Does anybody else feel like Riot has no idea what they are doing with Malzahar?

Okay, the rundown of the situation:

Malzahar passive is bullshit and just absolutely OP.

Riot buffs/nerfs- him by lowering his CDR on the shield but making the shield last a shorter amount of time.

The community was complaining about the fact that the shield made him immune to ALL DAMAGE and ALL CROWD CONTROL EFFECTS

summoner 14 So Riot decides to give his passive a shorter cooldown but an even lesser duration, again, this passive is made to prevent ALL DAMAGE AND ALL CROWD CONTROL. How. The fuck. Does this make sense? I would gladly take this buff over the previous Malzahar, look, his passive makes MOST SUPPORTS useless and you need to get into AA range to even pop it. Which is literally asking for him to E you and take half of your HP in lane or ult you in a teamfight. I am not saying that Malzahar is OP but I am just saying, everybody is bitching about the fact that this one passive is broken. And then Riot buffs the portion of the passive that makes it bullshit. Just, wow.

The problem now with Malzahar is although it masks his old weaknesses of being an immobile mage, it's a crazy toxic passive. You now can play aggressive in lane and bully harder imo. I agree I think on paper it seemed cool with the malz changes, but it's just crazy and im worried for main man malz!

On paper, all of the malzahar changes looked like shit xD

After this nerf to his passive (i know this post is 3 days old), he really isn't any different. They simply removed the safety net that they provided. They've made the passive so negligible, that they could probably remove it all together, and see almost no drop in win rate.

People complain about his passive, but all it ever did was allow bad players to freely use the part of his kit which is the real root of malzahar's bullshit now. His W. You press a single button, and his voidlings automatically kill you. Doing almost half of his damage. It takes no skill, there is no management of them, it's literally just a button you have to press off CD.

If im not mistaken, doesn't it only last for 0.25 seconds? When you're against him don't use all of your moves at once and combo him. Attack him once to get rid of his shield first.

When you are in AA range you are in range to take his entire combo, while at the same time you are unable to do anything to him until his passive is down. His ult can make sure you can't do anything at that time.

So AA range is the range for his combo? So he's weaker against long ranged champions like Ahri Brand Ashe Cassiopeia Ezreal Fiddlesticks Karma Jinx and countless more

So if he goes up against people that don't have that benefit, top lane and a lot of the mid lane champion pools it is perfectly fine to not have that sort of counterplay when his shield is up?

Yes it is fine. Malz just has a 0.25 counter for fighters and tanks. He doesn't have any escapes from ganks anyway, btw most mid lane champions Ahri Annie Brand Cassiopeia Karma Leblanc Ryze Xerath Vladimir Yasuo Ekko Azir Talon aren't close ranged. If it's really this big of a problem then use ignite.

For fighters and tanks . . . use a summoner spell to blow his passive ability . . . says that Annie isn't a close ranged champion, cassi isn't a close ranged champion . . . Ryze isn't a close ranged champion . . . this guy.

125 to 200 = AA melee champ range 400 to 650 = AA ranged champ range

-Tanks usually have tons of health and defense, a combo from ONE champion shouldn't do over 3000+ damage. -Annie's Q is pretty far, but not far enough, my mistake. (625 units) -Cassiopeia's Q range is 850, way farther than auto attack. -Ryze's range is 900, farther than Cass's. (For Overload)

Syndra's orb + scatter the weak stun combo which is pretty long range is 950 units long. Ashe's Volley is 1200 units long to put this into perspective.

Anyway, like most mages, Malzahar would be able to combo you like other mages before you even touch him. And if you don't die he will retreat until his cooldowns are done or ignite you. Remember, his shield lasts for 0.25 seconds.

So you meant only tanks, okay. So again, what chance does a tank have at beating a Malzahar? Cassiopeia is definitely a good counter btw. The issue is laning with Malz, the passive at hand. Then engaging in teamfights, he can't get caught by most means of "getting caught" unless if he just has poor positioning. Stepping around the problem isn't going to solve anything.

Most tanks are only beatable by having the whole team focus on them to get them down quickly. He shouldn't be able to take down a tank by himself without doing tons of poking. Tanks actually have a big chance of killing anything, but in the end it comes down to each player's skill level.

Cassiopeia Just use this and you're done! Go in battle, use your w to disable his shield and and slow him a little, then q and e him to death. Easy as that.

It works the same way against Yasuo too.

I agree with the title, but what are you talking about? They nerfed his passive in both CDR and duration.

duration got cut into 1/4, and the scaling CD at 6/11/16 got halfed, meaning double the CD at 16+.

In fact, the duration is so short now, that you can almost ignore the passive (both malzahar and the enemy), leona can E,Q and still stun him. If ranged champions auto and then cast a spell after the auto animation it still hits malz. Literally if you are playing against him, just do all of the things you'd normally do, except don't lead with your ability your maxing.
