Garen is litterally poor mans darius.

Darius litterally does everything Garen does but better. Garen spins to win, yah well so does darius only darius is much higher damage. Garen has 1 cc and a 30% movement speed increase. Darius has a massive point and click slow as well as an AOE pull. Garen has a point and click execute nuke, that can do true damage. Darius has a point and click execute nuke that resets upon kill.

Like I can't think of any reason to ever choose garen over darius. Garen needs a small rework.

Garen:

  • Better long term sustain

  • Higher defenses, defensive steroid

  • More reliable damage, not so telegraphed

  • Higher AoE damage

  • More mobile, less prone to being kited (Q slow removal)

  • Higher burst damage

Darius:

  • Better burst sustain

  • More overall damage

  • Easier to kite

  • More, stronger CC

  • Ult reset

They're kind of like Fox and Falco, from Smash. Fox is faster and has more damage over time, while Falco is a little slower but hits a lot harder in one hit -- despite them having nearly identical movesets. So, while they're similar, they do different things. Same applies to Garen and Darius.

garen can kill squishies far faster than Darius and is better at shutting down fed opponents

Don't you think that while Garen gets defensive boosts in an ability to be tanky, that Darius just gets super high defensive base stats to compensate for no defensive ability in his kit is kinda... weird? Well, I guess he does have a heal, which is defensive.

I mean, that's not a problem (except when Darius gets two offensive items and is still a tanky muthafuka, at least to the poor little burst based champion I may be playing, because ADC's would probably shred him), but it is strange, don't you think? Darius is the lane bully, but his base health starts lower with better growth, which does help him snowball harder off of level advantage, but means he's actually a little weaker early (probably, not sure when the health outscales - Darius has almost 200 more base health than Garen). Well, weaker defensive - wise. His early is one of the best due to no one being able to kill him before he gets five stacks (I believe, a Renekton may prove me wrong) and almost no one having the ability to kite him and juke his Q blade. Although juking it is easier before he gets boots+phage.

No, because Garen isn't reliant on playing around low HP to make his healing significant, and he has a far easier time leaving a fight than Darius to regenerate and go back in later. When Darius goes in, he's usually going to stay in until he or his enemies are dead. He also requires far more time to reach his power spike than Garen, who only needs to get close enough to dump his cooldowns on the squishiest target he can reach and then run away and wait for them to come back up. Of course, that goes both ways; Darius is able to actually put a dent in tanks even with just a Cleaver, whereas Garen usually won't do much to them by virtue of being a burst champion with fairly high cooldowns.

Darius is also able to poke or force engages (against those without a good dissengage or no directional dash they can use to dodge Darius's Q) with his Q blade. Yes, that Maokai may have just dodged you Q blade, but now, he's right where you want him - in front of you.

Also - Garen Q doesn't really have a cooldown. He gets on someone relatively squishy, they're gonna die to his 2 Q's, full E and R, if he gets on them, of course. Garen's Q with just 20% means he only needs to waste two seconds after his E before his Q comes up again.
