A Few Changes I'd like for Rakan...

Blade of Justic··47 votes·2,215 views

Increase the range of his E's dash to non-Xayah champs by 275.

Right now, the range feels abysmal.

Remove the Xayah E range indicator when Xayah isn't in the game.

It's just visual clutter at that point.

Other than that, I really do like the champ.

Make his E indicator show to others when you're trying to jump at them so they won't run away from you.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

i dont see why someone downvoted you this should be on every champion that can dash to an ally

Monotachi5 votes

The 1100 range indicator helps for when you know Rakan can double-dash to an ally further away from the first dash. This is where it's helpful.

Otherwise I agree that it's plain silly to think Rakan bonus E range with Xayah is a 'mere bonus'. It completely dictates how much more ballsy you can be with Rakan, and effortlessly survive with a Xayah on your team. Whereas Xayah's bonus with Rakan is meh. She can easily live without the extra bolts on her W.

Rakan's E range should be standardized, and shift the Xayah bonus to his Q instead.

Fertsa3 votes

People underestimate just how much power is packed into Rakan gaining Xaya's W. The damage dealt by her W is doubled by it, but that's not it. Every time Rakan attacks, it fires 2 bolts. it MELTS things. This is especially true when either Xaya or Rakan has a Runaan's hurricane, as the bolts also proc Xaya's W. Though interestingly enough it seems that Guinsoo's doesn't.

Monotachi6 votes

I suspect the 2X dash range is more gamechanging for Rakan in allowing insane plays, over a simple steriod that gives more damage, considering a support role isn't meant to deal damage. Top/Mid can fulfil the extra damage.

Does the bolt scale off Rakan's AD if he attacks? If so, that's like nothing.

Fertsa1 votes

It does the same damage that the bolts from Xaya's attacks do, and is considered damage from Xaya in kill credit

CasterGilgamesh5 votes

also either code rakan autos as melee or reduce his auto range to be melee so he can use item 3302

Navarune1 votes

His auto attack range just feels really wonky. Honestly, I'm not opposed to him being ranged, but if that's going to be the case then he needs at least the 450 range of Morgana and Janna. Or, better yet, let his attack range and his Q range scale up when teamed with Xayah rather than his E and buff his E range by itself. I think these changes would put him in a really good spot.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

ima try playing full ap support to see if he does better

Navarune1 votes

I tried it shortly after he came out. It's meh, at least to me. No scaling on the shield or heal, so the AP doesn't help his utility, only his damage. Full tank feels better in my opinion.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

i tried and failed like him better as a tank

Alesya3692 votes

His passive literally has 90% AP scaling, Q heal has 70% heal scaling and his E has a motherfucking 160% scaling. How is that "literally no scaling" to you?

Navarune1 votes

I wasn't very clear with that statement. The BASE scaling on his Q and his E are low, and so are generally maxxed secondarily to his W. 80% AP scaling on his E (which is doubled if you get the second dash) is decent, but the base numbers scale pitifully, so its very rare to see anyone max E first. It has become more popular since the last patch to max Q first since the range buff makes it easier to land, but I still personally prefer maxxing W first for the reduced CD on his initiation tool. Maxxing Q does nothing for the heal scaling since it's based on champion level and not skill points.

What I meant by "the AP doesn't help his utility" wasn't that the AP ratios are bad, but that you don't get the base numbers scaling while simultaneously building raw AP like you do in virtually every other scenario with other champions (maxxing shield on Janna while also building AP boosts both the base numbers and the scaling at the same time, doubling down on the scaling). Instead, you get very weak power spikes in terms of build effectiveness while building AP on support Rakan, while also missing out on the powerful actives that are in the support meta right now. It's just not worth it to me.

Alesya3691 votes

Why do you assume that Rakan will only use his Q and E once in a fight no matter how long it would last?

Navarune1 votes

Nowhere in my post did I make any such assumptions, and I don't see anything that should make anyone think I am basing anything off such an assumption. In fact, this:

{quoted}

...80% AP scaling on his E (which is doubled** if you get the second dash**) is decent,..

supports that I acknowledge he will use at the bare minimum E a second time. The fact remains that if he uses them once or 4 times in any fight, their per-use effectiveness remains the same regardless. Furthermore, CDR enhances the number of opportunities he will have to use any and all of his skills in a fight, and true support itemization will max his CDR much faster than an AP build would, which is the core of the discussion that sparked this whole argument to begin with.

Kubox1 votes

I keep believing he should be able to share a ranged ally's attack range for a few attacks whenever he dashes to them.

A lot of supports (especially true supports) have had changes over time to give them a reason to AA in trades be it early or late-game. All Rakan gets is a faster shield from his passive, which not only does it really not shine that much in lane, but is mostly useless late-game as Rakan is too squishy to really justify going back into the fray to get his shield back.

sorry for hijacking (i will upvote the thread)

but can someone explain why he recives so many buffs for having her on the same team?

Ralanr3 votes

They get bonuses for having each other on the team. The problem is that Rakan actually feels like a full champion with Xayah, while Xayah gets a bonus for it.

It's lore related

Ok i gotta call bull on this, almost every card they use in the show is either OP as crap or tournament banned, hell almost all of yugi's deck is tournament illegal.

fun vid poking fun at this

CasterGilgamesh3 votes

the creators are yu gi oh card game don't know how to balance their game properly or not make bad archy-types based on the anime.Riot is nowhere near that bad as them.

AirKingNeo1 votes

They have a lore called Duel Terminal. It's different from the anime, and also the reason you've never heard of Qli, Nekroz, Tellarknight, Shaddoll, or Zefra in the anime.

Also the reason why we might not get a Tellarknight LINK monster. "Lore."

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

i know about tellarknights and shaddoll cards never heard of zefra though

AirKingNeo1 votes

Zefra is the weird cousin of all of them. They're part Tellarknight, part Shaddoll, part Yang-zing, part Nekroz, and part Ritual Beast, but they're all pendulums.

No one knew much of them because all their cards are rare and they didn't become meta until now (over a year since release) with the addition of Zefraath.

Pendulum Effect: During your Main Phase: You can add 1 "Zefra" Pendulum Monster from your Deck to your Extra Deck face-up, and if you do, change this card's Pendulum Scale to be the same as that Pendulum Monster's, until the end of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Zefraath" once per turn. Monster Effect: Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your face-up Extra Deck) by Tributing all monsters you control, including at least 3 "Zefra" monsters, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. After you Special Summon this card, you can conduct 1 Pendulum Summon of a "Zefra" monster(s) during your Main Phase this turn, in addition to your Pendulum Summon. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.) Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 monster; Special Summon 1 "Zefra" monster from your Deck.

It's like their dream card.

Yes I know that they are a couple

But why gimp a champion when he is without her?

Maybe he's just whipped?

Well he does get collared in one of their backing animations.

In Rakan's lore it says that Xayah is the reason he fights...so if Xayah isn't in the game then he isn't helping much i guess.

Skorch1 votes

They tried VERY hard to make them both playable without eachother. With more success on Xayahs end than on poor Rakans.

Fairyfleur1 votes

The buffs aren't required for Rakan or Xayah to be good by themselves. Though, Rakan's E range could be higher.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Riot have expressed that these two, whilst being able to be played seperately, were designed to be played Together, and will be balanced accordingly.

SexyBabyJesusZ3 votes

they should outright remove the buffs and whatever when they on the same team, its cool and all lore wise, other than that it makes no sense and only adds balance issues

korg0233 votes

Why did they even make him be better with Xayah. I understand that its thematic but i dont see how is it consistent and healthy for game itself. Heck if they wanted league to be balanced around lore why not apply it for all champs. For example for every demacia champion other demacia champion gets +10 true dmg on basic attacks. Do you get the point now.

Mr Noggenfogger1 votes

Because by themselves, Xayah and Rakan would be a really shitty bot lane. Rakan would be heavily limited by xayahs immobility and lack of range.

Pater Gascoigne2 votes

His e is a strong ability, however it feels terrible to use without Xayah nearby. Have my upvote

Skorch1 votes

I saw someone bring this up when Rakan was first released. But there IS a benefit to the Xayah range indicator. If you are trying to move a far distance quickly, Xayahs range is exactly twice everyone elses. So effectively her range is what it is like to jump twice. Its kinda nice to know.

On another note though i do think his non Xayah dash should be a bit longer. Rakans squishyness mixed with slipperyness is how he is supposed to be balanced early. But if the AD takes 1 step away after you W. You have no escape. Give us dash to minions shield ourself with E SOMETHING.

However if they do buff Rakans E range it would be nice for Xayahs to stay doubled to keep the light feature i mentioned earlier a thing.

PureSilvrr1 votes

I think we should get a self e shield, because if we get a dash to minions all the lee mains will start playing rakan, and I don't want that.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

You have passive for that.

PureSilvrr1 votes
  1. Is passive always up?
  2. Are allies always near for you to dash to? Instead of buffing his E range, which would probably make him one of the top supports, in need of nerfs, just let him self shield.
Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Passive isn't always up, which is why you need to be smart about when and how you engage. It's the exact same argument as to why Rakan is not supposed to be a tanky champion.

Allies aren't always near for you to dash to, which is why, and I repeat, you need to be smart about how and when you engage. Self shield would be just as bad as slightly increasing his dash range.

If Rakan could self-shield he'd be WAY WAY too forgiving for a champion that is supposed to be the 'Assassin-Support'

Acheron161 votes

Rakan is the most gimped of the two. If Xayah isnt present, his E feels really lackluster with a puny shield for the short dash he has. Even Lee Sin's W feels better.

If Rakan isn't present, Xayah literally loses nothing. She only gets better with him, while he needs her to function.

Alesya3691 votes

She loses 20% bonus PhD on targets AA'd by Rakan while having W on without Rakan.

PureSilvrr1 votes

but its not that much (even tho I think the e range is fine)

Acheron161 votes

{quoted}

You just said it yourself, Rakan rarely attacks while fighting, and the ability is perfectly fine without him being played, just a literal bonus.

Rakan's E feels pretty bad when used on someone else, only feeling right when being used on Xayah, therefore feels like a necessary bonus.

PureSilvrr1 votes

I honestly think the e range is fine, all you really have to do is make sure your adc walks a step towards you. My QOL changes would be to have him able to self cast E, making him more viable solo(so I can actually clear as jg rakan) For the second ring, someone said to look at it as the length you need to be to jump to a second person, since its a little smaller that the actual length
