I think this explains why Darius currently has a low win rate

People simply don't know what they're doing.

Tip: stop leveling W second, it gives nothing but a slightly shorter cooldown on something that already has a short cooldown. E gives a shit ton of passive armor penetration which is much more valuable and an actual huge decrease in cooldown.

Sample size is way too small. The data is more indicative of the fact that Darius mains know which lanes benefit from putting off their E till level 4 in order to put another point in Q.

Zarkkast6 votes

It's not a matter of leveling Q on level 3.

It's a matter of maxing W before E.

By doing that you're hindering his mid-game power by A LOT, which makes it harder to get an early advantage. You're trading 20% armor penetration with 4 seconds of cooldown off of W.

There is a matter of sample sizes, but the point stands.

Yes, you made it quite clear that is what you believe. According to the data, multiple other conclusions could be drawn. The only thing this data supports (in your favor) is that in some situations and builds, maxing E before W is preferable.

it also supports that good Darius players adapt their builds to the situation at hand and win more.

or hell, that Darius counters champions likely to build armor early.

No, all these two proportions give is that these are the winrates of the most popular skill path and the highest winrate skill path.

There is nothing we can definitively conclude aside from the above because there is no control. All conclusions must be taken from evidence in conjunction with the proportions.

If you think that's bad, you should see Yasuo. Something like 70% of Yasuo's still max Q even though that's objectively terrible compared to maxing E.

Why it is terrible?

I don't play Yasuo so I would like to know. Maxing Q seems like the better option because it increases the damage. But if you, as a main Yasuo, say that it is better to max E, then I must ask why.

It depends on your playstyle. I can't agree with Slamurai as I max Q because it fits better to how I like to play, heavy poke and quick kills. Many max E because its much better for cs and it allows easy damage on a target every ten seconds. Again, its purely how you like to play.

All leveling Q does is give you 20 extra damage. That's it. And that damage can't even crit; only the scaling on Q can crit. E by comparison gains 20 damage per rank scaling up to 30 damage per rank because of E's increased damage when used multiple times. It also reduces the cd of E by .1 per rank and decreases the time before you can dash to the same target again by 1 second per rank. All in all, E max does more damage, makes you more mobile, and allows you dash on the same target again sooner, giving you much higher kill pressure and outplay potential. All Q max gives you is 20 measly damage that doesn't scale. Maxing Q is basically a holdover from back when putting extra points in the skill lowered it's CD. But ever since Riot changed his Q from 5/4.75/4.5/4.25/4 seconds to 4 at all ranks in 4.21, there's literally no reason to max Q first ever anymore.

I KNOW I KNOW, i'm really sorry, its just a bad habit of mine, i normally do it without thinking and then go "OH SHIT THATS 3 POINTS IN Q AND ONLY ONE IN E"

But my E doesn't do damage : ((((((

And also peharps because he is popular and champions that are popular tend to have a low winrate even if they are strong, unless they are absolutely broken, in which the case they get nerfed as soon as possible, even if that means a hotfix.

Speaking of which, I find Darius to be counterable, but I started to ban him because he tends to nullfy 95% of the top laners. Seriously, other than Lulu and Ryze, I can't think of a single top laner that is not countered by Darius. Leaving Darius open means that there is a very narrow number of champions that you can safely pick for top lane because the rest is just completely stomped by Darius.

really depends on the matchup, for 1v1 vs a non-tank maxing w second surly is better. his winrate is low because you can abuse his weakness to ganks early on very easily as an experienced jungler and he´s very easy to shut down in teamfights if noone feeds him...

Zarkkast3 votes

While I'm not 100% sure you are right (I'd have to do the maths - it's % armor, not additional armor, so it's good even versus non tanks, unless the tooltip is wrong).

What this shows is that Darius players level W first for most of the matchups. Top lane champions are in its majority either tanks or tank-ish, there are very few who actually go for raw damage like Riven and Tryndamere. Therefore they're level W first even against tanks.

Earl Eulrich1 votes

most common toplaners during preseason have been fiora and riven...tanks aren´t all that common nowadays. And his weaknesses can be abused no matter what he deceides to go for, he´s just really bad design unfortunatelly.

CoolKnightST1 votes

Just ignore him, don't tell your jungler they should gank for you. Darius is 4-0-0 before 5 minutes. Remember midgame his ult can deal up to 1500 true damage...

TDubH1 votes

HOLY SHIT, THATS SO TRUE,

BUT YOU KNOW WHATS ALSO TRUE?

BALANCING HIS AGGRO BADLY AND GETTING 5 STACKED AND EXECUTED IS REALLY REALLY STUPID/UNFORTUNATE YOU MAY HAVE EFFED UP

Leveling W at lvl 2 instead of E.

Barbarous. [zombie-brand-clap]

He has a low winrate because hes easy to counter and is gimped by a awesome and fun yet not so viable mechanic.

doesn't mean his design is bad

hes very well designed and does what he is made to do with fair waekness

as shown in lcs darius got completely zoned and destroyed before he could do anything

but in another game the enemy team did not attempt to stop darius and he just pentakilled them

Quinn who's there? darius whom? nah, i wrekt him a long time ago

dat game enemy darius went 1/11 vs me as quinn [slayer-jinx-wink]

I agree with maxing E second on Darius. I don't see the reasoning behind maxing W first. Your trade windows are pretty much dictated by your E being off cooldown.

E maxed second, Black Cleaver, and both parts of his passive synergize so well with each other. The armor pen it gives is amazing. It's real armor pen like season 5 last whisper, not this bullshit bonus armor pen of season 6.
