Riots want LoL to be a sport like any other

But right now best players are training 16 hours per day already, active age for pro players is pretty short because of reaction requirements.

Doubt there harder trainings in any other sport.

I mean, LoL becomes too hardcore, and it limits players.

Actually, when it comes to be the best football or baseball players, they are practicing just as much. Their diets are restricted/controlled, daily checkups, and of course constant hours of training. Because they are celebrities, everything they do is work-related in some way, while video game sports are low-key and not recognized as much as traditional sports.

Don't forget there are a lot of smaller tournaments in League that aren't the LCS related stuff

I have a schoolmate who's a world triathlon champion. And triathlon means you need to train three kind of sports.

So what I can about his trainings:

  1. physical trainings are limited, because human body can overtrained;
  2. no gf restrictions, because he has much more free time - he even has kids!

Isn't smaller tournaments crowded only by challenger players anyway?

Hm, perhaps I was wrong or maybe because triathlon athletes have too train for 3 sports (aka spread among different trainings) he has less overall training to do as he can't specialize in any one field? I'm not sure, I probably was wrong on that.

Pro-players are allowed to have families as well, although I will admit that the age-window for pro-level gaming sports are significantly smaller than traditional sport's age-windows.

I have a friend that has a team of silvers/golds that participate in smaller tourneys, and while he's played with challengers (Bobby being the most recognizable) you can do decently well in them by simply not feeding. I'd like to participate in tourneys myself, but I'm primarily a solo player so rip :3

It is an interesting point that you've raised though, I'm not sure if there's anything Riot can do about it yet other than growing large enough to support multiple major teams for each region. The difference is that while Riot may be a multi-million (and maybe even billion) $ company, the NFL and MLB handle multiple hundred billion dollars a year which gives them a much larger platform to grow and support multiple functions at once. Riot simply doesn't have the funds to do that (hopefully they can in the future)

I respect this answer - usually people minus post if they have different point of view.

I meant that LoL is hardcore enough already. Most sports have much less time consuming training courses. I can't image how it can be more 'sport' and more 'competitive' than it's already. Maybe only if teams start use some pharmacy specially developed for esport.

I can be wrong, but I just want LoL to be a fun game, not lightspeed reaction trainer.

Ya, the boards are a brutal place man. I try to keep an open mind about things, 100% Slythion approved method of preventing tilt. Besides, very rarely is 1 opinion/preference 100% correct, there's always room to improve a point of view.

I think DQ is Riot's way of trying to make it more "sport-like" in the sense that it's promoting teamwork with other aspects of the game. Whether or not it's the right idea or if they are going about it the right way is for another conversation, but I think it's their plan to make it more of a "sport".

One of the main reason League is such a time-consuming sport to train for is that it's 95% mentality, decision making, and situation awareness with only about 5% actually execution of these decisions. Training/maintaining the mind at such a high caliber is much more difficult than doing so for the body

There's also the mission to make E-sports a respected sport along with traditional sports. Riot has done a lot in this field, especially the past year or so, heavily promoting E-sports to colleges and other organizations targetted to that age-group. Hell, you can get full-ride scholarships to many popular colleges for E-sport/League related teams, which I think is amazing :D

I always considered being on tilt as equivalent to being overtrained.

Maybe :) we won't know until professional medics will participate in LoL trainings.

And then you realize that part of why NA and EU are behind, is that they only practice 12-14 hours a day, and sometimes take time off to play other things, or go to the gym.
