Why are people still defending Ahri?

If you're willing to ignore any solid points people are willing to make, how about you look at her popularity/pick/ban. Win rate of 53,55%, #6 of her role Pick rate of 18,32%, #1 of her role

I get that you're trying to convince us that she's a skill champion, and I'm sure you're right, but when this many people play her and a champion still maintains a win rate this high (Example, Vayne) there's usually something beyond the people playing the champion going on. In most cases: The champion is overpowered.

Reasons why she would have a combined stat total this high? The main reason: she's too safe. She can be picked into just about any situation and survive it too. This is because: She has too many tools to prevent ganks, including MS on her Q, her charm and her triple-dash ultimate. She can't get poked down because of her passive. She has plenty of waveclear. She has plenty of range in laning, and the only champions who outrange her either have easily exploitable weak spots (Azir, etc.) or are siege mages who are supposed to outrange her (Ziggs, Xerath, etc.)

It's too difficult to punish this champion for making a mistake, because this champion has too many tools to cover up the mistakes. And yes, there are definitely champions who waveclear better than Ahri, there are also champions who have more sustain than Ahri, but there are NO champions who are this much of an all-rounder; a champion who excels at everything.

I sincerely hope Riot will considering adding more exploitable weak spots into her kit that aren't limited to just counterpicking, but also reward the player for playing well against this, currently, very difficult to impossible to counter champion.

Ahri is pretty irrelevant now with all the broken bruisers running around. Assassins in general are garbage tier.

MCBiggah991 votes

How is that correct in any way? She still has the safety she used to have (to get away from bruisers, if you get what I'm hinting at), and she's a mage who can assassinate squishies, which is different from a pure assassin.

The issue is, and always has been, she can't EFFICIENTLY fight tank, and all bruisers are hyper damage tanks now. Yes, she can snowball super hard and with all the bruisers she has them on her team as well which does help diminish her weakness, but that's just a meta call. Heim has had over a 53.55% win rate for MONTHS, but he is not inherently broken.

He doesn't share Ahri's insane pick rate though, which is the main thing I was hinting at. A champion can have a high win rate, but high win rate paired with high pick rate usually spells disaster, because it displays champion dominance which goes beyond player performance. AFAIK, Ahri's win-to-pick ratio hasn't fluctuated all that much either.

They only defend ahri because of the charm and... its ahri

There is an all-rounder far better than Ahri ever has been.

Meet Yorick the meanest all-rounder in the game.

MCBiggah991 votes

First of all, Yorick's a top-laner so it's difficult to compare. Second of all, Yorick falls off when teamfighting which is different from Ahri. Third of all, Yorick doesn't have Ahri's gank safety.

Yorick isn't just a toplaner though. He can played in any lane, or the jungle as well. He also is downright oppressive in all lanes, in nearly every matchup he is in.

As a jungler I really, really, really hate ganking an Ahri lane. Her Q gives movement speed, she has CC, and she has 4 flashes. It's way more annoying than trying to gank any other mid laner in the game. She's way too safe.

I tried to be as civil as I could, please try to explain to me how her numbers paired with my arguments do not prove that Ahri is too strong.

Just because a champion is good at what they do doesn't mean they're too strong.

MCBiggah991 votes

I tried to explain how she isn't just "good at what she does", but she's good at everything, that's what makes her too strong.

ReshiKillim1 votes

Not really, there're champs that out do her at everything. There are a few she can't escape from even with three dashes and a flash, because they screw her in under a second.

I beg to differ, no champion is an amazing all-rounder as much as Ahri is.

I think most people could benefit from actually playing the champions they call "OP", they will find out real quickly how wrong they are. Ahri is a perfect example.

Being decent in 9/10 situations is much better than being amazing in 1/10 situations.

You made a sound and accurate argument, I think people are down voting you because of this little statement.

To safe, to much sustain and good at everything. This sums up ahri (and fun to play).

Her sustain already got nerfed quite recently though.

Well, Ahri's lack of a big glaring weakness, besides fragility like every carry, doesn't mean she doesn't have a lot of limitations. A few games of playing Ahri would show a lot people complaining about her what they're missing to exploit about her kit.

  • Her mana costs are high enough early to limit her sustain, waveclear, and harass. I assure you she cannot sustain away the damage from a seige mage like Ziggs unless she's dodging the large majority of his Qs. Nor is she able to hold out forever against getting her wave shoved at her repeatedly by a mage like Malzahar.
  • Aside from her Q, she lacks trading power. Charm is expensive and does little damage, and being stunned with no follow up is no threat. Her w does not have the range.
  • She's not as safe as some people are claiming pre6. The Q mobility gets her about 200 units. Charm still causes enemies to move towards you, its not as strong as a stun in this situation. Many other midlaner's have dashes, which are far more effective at safety. An Ahri who stays on her half of midlane is safe, but if she overextends she's definately gankable.
  • If she blows her ult to escape a gank, she just used her ult. That's a minute and a half of no pressure and possible repeat ganks.
  • Her sustain colors her orb green. It's a good time to pressure an Ahri and see if you can make her waste it. She'll want to throw it on the minions, not you.
  • Her power spike is midgame, and its based on pick play and ganks. Ward coverage is naturally excellent against her.
  • Theres a 1 second cooldown between her dashes on her ult.
  • She has short ranges on a considerable amount of her damage. Ahri has to either land a long ranged charm or go to an opponent to be effective. And if she comes to you you should be able to lock her down.

I see people post things like, "Ahri can just jump into close range to land her charm" and it really shows ignorance of her. Anyone whose played the champion a bit learns to never do that unless they're already sure they'll win. Because you put yourself into harm's way by doing so, expend your biggest resources, and she's not likely to 100-0 and not even guaranteed to hit. You will feed if you do that against competent opponents, they will counterattack and kill you.

The situation where Ahri does do that in is usually when she has a numbers advantage. She knows even if she misses she'll win anyway, because its a gank. And this is also where I suspect the complaining about her just using w and r comes from. Even if she misses, so long as you have to keep running because of her allies, she'll still chase you with her ult and repeat cast w until you're dead. The other situation she does it in is when she has Zhonya's and is baiting the counterattack.

Ultimately, the best way to fight an Ahri is to play around objectives, and prefferably get her to come to you. There are complaints about her safety, and it's true an Ahri that doesn't want to die isn't going too. But so is someone sitting on the fountain. Her damage is pretty average for a midlaner, the burst is lower than other assassins and the AoE smaller than most mages. Compared to champions like Viktor, it's nothing.

Those weaknesses are not accurately reflected in the numbers then. She seems to just be a pick you can always fall back on no matter what, and she seems to be a pick which does averagely at the very least in most if not all cases. When speaking weak and strong we are bound to get into the field of semantics, but when we talk pure numbers, on paper she is very strong.
