Why has Rumble jungle become a thing?

Zarkkast··12 votes·3,771 views

I've been seeing some lately and I went to check the statistics and it's 33% of his pick rate, and by far his biggest win rate.

Edit: It's over 50% of his pick rate in Diamond+

When has this become a thing and why?

Because people want to be able to make the god damned, "rumble in the jungle," joke every game.

They removed "deals reduced damage to monsters" from his Q, so he can actually clear now.

They had removed that a while ago, just forgot to fix the tooltip

WHAT! C'MON, I COULDA SWORN RIOT PULLED OUT THAT CHANGE!

Just tested it in a custom, and confirmed that they really removed the reduced monster damage. Welp. Thanks Riot.

Rumble Jungle is not a cheese pick, it's definitely his best position after the changes to Runic Echoes. The primary strengths of it are his clear speeds (faster than Lee Sin and comparable to Diana or Master Yi) and his ult range (standing even with mid lane outer turret means you can ult anything past the range of the other outer turret, beating wards). 18/0/12 masteries with Deathfire Touch. Attack speed marks, flat armor seals, flat CDR glyphs, one flat CDR quint and two flat AP quints. Q, W, E, max Q, max E, max W. Always start at krugs with item 1039 because the AoE in your kit means you get more sustain from talisman. item 1402 item 3020 item 3116 item 3151 item 3157 item 3089 potentially swapping your last two items for any of item 3001 item 3135 item 3143 item 3102 item 3026 It may take a bit of practice to manage your heat. You want to overheat every other camp during your first clear, and about once a camp every clear after that. With the 10% CDR in your runes, you can overheat with 5 casts of your Q if you spam it off cooldown.

Technically speaking any off-meta champion pick is a cheese pick unless it becomes widely accepted (which seems to be the case with Rumble). I think it's another fairly situation pick, but it should be healthy overall and fits into the current meta rather well.

I'm glad we're at least seeing a few more AP junglers come into play; I was disappointed to see how little Diana came into the conversation in competitive. Until they pulled this into play it was still pretty much the Elise/Nidalee show as far as Runic Echoes goes.

ltmetal1 votes

Diana Jungle is my main, I love her to death and would continue to play her even if she got nerfed to a sub 40% win rate. That being said, the only way a jungler ever sees competitive viability is if they can gank really hard at level 3 or if they abuse an overpowered jungle item that requires stacks. If an item is ever introduced that gives AP on unit kill with no cap or a jungle item is introduced that provides a Deathcap-esque passive, Diana Jungle will eat up picks and bans, but until then she doesn't give Elise or Nidalee level pressure.

Because you can have Rumble and a top laner that does not suck against basically every other top laner.

We should absolutely revert Flamespitter back to how it was in V1.0.0.121

Rumble is essentially a juggernaut, and between his q and w, he can clear the jungle quickly and safely once he's on a roll. This creates a pretty good environment to incubate him until he's well farmed and ready to drop an equalizer on the enemy team's head.

coeurloyal2 votes

Jin Air/ KT Rolster both pulled it out yesterday. It's because Rumble has really good teamfighting, moves quickly with Runic Echoes + W and clears rather well with the Runic empowered Q's. I personally think it's overrated, though. His gank power pre-6 isn't that great and his mobility is inferior to top-tier junglers.

There could, of course, be something I'm missing here. They aren't building Zhonya's on him, which just seems wrong to me--especially as a jg. So I don't really see the reasoning behind it short of just being a decent cheese pick.

Zarkkast2 votes

These are good reasons.

I'm kinda thinking it might be mostly due to the meta shift in the top lane though.

I only played him a couple times so I don't know how he fairs against the likes of Fiora, Pantheon, Graves, etc.

coeurloyal1 votes

His matchups against Fiora/Graves are not good. Definitely not good. He doesn't have the tanky engage that most teams are looking for otherwise out of the top lane, and doesn't have the security/scaling that Ryze has with free stuns. So he's just really out of meta currently. Having him in the jungle just provides a rare opportunity for AP outside of the midlane, which is probably the only reason he's getting picked up. AP just isn't doing well outside of mid.

I just don't know if it's enough for me to justify it, though. You'd have to run it in a double AD comp to really utilize it well, and they picked him with Corki/ Lulu. I didn't watch the games, but I still just don't see a reason to pick him over other meta junglers in CJ's case.

urgotdangit2 votes

It'd be nice if they threw a brief snare on the second Q or something. Or a stun if you're in the yellow, maybe 1.5 seconds.

coeurloyal2 votes

That would definitely make him more viable top. Even if he was required to land both on the same target to get the stun it would make him much better at trading. Could be really brutal on ganks, too... especially paired with his ult.

WadeWilson13372 votes

Have you seen his clear? Its one of the best in the game. His ganks are pretty meh, but he has a strong teamfight and when you have clears like that, its basically all you need as a jungler

What are the typical item paths for rumble in the jungle and mastery/ runes

Last time I tried this in early S5 it wasn't very good

Score's build mirrored this, so thus far it's all the same. That doesn't say much though because there are only two instances thus far.

EDIT: For those that don't want to look, it's Runic Echoes, Sorc shoes, Abyssal, Rylai's, Rabadon's. Nobody got to 5th item, but I would have to imagine it would be Zhonya's, Liandry's, or Void Staff.

alfavhunter1 votes

Looks like that game zonas was ignored because the enemy team had heavy AP damage

coeurloyal1 votes

I thought that at first, but CJ built a triple ADC comp against KT's Rumble jg and there still wasn't a Zhonya's. So I'm not sure if that's really the reason. I suppose it could be just poor itemization from Score, but I don't think that sounds right.

I did notice that both took Strength of Ages on him, which seems very odd to me knowing that both built him as a glasscannon.

3adc means no real front line so rumble can get to the back and kill them before they get the chance to damage

Vs 3 adc it's better to build damage than survival, because survival won't save you late game vs 3 adc dps

coeurloyal1 votes

I don't think Rumble has enough upfront burst to dive 3 backliners without dying unless he does a Flash >Q > Zhonya's, especially with an Alistar or Thresh up front. You'd think if that was the case they would choose DFT over SoA, as well.

I suppose Runic Echoes would help with that, but on paper it doesn't seem like enough. I suppose I'll have to give it a test play to see.

alfavhunter1 votes

Cut off thier escape with ult and they would fry

Rumble ult when going heavy AP HURTS

Or he could have been the anti tank of his team, shredding thier front line wile just out of range of thier engage with E then go in with R and Q W E overheat

coeurloyal3 votes

Right, but full AP Rumble only has 1900 HP at lv18. With no defense a single Cait crit from a trap instakills him during most points in the game, let alone trying to stand in front of three individual ADCs. Rumble needs at least 4-5 seconds to finish off a squishy assuming they're standing on his ult, which is where the Zhonya's comes in.

I just watched both of those games as well as the EU Rumble jg from today though; it seems the strategy is to AFK farm early and use Rumble's fast clears to pressure waves rather than actually focusing on ganking. Most of the pathing was focused on positioning to fast push waves on the opposite side of the map from the enemy jungler or just free farming and showing up to counter gank. He's able to go full damage because he largely avoids fighting altogether until they're ready to use a top lane tp engage (like malphite or Lissandra), where they just layer on the Equalizer and use the rest of his kit to anti-tank.

Sohleks2 votes

All junglers in competitive go Strength of Ages for that fat 300 hp by mid game. The healing after that is convenient icing on the cake.

300 hp is 800g worth of rubies

rumble to me is in a tough spot becuase he is really really strong if you can get him to the late game however and however he gets picked off he cant ge the items he needs(rylais and liandrys) so i guess the hoepfully safe farming in the jungel helps him and hey if graves can do it why not rumble

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

First off, stop bringing up my rumble jungle before riot knows it exist, I want them to buff him more.

And rumble's damage reduction vs jungle monster was removed long time ago.

Again stop bringing this up I don't want them to revert the buffs.

coeurloyal3 votes

It's already been played in pro on a few different occasions and has popped into pick/ban several times... This is far from secret at this point.

NUUUU WE MUST HIDE THE PRECIOUS XD, and on a side note people seem to downvote anything even jokes about keeping him hidden
