it's not really that imbalanced, though. Even the absolute worst champion can be played with success.

Yah but the effort to pull that off is generally not worth it. I have seen Aatrox mains with 1000s of games who can barely break Gold ELO, and then we got the guys who have played darius 50 times and win almost every game cause welp darius is fair and fun.

someone not being able to climb out of a division is their own fault, not their champion. I've also seen people with hundreds of games on aatrox in diamond+. There's a galio main with like 4000 games that's in bronze. Just because you play a champion a lot, doesn't mean you're good with them.

They could start by balancing the items.

AP get zhonyas. A single fucking item. AD gets Edge of night, Maw, Mercurial.

They only make like 6 a year these days though. And if they stopped it's not even like the extra resources would magically make the game that much more balanced.
