@meddler: could zeds death mark mechanic work for garens villain mechanic?

with the assassin update, there was a mechanic added to zeds ult that allows him to "steal" ad from the target he assassinated with his ult. for that purpose the game is giving him an indicator to which target currently has the highest amount of ad on the enemy team and is the most juicy target to assassinate, and grab ad for his ult passive.

now im wondering, if the game could have the tech to dynamically calculate the highest damage threats on the enemy team. meaning the highest amount of sustained damage and/or burst damage. (based on champion stats like ad, ap, cdr, penetration etc... and ability damage).

if such a mechanic would be possible to implement in the game. maybe it would be possible for garens villain mechanic to always select the largest carry threat on the enemy team and mark him as the villain.

i see a lot of situational issues with such a mechanic. abilities like Velkoz ult not always dealing the same amount of damage (either true damage or magic damage), or if the mark should dynamically switch in cases of abilities like Darius passive triggering and fervor of battle, that can suddenly cause a massive spike in damage potential on an enemy.

still, my question is. given the efford. could it be done?

I mean, they have the tech to determine which of a champ's damage is higher, their AP or AD for Camille.

So if we take the highest of all the champs and compare them, and make the highest one the Villain, that could work.

right, but what happens in cases Darius vs. an assassin with 300 ad on the enemy team or an adc with 250 ad and a massive amount of crit and attack speed? assassins usually stack a lot of raw ad, but that would make them automatically the villain, even though other champions carry potential might be larger at that moment.

the darius might have overall much less ad before his passive triggers, but might still be as fed as the assassin and a much larger threat to your team.

just comparing raw ad and ap against each other isnt quite enough imo. but it should be a factor to consider.

maybe his villain mechanic should do a thing that mixes the current mechanic with comparing raw carry stats, to identify the carry on the enemy team.

  • compare raw offensive stats of champions against each other
  • look into how many kills a champion has participated in within the last 5 minutes
  • compare the actual damage dealt of champions who participated in the fights that created those kills

so for example, when the enemy support happens to get 3 out of 5 kills in a fight by random chance, but the enemy adc dealt 90% of that damage, then the villain mechanic would not mark the support.

but when, lets say a Yasuo cleans up a teamfight, even though he didnt contribute a lot of damage to that fight, he would still be a high priority target due to his tendency to rack up a crapton of critical strike and ad.

This could work better. I like this idea, if the Villain mechanic is kept at all.

that's not calculable with numbers as for example Mages rely on their skillshots.

you can't say before the fight who will have the most damage done after the fight.

while the actual damage would be difficult to anticipate, in case of unreliable abilities, it would still be possible to calculate the full damage potential of a champion or an ability.

lets say in Annie you could easily calculate how much damage tibbers would deal to 5 people before resistances, given the current base damage on the ability and her current ability power.

i wonder if it is possible to use current champion level, champion stats etc. at any given time to identify the carries on the enemy team.

Wait it's only determining the highest? But I saw it on three people at once last night.

The team was extra villainous.

cant be at the same time. but if there are multiple enemies on killstreaks, it jumps to the next target, when the first target dies.

it can sometimes happen, when an enemy goes into the fight as the villain and is killed at the start of the fight. but then another champion on the enemy team lands a kill in that same fight. so he gets marked next.

now lets say the second guy gets engaged by garen, while a third enemy gets a double kill. since the villain mark can not jump while garen is engaged with the enemy who has it, it can happen that when the second guy dies, the villain mark jumps to a third target.

I meant on Zed.

oh, ok. thats weird. they must have had exactly the same ad value, lol.

or it was a bug. ive had 2 vitals against a fiora recently, of which one was a visual glitch. it was highly irritating.

turns out, killing her cleared that mark.

I still got AD from killing them.

maybe it allows for some wiggle room? no idea how exact it is. ive never seen more than 1 on the enemy team.

Weird. Maybe it was cause they were all fed (first time Zed fed a Yasuo on the enemy team).

I would prefer throwing the Villain mechanic into the garbage like the piece of trash it is, but if it were to be kept this would be a better way of doing it.

so really not much of a reaction?

i mean yes, this is more of a discussion aimed at a little bit indepth game mechanics. but since ive seen general agreement that garens villain mechanic needs tuning, i expected a bit more of a reaction for trying to find a solution.
