IP Sink Idea: Your Own Personal Poro

Meep Man··132 votes·3,217 views

This is more of a "for fun" idea and I kno many of you likely won't exactly have much thought or opinion here since most of the community is likely not at this point, but I have recently reached a point to where I am starting to run out of stuff to spend IP on. So, I thougt, "Hey, why not just have it be something entirely cosmetic?" Introducing "Personal Poro", a pet that you can customize and bring into a game with you if toggled on.

The idea here is a player can purchase a pet poro once they reach Level 25. They name it and then use IP to customize their own little pet so as to express themselves. While in-game, their poro will follow them around while they are out of combat with enemy champions. Out of game, perhaps the poro could have a very small chance to fetch keys and/or chests depending on which you need, but it doesn't have to. Pet poros are like a small secondary skin for the user to express their wealth of IP. Perhaps there are some INSANELY HIGH IP cosmetics for a pet poro for those who just want to dump all of it into their little friend. I think this could be an interesting IP sink to League since it's not a system that impacts gameplay at all. It's just a way for someone to express themselves and show off dedication to the game!

@thread Why couldnt you have a passive IP dump that slowly accrues resources? Riot could easily make an app game where you;

  1. Buy a poro for 450, 1350, 4800, 6300, 7800 IP (IP is shared with your riot account and requires a riot account to play the game)
  2. Set your poro to do quests which take time
  3. Upgrade your poro with poro gear (obtained from quests and honor. Poro gear can also be turned into a key fragment); go from a simple poro all the way to the godfist poro!
  4. Quest rewards give you poro gear and depending on your poro tier they can also get you IP, chests, shards, and key fragments
  5. Can upgrade your poro nursery to have up to 5 poros
  6. Can upgrade other various things to increase drop rates and shorten quest times
  7. PORO PVP where your poro fights against other poros to see who is the ultimate poro! Rank milestones receive special icons.

Basically a poro dress up game with some light PvP and standard filler RPG elements.

Would probably require some RP to justify the cost. But I like it. Poro can be the new pokemon

Obviously you would be able to purchase poro snax with RP - Consumables which instantly finish a quest.

I don't love this idea unless it was super-optional. I don't like grindy quest things, and adding more grinding for resources would take away the point of being a sink for current resources. Otherwise, a poro app game takes this from a neat idea to a concept for something that could eventually be salable. I could see a good product development team taking this and turning it into something real and very profitable.

It actually might be worth trying to see if we can get the attention from a Rioter at this point. I don't ordinarily say that for this sort of thing, since using fan ideas is iffy at best for a company, but this is a strong enough concept to at least be worth bringing it to someone's attention. Any ideas how we might go about doing that?

It wouldnt be grindy - just time intensive. Likely you would also use IP to also upgrade your gear.

Have you never played one of those super simple "RPG lites"?

Because that's shovelware crap and is not actually a game.

Caitlyn hat on my poro pls

Bottom line, something to use ip on would be nice for players that have tons.

Rewt7 votes

The problem with this is that It would add too much visual clutter for the game. Its already a cluster fuck and if you add poros following you around while out of combat its gonna be like playing with 5 bards with all that fucking shit on the screen following the champions. While it wont murder my PC i could see it killing off a % of the playerbase just because of all the shit on the screen. I have a freind who gets 15fps in teamfights. If you had all this clutter he would get 15fps during any normal given point of the game.

While I do understand that you want something to dump IP into we also need to look at new player barrier to entry. New players already are facing this massive wall of 115+ champions in league of legends and to add in this would be just another thing that the new players would buy into not knowing just how much of a sink it is and waste a lot of IP and time.

TLDR: Cool in concept. bad in reality.

SpookyNeedle14 votes

Make them toggleable in the settings -Your poor visibility -team poro visibility -enemy poro visibility Maybe even put it where the mute buttons are

Rewt4 votes

If they added this id immediately turn all poros off.

Morgan le Fey14 votes

Then the problem would be solved, wouldn't it? I'd think you were missing out on the adorable darlings, of course, but that's your prerogative. :)

Did you know about the option, hide eye candy? that disables ambient effects and critters?

I want my spirit wolf back more than a poro...

What a spirit wolf costume for the little fluff balls, as an homage to our old spectral pal. [slayer-pantheon-rainbows]

No, in my country we write with a dot (not comma) to split the every three numbers. To me, a comma is used for the decimal numbers.

I know this differs depending on country.

So, if you attempted to educate me, you can have some education back. ;) I'm nice like that.

While I like your idea- the Poro would need to stay at base and wait for you. I don't mean around the nexus- I mean it has to sit in fountain and cheer you on from there. The moment the thing starts to affect actual gameplay I think Riot will look negatively at it.

CasterGilgamesh3 votes

but how would it affect gameplay if it simply does nothing but follow you.

SociopathFriend2 votes

Imagine you run into the bush and the poro trails you by half a second- an enemy can see it. Scratch that- imagine running anywhere outside the fog of war and the little trailing poro giving you away. Aurelion had an entire LCS game pulled because of a bug with the bushes and vision.

Also it's just distracting, one reason they got rid of ghost pup, never forget ghost pup.[zombie-nunu-tears]

CasterGilgamesh4 votes

couldnt they make it go invisible as soon as you walk in a bush like how the singed trail works (or used to work idk if they changed that)

SociopathFriend1 votes

Poro's already have existing code though- such as Poro King and Howling Abyss- I don't believe they follow this.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Code in a second type of poro?

Speedphoenix3 votes

I agree with the Idea, but a few requirements:

  • poros MUST run away (in fear?) the moment damage is dealt to or from a champion and either:
  • you must be able to toggle poros (if possible individually) for all people who don't want it
  • or the poros are only available in normal games, poros are disabled in ranked

LOL. Riot would never include this for IP. RP RP RP RP

Especially with runes being free with the update, we need somewhere to put our IP asides from champions. Not like we ever get chroma IP sales anyways.

PaladinNO2 votes

The Chroma IP sales are bi-annual. I got the next one put about November. But you're right, those are not enough. And the 24K IP I got Chromas for on my to-buy list likely won't make a noticable change on my IP counter.

Morgan le Fey2 votes

This is a lovely idea. I could see myself cultivating a whole garden of wonderful lovely little poro darlings, if they let us, and picking one for each game! I'd spend far more time and IP on that and get far more enjoyment from it than I would from chromas. I don't think I'd even buy all the champions, then; better to spend IP on cute poros I'll actually get use for than to spend it on champions I despise and will never touch.

StarGuardianWeeb2 votes

as someone with only 20 champs owned rn (i want 6300 and 4800 ones most so it takes quiiite awhile to grind) i would love this idea but never see me personally utilizing it unless they address ip gaining and/or champ prices in the future.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

well they are making runes free so thats a start now all you need to do is save money for champs

Standgrounding2 votes

Then someone in Rito allows poros to deal damage and buy item 3031 s

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Dear god. First we have Raptors with BorK, Poros with Infinity Edge. Soon, Scuttle Crab will buy Sunfire!

What about Poro buying a Randuin's omen and dealing 10000000000 true damage with it?

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

Will the ability include the option to kill the poro? I might be on board with that. . .

This is an absolutely amazing idea. It would even be more funny if everyone's poros "squared off" in champion select like they were going to fight each other.

I like the idea of using IP to unlock emotes. I've always wanted the ability to wave "hi" at the jungler who is camping me when playing top lane when I see him in the river bush.

Spoofghoul2 votes

Sion Yess i could use a little undead jugger poro friend

if it gets killed it would then respawn and kill other nearby poro's with it's zombie passive

Oh and i want it be able to turn into a wagon to follow me around when im ulting

And i need to be able to pelt it away with my E

ModCaptainMårvelous1 votes

Riot's rapidly running out of IP sinks. Chroma's are occasional in the year, runes are on the way out and most content patches offer 1-2 things to buy with IP. Champion prices going down plus the loot system means new players will have a far easier time grinding out all the champs/champs they want.

Honestly, I sincerely wish there was more stuff to spend IP on.

I think Poros following people around look fine on Poro King. I don't think visual clutter is much of an issue in a game where the map is mostly dark anyways.
