item 3060

I often see this in the recommended items for supports but its stats never made it attractive to me. The only time I ever built it is when I needed a cheap way to get enough HP so I can Warmog Soraka and get the passive.

However, I've seen it mentioned as a powerful item on these boards. Why is this item powerful ?

cause it gives you gold for the minion killing other minions, buffs a minion in a lane causing it to push that lane, immune to any form of magic damage period which is a major form of wave clear and gives you some AP gives some mr, gives allies MR and gives 10%CDR, HP and mana regen

Pushing power. Slap that onto a cannon minion and push with it. It prevents spells from damaging it. Basically, they have to auto the newly empowered minion. For champs like Yi or Trynd that's fine, but mages and such? It's hilarious to watch. It's definitely an item more tailored to enemy AP comps as it gives AP, MR, health, and an active that is detrimental to APs.

Split pushing, especially against a mainly magic damage team. you put one of these shields on a minion, put down a zzrot portal, and go to another lane and push (as like udyr or heimer or someone else). the lane with the banner and the zzrot gets pushed, while you push the other, and your team hopefully pushes the last. they have to stop someone somewhere, so it will be a favorable position for your team. If you get it on support you can just shield a minion, and go with your team while that minion pushes. You get gold from all minions your minion kills, it does more damage, has more life and is immune to magic damage, and on top of that you get a mr aura ap health and some cdr.

It's best when the enemy is mostly AP as it makes the promoted minion immune to magic damage so only certain enemy champions are capable of killing it

Well it builds out of aegis, which gives a MR aura and so aegis is worth getting against pretty much any team comp with more than 1 magic dmg dealer, and support players are typically the ones expected to get it.

Options then are locket or banner. Banner gives some AP and helps give some split pushing pressure, while locket gives some extra hp and an active magic shield which can be useful if the enemy has some anticipatable aoe magic dmg.

Banner doesn't require any reflexes to use effectively so I almost always get that.

The active makes a targeted ally lane minion immune to magic damage; which is great when the enemy team is mostly AP. But yeah it's stats are lacking, and the active is next to useless in this physical-mobility meta.

I grab it under 2 situations:

  • Howling abyss where I'm facing 5 ap opponents
  • I'm playing Galio against several ap opponents and I've already gotten 4 mr items.
