Do people in mid, play better than average?

After playing all the positions, mid definitely seems the least vulnerable.

Top lane is an island and a lot of champions that lack mobility can be very easily camped if you don't play smart. Bot lane has the weakest tower and the entire team can easily rotate and just take your botlaners out. Differences in skill and coordination between the ADC and support are also very apparent here.

It's quite easy to play back in mid lane and the bushes aren't usually used by midlaners in the early game as a tactical advantage.

Just my 2 cents.

mid can influence the rest of the map easily, making it easier to carry games with similar to jungle.

Mid can carry their team easy and make amazing ganks since they can roam, especially if theyre mobile. Also vulnerable to ganks.

Bot is where the main source of attack damage will be, but theyre squishy, so they must be protected and be smart. usually can be one shot easy.

Top is usually where the tanks, juggernauts, etc are, they also can usually solo carry their team since they stay top a lot of the time so they can get ahead.

mage players are usually the weak links

Most mid laners are also Immobile so once you get on them they more then likely will be dead. Mid's are also prolly the 2nd squishiest person on your team. Mid also has to deal with Support roams making it 1v3, or top roams making it 1v3 or 1v4 (if support comes too. They are the center of attention in most games, which is like a double edged sword.

Mid's generally have to deal with so much more then top or bot because of this, they are conditioned that way. Mids also always have the ability to roam to its jungler on whatever jungle quadrant they're in. To attack or defend. Like bot Mids help with Dragon, like top Mids can help with Rift hereld or Baron.
