How come when I ranked up it was suddenly impossible to win?

Zuil·11/7/2017, 6:22:02 AM·12 votes·1,047 views

So I decided to make one last push for gold and I managed to get to Silver 2 and out of the 6 games I had there, I lost 5 nearly impossible to win games. I don't want to be one of those guys blaming my team mates but I've never thought I would get a Garen support, or go 3 games in a row where both my mid and top laner give up 5 kills each in 12-15 minutes and almost all my games were lost by 20+ kills. Is this just my shit poor luck or is there some MMR thing going on because I was able to cruise through Silver 3 winning 6 straight to get me to series and won my series in 3.

It wasn't me.

Riot has implemented a system where the more you care about winning a ranked game the worse your team is. I don't know how they have done it, but I have found it to be true since season 1.

Don't try to push your rank up on literally the last 2 days unless you're ready for the worst people ever

The closer it is to the season ending the higher the Ranked population gets which includes all kinda of casual players who don't care if you win, trolls, and ragers who are easily tilted because they aren't at their desired rank yet. Its extremely volatile and I see complaints about this kind of thing every year.

Dude, queues have been shit all this last week. But, man, have they been magnified today.

Ha, had the exact same thing (except i was going for silver and had just promoted to b2) won my 1st game after getting b2, then had 2 absolute shitfests in a row w/ teams that fed and teamates who were clearly tilted and raging.

I get that MMR is the best way to run matchmaking in a game like league but good god the system needs some tweaking and rebalancing B/c matchmaking feels REAAAAAALY bad a lot of the time.

Id say 70% of my games are one sided (35% for my team 35% for the other team) and only the remaining 30% are close games that could go either way and I really hope thats not what riot is aiming for. Wouldn't you wan't a majority of someones games to be a balanced match?

Maybe pure badluck, but you have to keep something in mind.

It's only less than 24 hours left until the season ends. Not only that, starting from about 1 month before the season ends (probably around when Riot release Victorious teaser), a HUGE number of players decided to make final pushes, and a large number especially from silvers, make their final push to gold (just like what you're doing now).

Therefore these possibly desperate people may not be good enough to deserve gold; people who usually play ARAMs or normal blind/draft, who are casual players (don't play much ranked), so you have to keep in mind that there will be more players like this coming to your ranked games around these times.

(I'm not saying that you're these casual players who are desperate and can't climb, but note that these players exist and it may make your games more difficult)

You have made the mistake of trying to "push to gold" near the end of season where all the desperate people hire boosters or duo with a booster to gain gold, as you can imagine this royally screws over match making even more then usual.

NEVER make a push for gold at end of season, do it mid season or late mid season but never ever do it at this point in time.

It's mostly luck -- that's definitely happened to me. But I do think that towards the end of the season people do troll much more.

BUT to be honest the things you mention aren't that weird. Garen support? Dodge. Mid and top both feeding? If one of them is feeding, the other can't help them with roaming, which definitely doesn't help, and the jungler will probably abandon both lanes completely since ganks are likely to end up in a double kill for the enemy team.

RookPusher11/7/2017, 6:12:44 PM2 votes

I guess I'm not sure why you never expect a Garen support unless you believed those bourgeois fairy tales of "if you're good, you'll climb!"

There's 10 bans now. Playing a champ that's cancer is harder. And we have autofill. You can't one-trick like you used to. And Riot does not care about the below-Gold people.

Sounds like luck of the draw to me.

silver elo is barrier where a million and million players tried to get out... really difficult.... especially for player who can carry solo.

Sounds like a typical day of ranked. You should be glad you got those teammates after you had already ranked up.

ButterBladesX11/7/2017, 8:24:34 AM1 votes

ugh same thing happened to me. got to s2 and just kept getting moron doing weird picks. now back in s3 for about the 10th time

Escheton11/7/2017, 8:27:19 AM1 votes

S2 is the baseline. So you also get people that just popped lvl 30 and hit ranked. Ow, and end of year trolls resigned in not getting gold that mess shit up for others.

Diggyy11/7/2017, 8:45:34 AM1 votes

I was suppose to get gold befor the season was over go to my s1 promos minding my mmr was low so it took me 6-8 games just to get to s1 promos and i lost 3 games straight into my promos do to 3 afk's in a rowe then i went all the way back down to s5 do to tilt now im s3 the rank system is bullshit i believe that if a team player int or does horribly wrong like horribly even if their not intentionally wrong if 3 or more people vote that that person done horribly wrong should lose more than just 16-20 lp they should lose more and wont to focus more on winning and objectives or listen to a team mate than get toxic and throw the game

Ðunhill 711/7/2017, 10:25:13 AM1 votes

In champ select check teammates op ggs and dodge when you see something bad, also if you get a troll in champ select just dodge. -3 , -10 lp for dodging or -20 for losing? Also if you dodge you dont lose mmr which matters more than LP. This is how you avoid games that cant be won. If you cant climb its your fault.

Bisaknosp11/7/2017, 6:11:10 PM1 votes

riot forces you to play with noobs/trolls/whatever you want to call them

NTrumpWeTrust11/7/2017, 8:18:46 PM1 votes

Moral of the story, don't play end of season ranked

You Will Learn11/8/2017, 12:56:45 AM1 votes

I honestly didn't see a problem. It took me one week to get my main from Platinum V to Diamond V and today I duoed with someone on this smurf account going 5 wins and 1 loss. He won his promos to Platinum V during that time. Both on my main and my smurfs I don't experience this phenomenon. You're just tilted. You get carried for a few games, lose some more and think it's all based on luck or some algorithm. When I was doing my end of season push on my main, I never lost more than 3 games in a row and pretty much went through it with a 70% winrate.
