@Azir players: Why does ult need damage?

Riot is testing an increase in damage on Azir's ult on the PBE, and it got me wondering why they don't do the opposite. It kind of feels weird for the wall of shield soldiers to be doing a whole bunch of damage.

I was wondering what the Azir playerbase would think of a shorter CD ult that was more of a zoning tool/cc that didn't actually deal damage. Of course, this would require more damage in his regular soldiers. I'd love to hear some thoughts from others about what this would do for him from a game-health standpoint (adding or removing damage; just looking for good discussion).

probably because it is pretty reliable damage, especially when engaged on, and helps new or not so good Azir players to not get completely crushed on the champ while still being a small nice buff for good Azirs without breaking him.

more damage to his soldiers would enlarge the gap between pro Azirs and not-so-experienced Azirs even more, what is exactly from what Riot is moving away from.

honestly it makes no sense why they buffed his ult damage, should revert that and just make it 3/4/5

That's the kind of thing I was thinking. I would like that better, but I don't pretend to understand the intricacies of his kit. Hence the post @Azir players.

I think part of the reason they don't increase the duration of the wall is because even after multiple rounds of changes attempting to fix it there are still cases where Azir wall will trap people against existing terrain, which turns the wall from an obstacle you have to go around to an effective long-duration root.

Why dont they add a little animation for the soldiers so they have their spears going kinda between/over the sheilds (like in the movie 300) as theu push out then stand with just the sheilds up

For what its worth I feel folks frequently forget how offensively shields got used as a weapon. Shield bashes hurt. As for if it should be a higher amount then a spear thru the chest, not my place to say.

Ok that's fair. Point taken. My friends who were interested in medieval warfare would be disappointed in me for not making that caveat.

But yes, generally, I feel there's a reason you have a giant pointy thing in addition to the spear.
