerf reason.

I dont think it was op in S6 before the nerfs tho, the only actually strong thing about him was the tank build anyway.

Voluug131 votes

Its not about it being OP or not. And Fizz mid was still strong, not on the spotlight but not Nunu level under any moment of the season.

Its the same thing they nerfed Ezreal's ult for: they both got a lot more of cdr on their natural/core build, and said abilities were heavily balanced around building cdr being something they shouldn't without building non-core items (in Fizz's case: Lich Bane, Zhonias and Abyssal ALL have cdr, and are all core on him).

I agree, someone mentioned that it should be % health but have it scale with ability power, however that might lead to abyssal, zhonyas then tank items

His W needs to be reworked completely. Having %Health damage on any Assasssin is a really bad idea. Zed is really the only case where it's not because he can only use it when you are low health and can only use it once every 5 seconds against the same target or whatever it is so he can't abuse it to go full tank or fighter.

I dont think %hp dmg would really be a problem if it only scaled off AP/AD tho.

Voluug132 votes

It still could, because it gives assassins a tool against their natural counters, tanks and other tanky frontliners, which should not happen under any circumstance.

This.

If Mages got DFG taken away because its intent was to be a tank buster for Mages, but was abused against squishies, why should Fizz be able to kill tanks?

It really depends on the kit and how it's implemented. Fizz has a 0 second downtime on it with full CDR and has tools that let him easily proc it over and over again with no effort. Ekko has it as long as his opponent is under a certain threshold of health and also has really easy ways to proc it constantly which is also problematic. I guess it could sorta work if it was like "Fizz gets %health damage against targets that are affected by his ult" or "Ekko gets %health damage for 10 seconds after ulting" or something like that but having it just built into their kits is bad. Assassins in general just have kits that aren't really made well for things like that to exist.

Uh, no. % missing health on an assassin is perfectly fine, because the entire point is they're meant to delete low-health targets.

I have an idea to fix this tank-assassin meta. Let's STOP with percent damage/base damage and focus on SCALING.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

That goes against Riot's paradigm for Assassins of "Feast or Famine is bad, mmkay?". There has to be a good balance of Bases and Ratios. If they're all Bases, they get built Tank and still kill people. If they're all Ratios they struggle very hard in lane, probably more so than they should, and are useless if put behind. That's not the bad part of all Ratios, the bad part is if they get ahead as little as one or two kills they become absolutely unstoppable, even if they didn't outplay through opponent and just got a gank for them or cleaned up an early skirmish.

When there's a good balance of bases and ratios, the Assassins can do things in lane within reason, and potentially kill their lane with good play allowing them to be reasonably stronger.

how about giving him an hp/armor/mr ratio of below 1.0 just like with Kalista's AD, this way he gets less tanky that the items normally would make him

seriously though, I get the feeling there are other champs that would deserve this to prevent items from getting nerfed because of a few abusers

Xeruon1 votes

Or we could just give diminishing returns for CDR on his E, or just cap the CD, think Yasuo Q.

Voluug131 votes

Top Fizz's problem has never been trollpole, its W's passive missing %hp damage.

Xeruon2 votes

Yes that too, but his E is a problem in general, spanning Top Fizz, Mid Fizz, Jungle Fizz, and Even Support Fizz if you decide to do that for some reason.

Schàdenfreude1 votes

One of the reasons why people started doing tank Fizz is because they nerfed E ccoldown. It meant for less invincibility and therefore less survivability, forcing people to build more tanky.

LankPants2 votes

Tank Fizz has been a thing since at least S4, nice try though.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

Yes, I'm not sure why riot doesn't understand this. It's all they ever had to do to ekko as well. And IBG still seems too good as well.

Blåbæret1 votes

Lmao. Fizz is a problem even when he's AP. His E nerf was more than justified.

In all honesty, I don't want fizz to be an assassin anymore. Or a toplaner. Or a champion.
