Bard will be a colossal failure as a support

You can't possibly try to tell me that a support DESIGNED to roam the map and leave the carry/marksmen to fight 1 v 2 against an actual support/marksmen team is going to be praised. It doesn't work for any other support ever, why would it work for Bard? During the lane phase he's either going to be leaving the carry to fend for themselves, or he's just sitting behind them spamming health relics and unable to do much else.

Jungler, sure. But a support??

I'm sure going Bard Support and playing him as intended (ie actually going to find things) will get people reported, it gets everyone else who tries it reported.

He won't necessarily be an every game pick. They may have designed a Roamer specifically to re-introduce roaming (a strat that was in place long before our current J/1/1/2 meta) but that doesn't mean it will work for every team comp. They even specified that he will work better with champs who can hold their own 1v2 for short periods of time. Plus, that 1v2 time will give the bot ADC an xp/level advantage.

Aside from Cait (who they mentioned) I also see Sivir doing well. She can safely chill in the back and protect herself from some engages (Leona, etc) via her spell shield, and her wave clear is strong enough with her W (and even Q) that she won't lost much farm to the tower.

I've played since Skarner was released.

Since then I also haven't seen a support able to leave bot until the entire laning system becomes irrelevant without being reported for it: "OMFG why won't you go bot report this noob won't help me!"

So you tell me?

Even Riot's example of Bard roaming from bot to mid to top revolves around the solo carry stuck 2 v 1ing alone not getting steamrolled.

Well, the only important question about Bard is this: "Bard is going to be strong AT LEAST AS Thresh, or not?".

Everything else is irrilevant.

I have not yet seen the patter in which chimes appear. So I cannot say how much will Bard have to roam.

Still it is pretty common for support to roam in certain times of the game. Id say that he will collect little chimes in lane but later he coud scale pretty well.

I actually like it, it keeps him from getting too strong too early. And that would be a problem in lane.

So what youre saying.... is that the support should meekly follow behind their ADC master. demure and silent? I highly doubt that any roaming bard will roam top, but its highly likely that they'l roam mid if the ADC is either pushed to their tower, or is handling the enemy tower nicely.

The support belongs to the team, not just to the ADC. If you cant survive on your own for a minute or two, you should re-learn how to play your champion.

I'm not saying that at all... I'm saying Riot has brutally enforced that meta for 2/3+ years now and it's just not gonna change overnight.

I've tried to roam plenty of times, carries can't handle it, get wrecked, all the supports fault for not being there. Release a champion that basically functions by roaming, and what happens? Suddenly they'll just all improve?

Nope, they'll get steamrolled anyway and report you for "leaving them to die". Why should I put up with getting banned because supports have been enforced into the carries slave?

Hell load up a game of Blind Pick right this second, call support, and go roaming. Your ADC will go apeshit and want to report you within the first few minutes.

Probably because I don't play ranked, and barely anyone actually reports in Blind cause they simply can't be bothered (which is why it's such a cesspool).

If I did my anti-meta nature would've got me permabanned a long time ago.

But I don't see the point of Bard if roaming gets your ADC killed due to "hold my hand" meta, and not roaming gives you half a champion.

you aren't supposed to roam when your ADC cannot fend for himself in the first place. You start roaming when your ADC can survive a 1v2 or he's far enough ahead that he can deal with a 1v2 lane for a while
