Well yeah, but I think people overestimate the importance of interactive skills for a compelling champion. Think about Udyr for example, and some of the crazy shit Trick does kiting a team through their base. It's not the mechanics you enjoy, it's the crazy shit you can get away with. In these scenarios, enjoying a jog through the enemy base or, in Warwick's case, a post-teamfight feast is actually enhanced by the simplicity of the kit. The real draw of this build for me isn't the damage (although winning duels is an important part of the build), it's the fact that when you get familiar with the build and the fights that you win, you end up in some really awesome scenarios where you steal a boatload of life and win a 1v3 after dipping down to 1 bar of hp or something.
I'm not saying your wrong, I just wish people would give simpler champions a shot more, and Riot should try harder to make compelling kits that don't need 3 extra normal abilities or paragraphs-long tooltips. I main Garen, and I honestly think he's just as fun and difficult to master as any other champion. Sure, his spell rotations take way less time to learn than Zed or something, but that time's pennies compared to the time it takes to push your champion to the absolute limit, and it's almost always really fun to do so.
