So when is Riot going to stop punishing people for coming back to games?

General Esdeath ··4 votes·1,635 views

Had to reset my router and I was gone for a few minutes. Came back, played safe, focused objectives, and split push to distract the enemy so we could get picks and win the game, but I lose LP. What the fuck Riot? Why even come back at all? Next time I'll just go on PBE and play TFT, why should I play ranked for a win just to lose LP?

Stop punishing players who aren't toxic, start banning the actual AFK players instead of pussyfooting around and trying to avoid "false negatives"

lmfao yeah man, my router acts up after I take a shit and then doesn't act up for the next 289 days. Totally crap set up.

So, for starters, you should always check your ping before you queue up. If you had ping issues mid-game you need to accept the fact that you're being a huge detriment to your team by leaving to reset it, even if you end up winning.

Now, I'm assuming we're talking about this game right here, but if I'm wrong, please correct me. I don't think you contributed enough to that game to earn the same LP as your teammates. Maybe a system could be implemented where you receive reduced LP, but you didn't contribute anywhere near as much as your teammates and for that reason you shouldn't get rewarded the same amount as them.

In general though, yeah, you should gain LP if you DC for a bit and then come back, but if you leave for an extended period of time and don't contribute enough, you should get reduced LP.

Maybe if Riot had something in the client to test ping, because using cmd with the NA ip address doesn't always reflect it accurately.

Actually I applied pressure and split pushed, drawing the enemy to me, multiple times, so my team could group as 4 and get picks and catch up and scale. That's why I have more cs than my ADC, mid, and jungle. Being gone for 6 minutes in a 39 minute game is about 15% of the game. My team was behind before I left, while I left, and after I came back. The team caught up because the enemy had to respond to my split push. So no, I think I contributed more than some of my team mates, because I play the map instead of chasing kills like they did.

I think if you're gone for like 40% of the game yeah, but I don't see a reason to come back if I DC again and have to restart my router.

Open a custom game or practice tool? Takes like 40 seconds at most. It might be inconvenient but the option is there for you and has been for a long time.

There was way more room for improvement from your team, everyone had awful CS considering this was a 40 minute long game so to be honest, you saying that you had more CS than them really does nothing to contribute to the conversation.

I also sincerely doubt your team "caught up" because of you splitpushing and not because of your Ekko who had 16 kills in 26 minutes. Ezreal and Ekko were both immensely fed and I think that contributed more to the win than your splitpushing, but ultimately it doesn't matter.

At the very least you should receive some penalty for being gone that long, be it reduced LP or a leaverbuster.

It seems like you were gone for 8 minutes, not 6. At 5:00 you had 11 cs and at 13 minutes you just reached 12.

That's about a quarter of the game, and during one of the most crucial stages at that.

I know there's not much reason to come back after DCing which is why I suggested the reduced LP gains.

I've tried that, it gives me good ping because I'm playing alone. Once I get into a live game it changes.

How do you think I got that CS? It wasn't magic, it was split pushing and applying pressure.

Read that line again about them sending people, plural, to kill me and my team was able to get easy picks. The power of split push in lower elo is amazing because the enemy will chase you for kills and not force an easy 5v4.

When I got back I just had to chill under my tower and wait for the wave to come back. GP had enough items to one shot me, so I just waited. If I was 6 I would have risked it but I was 4 so, afk under tower.

That is not how servers work.

How do you think I got that CS? It wasn't magic, it was split pushing and applying pressure.

And I'm saying your CS wasn't stupendous, you performed averagely at best and your teammates did most of the heavy lifting.

Did you contribute? A bit, but you still left for a crucial portion of the game and the only thing you did was split push. If your team didn't play amazingly well like they did, your actions wouldn't have mattered.

The power of split push in lower elo is amazing because the enemy will chase you for kills and not force an easy 5v4.

And on average most people won't fall for that or they should be able to learn how to play around it.

What I said still stands, leaving for any amount of time should result in reduced LP gains since your team has to perform at a much higher level to survive during that time.

When I got back I just had to chill under my tower and wait for the wave to come back.

I really doubt you couldn't get a single minion or more in that time, but okay. You still left for a chunk of in-game time.

There is really little people can do to prevent this from happening every so often. If there is a freak power outage, even a flicker, your router gets reset. If something happens to your isp there is no warning. Even the highest quality and most reliable providers have occasional unexpected issues.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

You don't get punished for occasional issues. I have occasional issues. Never been punished, and haven't been warned for afk since I was playing on a third party client on my mac in 2012.

If you only have a few problems, Riot won't have a problem with you.

Theyre complaining about the LP loss regardless if they come back asap and play out the game, but were gone longer than 4 mins.

When it's not still a detriment regardless.

Seems like a pretty weak detriment since we won and I was still able to take towers, get kills, distract.

Wanna know what the real detriment is? That guy who leaves and never comes back, and then does it next game, and the game after, and Riot doesn't punish him.

The Ecdysiast2 votes

What guy? Who're you talking about, exactly? Strawman's a taken summoner name, so are you talking about him?

The point of the punishment is to crack down on people whose leaving, whether they come back or not, contributes heavily to their team's loss. The punishment of much rarer instances where a player comes back and wins are a necessary part of it.

To be honest, if you left and your team managed to get enough of a lead to carry you, you probably didn't do anything worthwhile anyway.

Any guy who leaves a game because [insert dumb reason here, i.e ADC took my red, you guys didn't invade with me]

So being gone for 5 minutes and coming back loses me LP...why would I come back then? Aside from empathy. What is Riot doing to punish actual trolls who leave?

To be honest, if you left and your team managed to get enough of a lead to carry you, you probably didn't do anything worthwhile anyway.

Wew lads, you might wanna learn about map pressure. When I can draw 2 people away from my team by split pushing, and my team can gain a lead off of doing that 3-4 times, I'm having a big impact. I know you're in the CoD mindset, that kills = wins, but that's not the case at all. My team was behind before I had to restart my router, they were behind while I was gone, behind when i got back, and still behind until I helped them to get picks and scale up.

But if you know map pressure, what's with the last 5 seasons...?

The last seasons I hit gold and called it a day because I just wanted the skins, then I went to other queues when they introduced the chromas for separate queues. And you can't solo carry every game, not even challenger players who are smurfing can do that.

Plenty of trolls and ragequitters leave the game for 5 mins then come back hoping the team will surrender. Simply put, there's no way an automated system can know why you d/ced, for all we know ur router coulda been fine. The only fact is you left the game and the system acted accordingly. The reason for coming back to play is even more straightforward. To not be an asshole and screw over the rest of your teammates who didn't do anything wrong. Regardless of why it happened, d/cing is still more or less your fault. Take the loss and move on, it makes no difference in the long run of climbing if ur good you'll get there.

If only we had a bot to read chat and look for phrases such as "Fuck this I'm out, I'm afk, enjoy the 4v5, etc"

And why would a rage quitter come back?

If only that was ever a thing that was useful for disconnects.

And because if you can leave to screw over your team but come back for no penalty, then thats why.

If youre someone that doesnt do it intentionally, then its going to happen so rarely the minor LP loss isnt even a factor.
