Kalista needs to stop trying to be three different champions at the same time.

If this champion is to ever be balanceable something has to fucking go. It's not even one particular thing that's wrong with her, it's that she does too much.

Kalista and Azir are going to be in this state until they receive a rework, unfortunately.

I thought she was just trying to be Kalista myself.

I think they're onto something with focusing Kalista on her spear stacking and using Rend as her main form of damage, it makes her extremely unique as an ADC (I guess Twitch is kinda similarish? But not?), and I'd be willing to give up other parts of her kit to drive that home. I could care less about her W, it's such a throwaway slot. Her ult is trickier, because it's part of what makes her her, so it may need to stay (as much as I dislike having such an ability that's 100% dependent on others), but her passive can take a long hike off a short pier if that will allow them to balance her. Just tack on a directional hop as part of Q, and replace the passive with something else.

The passive is significantly more iconic and champion defining than her ult or rend.

That's highly debatable. A lot of champions have mobility as they attack. Her ultimate is extremely iconic, and the most unique aspect of her kit. Furthermore, her ultimate isn't as unhealthy for the game as a passive that can basically invalidate melee enemies. At a certain point, you have to step back and look at the kit and realize what the problem areas are. Her passive is one of the many problem areas, because it's absolutely free mobility with the only setback being she can't cancel auto-attacks, and something that can trigger with every attack she fires. I don't think it should have ever existed in it's current state, and I think it, combined with her utility, is what has caused her to be such a terror in organized play.
