I do love the Brand and Swain nerfs, but you have to remember Riot

If you're nerfing DFT later, you'll need to revert the Brand and Swain nerfs.

They won't revert the nerfs. This is literally Riot's iconic nerfing strategy when it comes to champions.

Remember when Feral Flare was a really big problem when used on Warwick, and it was only this item when Warwick became a problem? Riot nerfed Warwick in several key spots, and then proceeded to remove Feral Flare, leaving Warwick in the coffin for ages.

Remember when the original Cinderhulk was a really big problem when used on Sejuani, and it was only this item when Sejuani became a problem? Riot nerfed all of Sejuani's ability base damages, and her base stats - then nerfed Cinderhulk, which she is still in the coffin from to this day.

Remember when Kassadin was a problem post-rework because of the new AP Item changes? Riot nerfed Kassadin first, then nerfed the items afterwards which made Kassadin in to the garbage assassin he is now until late game.

Brand & Swain have both been in meh/terrible spots for roughly two seasons in a row, and now that Deathfire Touch is great on them because of their DoT's - Riot's nerfing them. Shortly after, I can almost guarantee that Riot will end up nerfing the ratios and base damage on Deathfire Touch, and Brand & Swain will be even worse than they were before.

Exactly. Swain W isn't even a DoT and they nerfing it. They are not even trying to fix the main problem again...

Valexfor2 votes

They are hitting the problem at its base, swain's w is the carrier of his DoT, withouth that, you can just get out of range and block 90% of it, but with a 2 sec root, it's hard to move away once caught (still it's pretty easy to avoid, so I don't see why nerf it...)

They are not fixing the problem. They are delaying it into lategame. Also what about all other DoT? Morgana 2 sec snare(3sec at max range) with her W. Fizz DoT, malazhar E, W and R? Nerfing swain wont fix the main problem. Want a fix? DoT should work with the mastery just like single ability do. Riots should work on this and stop nerfing champs when the problem is not the champs but the synergy of the masterie with some abilities.

Like Riots couldve nerfed trynd and yasuo to the ground too, but they did fix the main problem, why cant they do the same with DFT?

And Swain W is easy to dodge on a 18 CD.

Valexfor2 votes

They don't want to nertf his DoT but simply his ability to carry out too much damage too easily. They don't want him to actually deal less damage, but they also don't want him to take just 1 point in the skill and go full damage since the beginning.

The Yasuo/Trynd problem was that if gave them more than intended by subbing for lane sustain giving something it was not supposed to give, this time the problem is that the damage is too high, but it does not give those champs something it's not supposed to be used for, it doesn't give them more sustain/mana/cc like WB gave those champs lane sustain, they can't nerf it or it would be too weak on those who can't "abuse" it. The problem might seem similiar, but it's actually different at the core. I am not with rito on these nerfs, they are totally nonsensical (both brand and swain have a hard time hitting since their skills are slow) but, I can understand nerfing the duration of nevermore instead of the damage, at least you can still kill the enemy withouth it if he screws, if they did nerf his damage you wouldn't be able to even punish him.

Yeah i understand all this, what i dont like it a snare on a 18 sec cooldown, easy to dodge, for 1 sec. Come on, at least remove some mana cost, some CD, or i dont know. 18 secs CD was for a 2 sec snare : High risk if missed, high reward if landed. Now it just dumb lol.

Valexfor1 votes

Like I said, I'm with you on that, Swain didn't need that nerf, his mana cost are high and even though he has a strong mana sustain with passive, his last hitting is awful. I just tried to understand rito's twisted logic... he was perfectly fine without nerfs...

Warwick and Kassadin garbage..... AHAHAHAHA

Checked Remikaze: Gold V (gratz, really) In ranked: You have played WW just once You have never played Kassadin In last 10 matches you haven't fought nor had on your side either Kassasin or Warwick

... Conclusion. Be quiet if you know jack shit.

Checked you: Low Silver MMR You have never played either Kassadin or Warwick in Ranked ???????????? I could play Kassadin first time in Ranked like I did with Warwick and could carry. He's an even more tanky Diana with an escape who is super strong as long as he doesnt get wrecked early game and people call him weak? Interesting. Not having met Kassadin or Warwick in the last 10 games doesn't really say anything when i play more than 2-3 games per day atm.

Dalanin4 votes

kassadin tankier than diana? what

I Miss Cannon1 votes

Kassadin can rush RoA without problems, Diana can't. That's the difference.

What does rank have to do with anything. He is not wrong about WW getting nerfed because of feral flare AND the devour red smite. He is also not wrong about what happened to sejunai due to cinderhulk. Just because he is gold v doesn't mean every single thing he says is invalid. You should learn too be quiet if your only argument is ranking unrank scrub.

Saianna3 votes

Rank has nothing to do with it.

I said "Gold V (gratz, really)" because I myself am low silver. There was no hidden joke or sarcasm.

:|

Right now Warwick is garbage. He used to be super-strong. But he is not at this moment.

See the difference? jeez.

EDIT: some people have seriously some problems with ranks.. And to think I'm defending all of those who get that "noob rank stfu hue"...

I agreed with everything until you said "Brand & Swain have both been in meh/terrible spots for roughly two seasons in a row"

No. Swain hasn't been in even a "meh" spot. He's been in a good spot. He hasn't been picked as much, but his win rates are high. He's currently number 11 on op.gg, and he's always done fairly well. He was actually pretty strong.

Swain has been strong for a while now, there's no denying that.

I can't speak for Brand because I don't know.

Enosetc4 votes

brand needed nerfs before dft

LegacyDAP10 votes

Not really. He wasn't played too often, but he was a good pick overall. Now he just destroys all phases of the game, because he can keep DFT proc'd on the whole enemy team for about 7+ seconds

MrWasjig2 votes

And they're nerfing the wrong thing, AGAIN! Instead of taking care of the root of the problem they're taking care of the symptoms. Sigh It's Cinderhulk all over again

support brand was the stupid thing to face next to soraka bot

doesn't really matter anyway since he's getting nerfed

I can't fucking believe they're nerfing Brand. What logic is there to that? Are we gonna nerf every champ that gives shields to other champs now?

Have you tried playing against brand support? It's so incredibly overbearing its ridiculous. It makes S3 Zyra look balanced

Voidac1 votes

I main Brand and do take him support a lot. You know who beats him? Tanks, other AP caster supports, and just knowing how to dodge a Q. I've won against people. People have won against me. If you're good, it won't be too much of a problem for you.

Bijorn3 votes

Brand doesn't need a nerf. They increased the mana cost of his W, which already had a very high cost to begin with. This change is extremely surprising and a tad upsetting for us Brand players

Kitten of Evil3 votes

As someone who likes playing Brand, I want to point out that nobody ASKED for a Deathfire mastery, and nobody asked for it to work so well with DoT mages. Maybe instead of nerfing a champion who received no direct buffs and who not long ago was a risky pick (during the League of Assassins he was virtually unplayable), Riot should address the Deathfire mastery first and see if he is still too strong.

Biffolo1 votes

And then every other champ who benefits from hit but isn't overpowered gets nerfed by it as well.

Frost the Reaper2 votes

I agree, they should just nerf DFT, or better yet give us our old masteries back until they have the entire thing fixed.

rampaging poet1 votes

They won't know if they have the entire thing fixed if everyone uses the old masteries. Testing these kind of large-scale changes before they "count" in the next season proper is exactly what the preseason is for.

ProfDrDeath2 votes

They'd have to revert the nerfs only if they removed DFT. However, just nerfing it doesn't necessarily warrant reverting the nerfs - Brand was rather strong pre-preseason, as well, due to the changes to Rylai's a while back (40% for 1 second on AoE, 20% for his passive ticking afterwards).

Also, the mana cost increase on Pillar has less to do with DFT, I think, and more with the buffs to item 1056 . That item now gives Brand 4 Mp5 at level 1, +0.3/lvl, up from 3 at all times. And considering that one of Brand's more common builds is 2 Doran's into Rylai's...

runedara2 votes

Sejuani and Sion would disagree

Casri2 votes

Personally I would prefer Riot to balance Masteries, Runes and Items before they even touch champion balance in the preseason, because things are still all over the place right now, anyway...

I agree that the Swain nerfs are unjustified, especially for a champion who hasn't even been that highly picked, despite his perceived synergy with DfT. It's not like they are even hitting his DoTs/sustained dmg here which are the 'problem', a CC duration nerf (forcing him to max W second, leaving Q with abysmal damage) is incredibly harsh and unwarranted.

Brand however has been crowding out bot-lane (and more recently mid lane) for a few months now, and maintaining an impressive win rate while doing so; it's not like he only became popular with Deathfire Touch, he was doing really well before the masteries were changed. People trying to dispute this are in denial, Brand has been having an impact for a long time now.

The problem I have with the Brand nerfs is that they aren't hitting him where they ought to be. This is only going to hit his mid-lane performance, not botlane because support Brand gets to buy item 2301 or item 3092 which gives a ton of mana regen. It will just pigeon-hole Mid lane Brand into getting Double Doran's/Morellonomicon sooner.

Instead what they should do if they want to meaningfully nerf Brand is any ONE of these:

  • Hit his base mana regen. He has the mana regen of a support early game (8 per 5) rather than that of most mages (6 per 5), buff his scaling regen to compensate
  • Lower his base movement speed. 340 M/S is uncharacteristically high considering his range, it provides him with a bit too much safety, give him the ZyraAzir treatment.
  • Have his Q stun scale with CHAMPION level, like Annie rather than ability level (hitting Brand Supp much harder than Mid) or just reduce the duration flatly from 2s to 1.5s
  • Increase the delay/reduce the radius of W, meaning he has to move slightly closer to ensure he hits with it

They will nerf DFT too. Actually only DoT mages will be suffer from this nerf.

Deathfire Touch [Ferocity- Tier 6] [Damage changed] Base Damage changed to [8 + 50% bonus AD & 20% AP over 4 seconds] from [6 + 50% bonus AD & 20% AP over 3 seconds] [Duration changed] Burn Duration for Single target increased to 4 seconds from 3 seconds. Burn Duration for AoE increased to 2 seconds from 1.5 seconds Burn Duration for damage over time decreased to 1 second from 1.5 seconds.

Ez dePaz3 votes

Actually everyone will suffer from that as they made the dot slower without buffing the damage (2 dmg is nothing). This hurts the DoT mages a ton as the damage per tick is 33% lower. AoE and Single targeted spells still get lower dps.

DFT is only good on DoT mages. So here we are nerfing 2 DoT mages cause they're abusing our shitty masteries we never bothered thinking out. oh yeah we're also nerfing out shitty masteries too.

Spoofghoul1 votes

item 1054 actually works vs dot's

hue

Buy it vs brand and spam laugh as his passive and dft do nothing the first 6 lvl's

he relies on snowballing and you can shut that down 100% with 1 frikkin cheap item rofl

I had item 1054 with the tough skin mastery and 600 hp brand should have done 12 damage per second for 4 seconds with his passive but instead he did 2 damage with it so it works ive tested it. Meanwhile dft did 0 damage for the first few levels 1-6 and the same for potion of corruption.

Soooo i call bullshit on Brand op

People are just dumb and can't think harder then their farts to come up with counter options

Aitikian1 votes

If Dorans Shield is soaking up brand passive and dft this should be reported as a bug.

Spoofghoul1 votes

It is not a bug

It blocks 8 damage from single target spells and attacks.

Last i checked all these dots are singletarget spells.

Aitikian1 votes

DOT's are affects, the spells do an initial flat damage base to start, spell indicating cast, each tick is not a separate spell therefore the shield should only block the spell not the affect.

Phuc Dat Bich1 votes

Brand and SWAIN are broken

The fact that brand atm can go support and outdamage the mid laner MEAN SOMETHING

Both of the champions and the mastery for Dot damage need nerf

AND NO nerfing a mastery to the ground because 2 champions abuse it IS WRONG

Brand and swain need nerf i know that you all bronzies here want to abuse free elo champions to fix your bronze MMR for season 6 and you think the chaos of preseason would offer that but you need to understand that you dont deserve higher than bronze simple because you cant play thegame so stop pretending that you know about brand and swain when you are bronze

TheVoidBringer1 votes

DFT nerfs are already on the PBE, thank you for playing, game over.

No seriously, I'm a swain main and I just reacted the same way as you.

well, i think, in theory, brand's ult should not be able to bounce on his own minions. This is lame.

They are nerfing DFT on PBE...

...aaaand Swain and Anivia nerfs are still there. What a surprise. Why can't Riot take it slowly and see how they work out with just one nerf, like they did with RIven last time? Oh, that's right. These champions aren't flashy and popular enough, therefore they aren't selling skins - unlike Riven or Yasuo.

Remember Warwick? How he was OP because of Devourer? Then Devourer got nerfed. And Warwick got nerfed. And Devourer got nerfed some more. Now Warwick is nowhere to be seen - guess who is about to share the same fate?
