Why can't people accept the rank they are at?

Eedat··8 votes·1,234 views

And that they might be there because they deserve to be there? I mean if you have 500 ranked games played and have a winrate that's very close to 50%, you think you might deserve to be there? Maybe you aren't climbing because you're at the rank that you belong in?

I see so many threads every day with a million different excuses, but the fact of the matter is that you don't always play well. The afk/troll/feeder isn't always on your team. In fact, its statically less likely that they are on your team. You take up a spot on your team which leaves 4 spots open for afkers/trolls/feeders. However, there are 5 spots on the enemy team for them. Assuming you aren't one of them of course.

I just dont understand the mentality of people who think playing a hundred games at a 50% win rate means they should climb. It makes no sense any way you look at it.

I understand that people trying to shift the blame to anything but themselves isn't a new concept, but god damn is it getting out of hand

Yeah but after so many games and still stuck at an elo, it is you. Not the feeders, dynamic queue, boosters and feeders.

So that means you must accept you are gold, silver, etc.

You are no better than that rank.

Because it's a common human trait. It's hard to accept your faults. It's easier to blame others.

Because, I can play some bullshit champion like Jax and just stomp all over people. I can play a champion like Poppy who has a <40% winrate and stomp all over people even harder. I do well just about every game, to the point I have a 5:1 KDA overall, and a 4:1+ on just about every champ I play.

But, I lose anyway, because the bot lane fed 15 kills between them, and top has 8 deaths, while I have maybe 1 or 2.

So, yeah, sorry if I don't really think I'm silver. Especially when I can lane against diamonds and challenger players and win massively.

Eedat5 votes

Seems you are one of those people who thinks winning lane is everything, but you dont know how to function when laning phase is over. LoL is 5v5, not 1v1

Especially when I can lane against diamonds and challenger players and win massively.

Not even going to go there. Not worth my time

Niyumi2 votes

Yep, 'cause that's what I said. Winning lane is the first step, then you go and roam around and win other lanes, control objectives, and all that. Despite doing that, I still lose a good portion of my games, because people are literally incompetent and feed even when ahead. Besides, my main role is jungle, so I don't really have a lane half the time.

And hey, Rainslight is challenger, and was playing their main, Anivia. I was Kass, and was 15/2 coming out of lane phase, but still lost anyway 'cause bot lane fed to no end and Anivia was one-shotting everyone.

No, I have 4,000 games in silver. Still lose most of my games despite doing great myself.

Niyumi1 votes

Congrats, you got lucky with matching. I, on the other hand, am always matched with people who can't play the game to save their lives.

Spoofghoul1 votes

your doing something wrong

you probably are better then the people in your bracket

doesn't mean you will climb not even if you win lane everytime with a trillion kda

you play with 4 other people their playstyle is differen, and they arent adapting to yours obviously

ill give you a hint maybe its time you adapted to their playstyle

Niyumi1 votes

Sure, I goof up every now and then, even LC$ players do. But, I don't mess up every single game, and even when I do mess up it's not that bad. But, like you said, I'm playing with four other people. And, since I can't win a game by myself (unless I'm stupidly fed or they're just bad), I have to rely on them. If they're morons, I lose.

I don't know how I can adapt my playstyle to not having a team.

Spoofghoul1 votes

well for me it was playing the map pressure game to climb out of the shitfest elo

using stuff like banner and zzrot on morgana or heimer and run away from every fight

tilted my opponents everygame

you have to understand your opponents are jsut like your team they will chase for kills do stupid shit or don't ward

when not playing support i sometimes bought an extra sightstone just to provide extra vision, but only if my team had mechanically good players which im sure you encounter too

with red trinket i kiilled enemy vision and with sightstone i put more for us and voila my entire team ends up snowballing because they can't see us but we can see them.

you have to be creative sometimes to enable your team, i used assymetrical tactics. More vision more pressure making sure they had to spend 2 people to keep me at bay meant a 4v3 for my team providing more vision for the team whilst taking away theirs also helps in a similar way

use your superior skill to create advantages for your entire team

and yes there are sometimes unwinnable games, don't tilt over them it aint worth, just look at the stuff you yourself can improve on and focus on that during such games

I looked at your stats. You have a pretty high KDA, but you have a lot of games logged in and not a good win rate. My guess is you focus a lot on kills and not on closing out games. You also play a lot of different champions and roles it seems. You may be OK with all the champions but not really excelling in anything

KDA doesn't mean too much, you are beating up on players in a Silver Elo, which you are probably better than. There is no way that if you were significantly better than your peers that you would be stuck in Silver for over 2000 games.

I had no issue getting to Gold on my main account and on my smurf after placing in bronze I on my main and silver IV or III on my smurf.

I just played a few champions and few roles and climbed.

Niyumi1 votes

Again, I mention KDA because it's a general kind of indicator of performance. I don't focus on just kills, I focus on ending the game. If that involves killing people in my way, then I will. If that involves splitting top all game and never getting a kill, then I'll do that too.

As for playing a lot of champs and every role, I come from MMOs, which are infinitely more complex than this game, and played several classes at a very high level. So, playing a very simplistic, repetitive game with four buttons is really not that hard. Once you learn the general mechanics of the game, each champion is more or less the same, with a few nuances here and there. Sure, I may not be as good as someone who plays only one role, but I can adapt to any teamcomp, I can fight any teamcomp, and I can counter any team or champion.

And, you looked at my history. Am I the issue? I don't really believe I am, but I might be. I just often get matched with people who really shouldn't be in ranked at all.

I can give you some suggestions/advice based on your game history and stats, but I can't really help you without watching your games. Longer reply, but at the end I have will post some observations regarding your stats.

How League Ranked Works:

Here is the league ranked system in a nutshell. Assuming player distribution in the division is about even you have a 50% probability of getting good teammates. This also means that the opposing team also has an equal chance of good or bad teammates in lower Elo (Bronze, Silver, and Low Gold). If we look at statistical combinations then the chances of getting bad teammates several games in a row is really unlikely.

(1/2)*(1/2) = 25% 2 games in a row of bad teammates

(1/2)(1/2)(1/2) = 12.5% 3 games in a row of bad teammates

(1/2*(1/2)(1/2)(1/2) = 6.25% 4 games in a row of bad teammates etc.

I say that it is even in that the opposing team has an equal chance of getting bad players as well, regardless of the division.

What does this mean? It means that if you play consistently "good" as a player you are more likely to move up. It may be slow but you will move up. It also means that if you play consistently "average" you will most likely float in a range moving up or down depending on your streaks and teammates, and if you play consistently poorly you will fall a bit but not too much.

You also need to consider the ranked system is "adaptive." By this I mean it adapts if you are winning or losing more often. If you win games you will play against opponents that are also better or at the minimum winning more games. You can say what you will about "boosted players" but the reality is that you are just as likely to have boosted teammates or opponents the only factor the ranked system accounts for when you play are wins or losses. Holding all things constant, we can assume that if you continue to win you will be playing against players that win more often because they better.

Now there might not be a big difference in skill between Silver IV and Silver III players, but there is probably a difference in skill between a Gold V and a Silver III player.

When you consider that the system adapts to be harder, or easy, depending on whether you are winning or losing, it means that the likelihood of you losing several games in a row drops, even if you keep getting bad teammates.

Meaning there is some additional variable, lets call it True Skill (TS), that is exponentially additive to the probability of you winning or losing the game. Think of it at "for every game that a player loses in a row, there is a .5% increase in their chances of winning the next game due to their TS." The .5% is an arbitrary placeholder and it could be a lot lower or higher depending on TS.

The point is, that you as a player have a true skill and that the lower you fall, and your TS is constant, it will make it less likely for a losing streak to occur. A true Gold player may fall from Gold III to Gold V, but it is unlikely that if the player will fall to Silver 2 and be incapable of capitalizing on weaker players to achieve wins. I am assuming that player skill does not regress and is held constant.

You can also say that the player could "tilt" and begin to play below their TS after a certain point, but you need to consider that you are still playing against presumably worse player with each lose as you move down the ladder.

TS also means that it can negatively affect your chances of winning as you climb. Meaning you are playing against better players with each subsequent win and that unless you TS progress you have a lower chance of winning those games.

So for example the chances of getting four bad teammates in a row is (1/2*(1/2)(1/2)(1/2) = 6.25% but your chances of winning that fourth game improves by .5% for every subsequent loss or you lose a .5% chance to win a game with every subsequent win.

That being said, your chances of winning or losing several games in a row is unlikely and even if you have good or bad teammates, you get additional assistance (or hindrances) from your own TS if it remains constant.

My KDA is High Though!

If you have a high KDA it means you are probably better than your peers in terms of mechanics, but may fail to close out games or know when to take objectives.

High KDAs are pretty meaningless in lower elo. They are also pretty common. Why are they common? It is due to the nature of a lot of low elo game turning into absolute stomps. If you are better mechanically than you peers, but are not necessarily winning games more often you will naturally have a high KDA because you yourself may not feed in losses, but you can easily take part in the stompings when you win. This means that you are probably "under-ranked" mechanically, but you still have not figured how to win games except through kills.

Sometimes when you look up a plat or gold players KDA you will see it isn't that high. This is probably because they may have "plateaued" in their skill at the moment. They are playing against players that are around their skill and finding it harder to kill opponents, not die, and provide assists. They can't "pad their stats" basically in wins and in losses they don't get stomped, but they simply lose.

If you see an average KDA, but an above average win rate, it suggest that the player, in spite of not being as mechanically gifted as their peers, is probably better at winning. This player finds ways to win and probably has a really good understanding of how to do that.

Here is my best guess based on your stats how a typical loss may go for you:

You (whatever your role aside from support) achieves kills and/or assists in the early game pre 10 minutes.

Your team has a kill lead but, not necessarily an objective lead (towers, dragons, rift, etc).

Teammates on other parts of the map are not doing that well. Despite your teammates not playing that well, you keep them in the game, getting clean-up kills and you grab a tower or 2 in the first 15 minutes.

Then the game hits 20 minutes and while the enemy team is down, they have a couple of players that are pretty strong.

Your teammates are behind and you are the main carry on the team (maybe you have one other player on your team doing OK or well). You guys group and win a teamfight (maybe 2) take a tower but no inhibitors.

Your teammates farm to catchup and you begin to hit the 25-30 minute mark. At this point the enemy team KNOWS to focus you in teamfights.

You guys team fight and you die. Once you die, the team fight is lost (even if it isn't a clean ace). The enemy team pushes your towers and manages to get an inhibitor.

You spawn back up and decide you will split-push, thinking your team can't win a teamfight. It is hard to take objectives though because the enemy team rotates to you and they are farther away (tier 3 or tier 2 towers are the only ones up)

Game hits 35 minutes, and on one of your split pushes your teammates decide to rotate to you instead of putting pressure elsewhere on the map. A team fight occurs. You die pretty early and your team dies. Clean ace. Opposing team pushes down the lane with the open inhibitor and wins.

This was just a guess but I suspect that this is what happens frequently in your losses.

  • We have a game where you play well, get kills, keep the game even.
  • Your team is a liability
  • The enemy team KNOWS that you are a threat and that your teammates are NOT threats.

Maybe I am way off base, but looking at some of your games you have quite a few kills even in your losses.

Patterns with your play:

  • I also notice you don't stick to one role or champion and you have a tendency to play the same champion in a row multiple times and then switch, with Jax being someone that you use intermittently and more frequently than others
  • You play a lot of roles, going back to games from a month or two ago I would have guessed you were a top or ADC main.
  • Your games are a bit long and your CS per game is OK. Looking at your CS per minute it looks to be 5-6 outside of the jungle and support. This is on the lower end and you should be closer to 7 or 8
  • Your warding looks OK. You ward more when you are not jungling. So try to ward more when jungling
  • Play fewer roles and champions
  • Stay out of the bottom lane - it hard to win games there
  • You are playing a carry champion but instead of looking for kills always look to take an objective after an enemy death (this means any enemy death). If you respond with "I already do that" well you aren't doing it well enough because with your KDA you are clearly not taking (or looking to take) objectives after enemy deaths. Otherwise you would have way more wins with how many games you have played.

I will say play fewer champions and fewer roles and you will win more than you lose. You seem to be all over the board with champions and roles.

It took me 534 games to go soloQ from bronze 4 to gold 5 this season and I was a legit bronze player. You can't put that down to luck in matchmaking. I've had my share of losing streaks due to trolls/random afk and toxic noobs including shit like, "oh you're in series, I hope you lose"..

Even if you win your lane, you must be doing something wrong in your games. Maybe not enough objectives? Bad decisions late game?

I suggest you play support cause this role helps with game awareness and you can prevent people from making retarded shit if you're good enough with it. Also, a good support prevents the adc from feeding even if they suck and come late game can keep the most fed champ alive. So support impacts at least 2 other players apart from yourself. + you help a lot with vision.

It's not that I don't hate where I am, but I want to climb more and get better. I'm plat3 currently, and even I know my flaws, which is tilting. Soon as I get past that I believe i can get to high diamond, possibly 3, or even higher. I never complain "I deserve to be higher" because I know I don't. I've been plat for about 3 seasons, woulda gotten diamond last season, as i was in promos for diamond. But i quit due to serious health problems. I doubt I'll get diamond until assassin rework comes, as I used talon, zed(not very fun to me though) akali, kass. I enjoy talon and kass most, but due to some changes they hardly win lane, as they don't counter champions they used to.

I know I belong in low Plat. And when I say that, I mean it. I probably can't get any higher than mid Plat until I legit improve - which won't happen with my schedule. I just dropped from s2 with 5o lp to silver 5 as of tonight in two weeks....these last 5 games i played, every lane including jg fed at least 3 kills to the enemy team by 10 minutes in ... except me, I do not know what I am supposed to do to carry the entire team that feeds so hard...I wish my individual performance counted towards how much LP is lost or earned - I know riot says mmr influences it but as far as I can tell it is still fairly arbitrary. No matter what role or lane "I" play, I usually get a decent k/d/a - counter jg near my lane, and out cs my opponent, try to gank closest lane if an opportunity presents itself etc. - yet when the entire rest of the team just feeds like brainless kids and start with the 'idgaf' rhetoric....I feel trapped by other players skill (or lack of)...
