Still my favorite champion. I'd like to know the direction you're going with him.

Yep, Yorick is my favorite champion too. I read Xelnath's posts about his rework ideas years ago on the old boards, and I was not pleased at all to be honest.

  1. He planned to scrap every single ability on Yorick for a full deletion of his entire concept.
  2. He planned to replace the riders of the Apocalypse references with extremely generic ability names while giving his ghouls extremely corny names like "Inky" and "Stinky".
  3. He openly insulted every current Yorick player, calling us brainless and saying that we deliberately detract from the enjoyment of the game...
  4. He also demonstrated that he had no personal understanding of Yorick whatsoever, claiming absurd things like that he is useless after laning, when in reality Yorick's winrate peaks lategame at 40 minute.
  5. He planned to create a huge role change from a bruiser/fighter to a flimsy mage, which is completely against Yorick's identity. Here is a quote from Yorick's release journal: "Yorick isn’t some frail, weak Necromancer that just commands minions though – he’s a burly fighter who can dish out punishment on his own. This was done primarily to make his play more consistent (as frail summoners typically have really binary PvP gameplay on if their minions are up or not). Yorick can get into a fight and go toe-to-toe with enemies while commanding an ever-changing army of undead Ghouls."

If Xelnath is still in charge of the rework, he needs to communicate with the Yorick playerbase, or this is clearly going to go over worse than the last Cassiopeia/Mordekaiser reworks. When he last came to the boards, he seemed to be only interested in receiving feedback from non-Yorick players so that he could justify completely deleting Yorick. I hope he's actually been playing Yorick since we last heard from him and has done some actual research on the champ as well. You should never task a developer with reworking a champion that they have a vendetta against.

Yorick is actually a less oppressive, less selfish, less toxic version Darius during laning. Lategame, he has some of the best strategic depth out of all of the juggernaut/fighter class as he transitions into his supportive juggernaut niche. He deserves a Shen, Gangplank, or Darius sized mini-rework. He should not receive a Poppy or Sion sized rework. Most players, Xelnath included, don't realize what Yorick has going for him and so they don't understand what will be lost if he is deleted.

I really hope Xelnath has come a long way since his original rework ideas years ago. I really want to be optimistic about the rework, but I've had good reasons not to be so far.

I thought those ghoul names were already official? :O All I hope is that they keep to the brawler-summoner theme, and that they keep his design. I'm afraid of them turning him into some anime character so he can get lots of fanart rather than keeping his awesome abomination look

Their official names are War, Famine, and Pestilence - named after the riders of the apocalypse in the book of Revelations. Xelnath wants/wanted to rename them to Inky, Hungry, and Stinky...

I also love Yorick's current appearance, and I doubt he will be be given an anime appearance. That would be beyond even my pessimism. I am afraid of what they plan to do with his lore though. I consider Yorick's lore the best in the league universe. His story isn't some overdone power fantasy about how he's the avatar of destruction or some garbage. His lore actually has meaning to it, as it reminds us of our mortality and the importance of a life lived without regrets. It's bitter sweet and so refreshing.

Agreed. I've always seen Yorick as the closest thing to a common person in LOL. He doesn't care about the Shadow Isles or the politics of the world, he's just doing his job. Some of his sarcastic lines reflect that :P

Good news (sorta)

Reav3-Her design was done by SolCrushed. He is currently working on the Yorick VGU. Hope you end up enjoying that as much as Poppy. :)

So, if you liked Poppy's rework(visually) it should be fine.

At least he'll keep some shred of Yorick's identity

I really like Yorick. People really underestimate how difficult he is to play. He may not require twitch reflexes and a perfect internet connection, but he is definitely one of the most strategically diverse champions in the game. I consider him in the same category as champions like Singed, Shen, and maybe Bard in that regard. People call Yorick useless in the same way that people call Singed useless. If you don't play as or with Singed frequently, you probably won't understand what he is doing or why. A Singed and Yorick can hard-carry a game without anyone on either team realizing they were responsible for the win.
