Hey hey now, takes 3 seconds to delete Malphite

Rammus You called?

Azadethe3 votes

tbh atm Yi dominates Rammus because 25% of his damage is True damage, and if you taunt him into a fight, he's still attacking you. Once he regains consciousness, he does even more true damage, + that good ole % damage and true damage from item 1419 .

That matchup's basically became just like any other tank vs yi matchup: Hope your team kills him while you run for it.

It might work with the old Rammus, which scaled Armor > AD..... but not now.

Ahh lets just skip the fact that he has a 48% WR with a 6 % PR on op.gg. Yup there is nothing to complain about shaco, khazix, etc. And those who use lolalytics site to buff champion figures, he is gold tier jungler with a 49.5% WR in plat +, ranked at 87 place out of all champions, meaning there are 86 better champions than him at winning, meaning there are 86 other champions one should take into account before jumping on to him. Sorry to tell you the truth but these are the facts and figures. He is a feast or famine type champion,** he wins hard and loses hard. **

You probably lost a game where he won really hard, guess you need overlook how you play against him. I guess next target of your types would be Tryndamere. Hoping that after next patch people in diamond don't start complaining about Garen.

Shaco and Kha are stronger than Yi, statistically.

That is usually the no 1 counter for anything. GP and Olaf are the exception not the rule

RainXBlade1 votes

Well this thread is talking about Yi, not those other champs.

Azadethe6 votes

That's kind of the point here. His resets are happening too often to even hit him with most cc's now, because item 3124 is charged after a single Q, and charges his Q in about 1 second after it's charged. He's spending almost entire fights in Unstoppable/Alpha now, and doing more true damage on hit than he's ever done before.

Look at stat sites. ONLY in games where Yi has less than 2 items is he currently under 60% win rate. If he reaches 3 items, his win rate is 60%. If he gets 4-5 items, the rate is clear up at 73-78% winrate.

Master Yi suffers from the same issues Yasuo has... strong in SoloQueue, weak in organized play. There's not much of a way to change that without doing a full rework of either champion. Individual skill is higher in Plat and Diamond, but coordination is still not great because it's Solo Queue, people have their own thoughts and egos to contend with... in organized play there's communication, there's coordination and, thus, Yi will never really be all that viable.

Azadethe1 votes

Honestly true post.

( hate when people read a post and assume I'm raging and need taught how to counter any specific champ. I don't post to get pointers; I post because I know what should work, but isn't in practice)

And yeah. the reason cc isn't working in practice is because of Solo Queue.

But..... Solo queue is where the vast majority of players receive Rank Rewards from..... so most of us are stuck with that stupid conundrum: deal with an unreliable team vs Yi, or ban him. And yet...... there are so many other champs to ban.... because they legitimately ALWAYS affect games.

RainXBlade2 votes

Nautilus Leona Amumu Ornn Malzahar These are just a handful of champs that can keep Yi still for your team to take him down.

Also, abuse the fact that his early game's pretty weak and doesn't have good ganking potential.

Azadethe2 votes

Read my response to the person above you.

Anywho...... There's literally only one that you listed which viably is effective Vs Yi, and even he can be cured of his control: Malzahar

Nautilus : Has an immobile, but requires you to be able to auto attack which proc's Yi's Ginsoo's full stacks. Once your short root is out, Yi will just delete you with Conquerer. Furthermore, if you Ult him, he will Alpha Strike as soon as it is about to hit to enter Unstoppable status. While theoretically he has CC that could hurt Yi, that's just not how it works out.

Leona : While her kit is almost entirely stuns/roots, they are all short, and Yi knows exactly when to Alpha Strike vs Her: strafe to the side of her R to only take the slow (which he's immune to on ult), Q vs her Q, and face tank her E. If Yi does this, she's dead dead dead. (and good Yi's do this vs Leona)

Amumu : His ult is completely mitigateable with Meditate (Ult only stops attacks and movement, not skills). Futhermore, he lacks the outright damage to erase Yi. In the time it takes Amumu to charge a Tantrum, Yi can kill him 1 1/2 times. Yi also has a super easy time dodging Amumu's Q, if he wanted to.

Ornn : You're dreaming. Brittle's tiny knockback does nothing to Yi, and E is extremely unreliable, because it has a windup in which Yi ALWAYS will Alpha strike to that it misses. Ornn's ult is useless vs him as well, because he's immune to slows. He occasionally can hit a random E knockup if he times it right.

And what ALL those champs have in common: None of them can kill Yi solo. Although they have a cc kit, none of them have outright damage to kill Yi. They require teammates.

There's very few champs that actually counter Yi, and some of them are pseudo counters:

Zilean (will disrupt Yi's Ult by not actually being a death) Warwick (well timed Fear throws off ult, and allows WW a window to kill him. Doesn't work well at all when Yi is fed though.) Tryndamere (Ult carries him through Yi's Ult) Teemo (Blind) Taric (If he can manage to get his own ult off) Skarner Rengar Pantheon (can block hits, hardstun, large single skill damage) Kindred (Ult can save and has an insanely strong early game which stays with her the entire game). Jax (Auto attack bane) Heimerdinger Fizz (If he hits Trickster, since Yi can't alpha untargetable targets) Ekko (Good assassinate kit if he hits his shield zone) Braum (if with team can ensure pretty reliable stuns that are long) Brand (Good at killing linearly running aggressors; might die in the process though, as Brand's big damage has a brief delay) Annie (Stun nuke and has a % damage reduction on her shield which can barely sustain her through Yi's Alpha). Akali (Broken self sustain, and Yi can't hit targets hidden by smoke) Ahri (can Ult over walls to avoid him, and poke him once his ult is wasted).

play fiddle sticks. Just press Q to make him run away at the speed of sound for 2.25 seconds

Azadethe1 votes

heh. yeah..... as long as he doesn't just mercurial it or point blank cast his ult, since it lasts 7 seconds and he can run right back :)

Mhihnj1 votes

it is still funny tho. lol

Terozu2 votes

His winrate on average in 40+ minute games is 68%.

DMate191 votes

That is really some cherry picked data. Of course a late game carry will have a high win rate once everyone is full build. And considering his win rate is actually 47%, it honestly surprises me that you chose to ignore his low win rate and bring up his high win rate in extremely long games to try to prove your point

Azadethe2 votes

His win rate losses are skewed toward games he has less than 2 items. look at 3 items +. It's 60-78%. In Diamond. Once he's on item 3 he literally has a 60+ % win rate.

Terozu1 votes

Was very obviously, specifically talking about long games here, so fuck off. :D

Also thats not what cherry picking means. Cherry picking would be looking at 40+ minute games, taking the winrate, and saying its his typical average winrate regardless of context.

Azadethe1 votes

3 items is about 18 minutes, so not really long. The reason 68% is for 40 min, is because some people don't build the high win rate builds. MOST builds at 40 min push over 73% or more.

Terozu1 votes

Ummm no. Thats not how averages work.

Azadethe1 votes

Averages are weighted toward the builds people use. 76% use an appropriate build post 40 minutes. the other 24% weight it down to your 68% by performing poorly. That's exactly how averages work.

Terozu1 votes

Ummm.... no. That would be a 76% winrate.

68% build and play properly/are matched with statistically worse players/get lucky.

32% do not.

LIttle do people know Fiddlesticks jg actually shits on yi because yi dives your team and you just press q on him next thing you know hes on the other side of the map. Course it would probably be a better idea to go fidd support and just pick a different jungler. because if the yi is smart they will just build qss

good

its his turn

Azadethe1 votes

That's because post 2 items in a game, he's winning ~60% right now. Yi's that don't get shut down 100% are completely mowing down all elos right now.

https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/MasterYi/

If you look at "Triples" (where Yi finishes a game with 3 items), almost all of them are item 1419 item 3124 as the starting items.

This results in an almost instantaneous Ginsoo's charge on Yi, because of the added "half stacks charge to full" on the Ginsoo's rework.

In other words, with the current Ginsoo's he always hits for at least 2 On hit effects, and 3 On hit effects on his Proc.

That means item 1419 procs both of its on hit abilities to capacity on the second strike Yi does. In other words,

-12% of their maximum HP. -140 - 378 true damage. He's much earlier on getting almost instantaneous kills now, and like with Jhin, Ginsoo's is recursively applying on him.

**Furthermore.... people have discovered that the new Presence of Mind rune allows Yi to basically keep his Ultimate permanently available and on. **

If Yi has CDR, and kills 3-4 people, his Ult will extend out beyond the cooldown duration left.

If he has no CDR, yet still gets a Penta, his ult will be up by the time the duration is over.

In other words, now Yi always has an ult, can almost 1 hit everyone who isn't a CC tank, and has recursively applying AD with Conquerer, E, and Ginsoo's

Even if Yi gets destroyed by CC, the above combination of changes really is slanted for players who know how to be patient and wait off screen for an opportunity to kill a team that has their skills on cooldown a couple times. After that, he can just dive anything, because he has bought 4-5 items and has item 3139 to ease the CC.

Had a Yi yesterday literally Alpha every .5 seconds because Ginsoo's +his passive were just resetting Alpha that fast. No one could even CC him, because the second he landed, he was up in the air again. It took everyone but me dying to kill him, because I was Ornn , and that was literally the only way to win: reduce the targets available for him to attack, and be the one target left who is tanky enough to take a few hits, and knock him into a turret.

If you look at Yi's win rates at Quads/Full builds, the win rate gets even steeper atm. The only thing keeping Yi win rates down are when he has 2 or less items. Aka..... the only way to win is to successfully invade him and own his jungle, which many times his team will not allow at Diamond.

Just dont start a fight if you dont see him.

They all play the same way...they hide off screen until the fight breaks out then get fed by coming in mid fight and clean up. Just dont fight if you can't see him. Wait til he shows somewhere on the map or CC him when he does come.
