There's no reason that Team Builder and the new Draft have to be exclusive

Probably the shortest thread post i'll ever make, but I'm at school so I can't elaborate. I don't quite understand why Riot is removing Team Builder as a Queue when its function doesn't threaten or even fill the same function as the new Champion Select. the new C-S is clearly intended for ranked and draft use as a way to settle role disputes before games start by allowing players agency in what roles they can and want to play. Team builder on the other hand is a slower queue aimed at letting you choose exactly who and what you want to play, and is more casual in nature, hence why its a blind pick.

There is no reason these two have to be mutually exclusive, and the decision to trash an already fairly new implimentation is baffling to me. Riot i would understand if there was more overlap, but this feels more like TB: The draft edition, than an outright replacement for Team Builder

Personally I believe TB queue times would be unbearable with the new champ select. All because if I am going support I want to pick that champ based on my team comp. if other support players feel the same then Champ Select is the better option.

Without supports willing to play in TeamBuilder and the lack of an equivalent "fill" option then I would be led to believe the matching time in TeamBuilder would increase.

This is hypothetical and I could very well be wrong but I believe their is some truth to my assumptions.

I will say this though. The disabling of TeamBuilder could just be to encourage people to test out the new champ select as a way of gathering bug and matching making statistics. Perhaps they will re-enable it later but unlikely.

A rioter did post that they would eventually release a quicker ban free version of CS which may address many issues people have with the loss of TeamBuilder.

Team builder bypasses Champ select however. Its not a draft, so pick intent and banning aren't a thing. In team builder you literally pre-select your team, and then queue up with the champions and the composition you want. The process definitely takes more time, and always will because of the discrepancies in role selections, but It remains a queue option where you are 100% guaranteed to get the champ and role you want, so the time is worth it, assuming you're willing to wait for the stars to align correctly. A fill option added to the team builder queue would also help alleviate some of that pressure, but it would conflict a little with the current way you pick champions in TB's queue

Right but there was always one thing wrong with TeamBuilder: the lack of supports.

Perhaps in the modified champ select they mentioned releasing you'll get to pick your primary champ/role and secondary champ/role.

Down the line maybe they'll find a decent mix between the systems, but for the moment there's very little reason to take it down. It adds a bit of variation to the queue system, and Let's be honest here, if there's one thing that league desperately needs its variation, because seriously guys we've been playing one map over and over for almost 6 years, give or take a visual update or two.

TB adds options currently that other queues don't, even if its not effective at it. Until they release their revamp'd TB, I don't see why it can't exist alongside the new C-S

they trashed teambuilder because the new queue is teambuilder with bans and they are working to implement it into blind pick in the next couple months

IMO this really doesn't even address most of the issues people have with team builder being gone. It's sort of close in the way that you get to pre pick your preferred positions, but it allows zero ability to choose your team, or leave if you don't like the team that you get.

They can try and put a band-aid on top of this but it's not going to fix the issue.

but it allows zero ability to choose your team, or leave if you don't like the team that you get.

And how many people have been complaining about that part being missing?

None of these complainers miss the "team" aspects of "team" builder, they miss the "me, myself, and I" aspects of "team" builder.

Sure, a lot of the complaints are about not being able to have your role 100% of the time. I miss that too, I'm a very casual gamer, I'm good at a select few things and if I'm pigeonholed into something I don't really want to do because of this new system, then I'm not enjoying the game, and I'd might as well not play.

I've seen a fair few posts about people like me who loved almost every aspect of team builder. Maybe riot doesn't care about us casuals or whatever, or maybe there's just not enough of us for them to be able to cater to us like they do the larger majority of their playerbase, but for someone who plays this game casually, team builder was sort of the dream. You can play who you want, where you want, you can choose what team you play with, and if you don't want to play with them, you absolutely don't have to. Leave the team and find a new one shortly, without any punishment. Maybe most people miss only the selfish parts, but for me, I have no interest playing rift when I can't choose who I get to play with. People complained of long queue times in TB, but I personally never found them to be long enough to dissuade me from playing it, and the teams I got were generally 100% more pleasant, because everyone was doing what they wanted.

The type of people I encountered in TB and the kind I've encountered in draft pick in the past are an entirely different group of people, and it's painfully obvious now that draft is my only choice besides blind pick. TB was a very stress free way to play the game, and as someone who gets stressed quite easily, I appreciated that a lot. I think people forget that not everyone wants to be great at every role, or wants to be super competitive about it, and trade bans and counterpick and all that, but that's essentially what they're telling people they have to do if they want to continue enjoying the game. Regardless, it's a moot point, and I'll either adjust to this new way, or stop playing the game entirely, because I've yet to have a positive experience in the new champ select. I'll keep trying, because I do love the game, it's the people that I have to play with sometimes that ruin it for me, and like I said, TB and draft pick offer an entirely different set of people when you're playing. At least that's been my experience.

Team Builder stayed casual just because it wasn't successful. It was intended to be competitive, and just didn't manage to solve the problems it wanted to solve, so it never replaced the original draft. The new C-S is just a better way to solve the problems Team Builder was trying to solve 2 years ago.

Now, you may make the case that Team Builder has evolved past its original purpose, and is used by people who just want to play something specific, but it's still half-bad even at that. For instance, you can't build a Yasuo Knock Up comp in Team Builder, or a Protect the Kog comp. You rely on pure luck to not be hard-countered/hard-countering your lane opponent, which is never fun. You can't use it to try off-meta picks, because you will be kicked. Etc.

It was intended to lead into a more competitive system down the line, but overall the system itself was made by and large as a precursor to what became the current system. This is more or less what team builder draft was suppose to be in the first place, and that's part of the reason they feel its necessary to take it down. My point on the matter is that overall the two systems pose different options that cater to two different types of players, TB as a more casual, albeit flawed way to get specific champions and roles without the nitty gritty issue of pick order or people banning you out.

as a competitive system, TB just didn't have the methods, and while i understand that Riot has expressed interest in creating a blind-pick variant down the line for the new C-S its never going to (and probably never should) be quite the same as what TB offers now. I don't deny that TB is flawed, the disparity of classes is always going to make sure that that happens, but as for the current issue of keeping TB up vs removing it, I don't think its quite necessary to remove it just yet.
