Um Riot can we NOT change Fiora's Title?

Maybe its just personal preference, but I feel like a title of "Grand Duelist" fits Fiora's personality and ego much better than "Mistress of the Blade" which while i know what its going for, and as badass as i know it can feel, it just doesn't seem to have the same level of authority or prowess the former does.

Then again maybe i'm overreacting since the change is literally en route to the pbe right now.

What do you guys think?

Update: For anyone late to the punch, Fiora is confirmed to be remaining a Grand Duelist, so conflict avoided! Much thanks to Ant in Oz for the clarification!

Whoops, our bad. Fiora will be reinstated as the "The Grand Duelist" in the next update.

In the future, it's possible that some Champs may get new titles, but only when it clearly fits their thematic better - it's not something to change lightly, or without careful consideration.

But for Fiora, "The Grand Duelist" does the trick - there's no need for us to change it.

It sounds cool, but it would conflict with Cho' gath. There would be two Terrors, and that's something most loreteams would avoid.

MonkeyKing - (the monkey king) I would be interested to see if you guys could come up with a better title for him. As far as his game lore goes it doesn't really fit him, but since he's based of Sun Wukong (who is infact the king of monkeys) I don't see what it could change to :L

If you guys are currently looking for title updates I really hope Shyvana is on that radar. Ever since she came out that had to be the laaaaaaaaaaziest title we've ever seen. Making her fit in with her Demacian pals I think would be a good step forward in terms of cool/appropriate titles.

It's just so goofy: Garen – the Might of Demacia JarvanIV – the Exemplar of Demacia XinZhao – the Seneschal of Demacia Quinn – Demacia's Wings Shyvana – ... the Half Dragon

Why not be all:

Fiddlesticks – the Scarecrow Renekton – the Crocodile Gangplank – the Pirate

Shyvana could have a sweet Demacian title ike, the Fury of Demacia, or the Fire of Demacia. It could be more like Quinn, whose title is not "of Demacia", and could be Demacia's Flame.

"Mistress of the Blade" just sounds like they're forcing her gender onto the title, and giving it a more "vampish" or "seductive" tone to it. I know I sound like a feminist, but that's what it feels like.

"The Grand Duelist" is just that, a duelist that is indeed grand. Fiora is the duelist of League, not some seductive assassin you'd find in film noir. She may be sexy, but it has nothing to do with her abilities. This is League of Legends, each title of each champion should represent their legacy, what they will be known as when their name is lost to history. Fiora doesn't seduce people or assassinate them (or both), she duels people. People may remember her grace, but after ages and ages have past they will remember her for her dueling, not her swagger.

That's exactly how i feel tbh. It kind of feels like their emphasizing her femininity when honestly there was no need. I don't really think that the new title matches who she is, or really adds anything interesting to her character, and it almost feels like further reduction from the changes we're already having to adjust to as is with her massive character design shift. Hell this title would honestly fit her old character design with its ornate breastplate and bodysuit more than it does with her current simple fencing uniform (and crazy large shoulderpad rito wai?)

Plus, Grand Duelist exudes that smug feeling of superiority that defines Fiora. She's all about two things : how vastly superior she is and how much she knows that and wants you to acknowledge it.

Connotation vs. Denotation is the key here.

Mistress of the Blade doesn't sound as smug and arrogant as The Grand Duelist would for Fiora; it sounds seductive and enticing rather than haughty and foreboding. When I'm in a video game, and a bunch of goons are talking up a charcter, I'd rather here the title be The Grand Duelist for someone as arrogant as Fiora, rather than Mistress of the Blade. It fits her better.

This has nothing to do with feminism, and everything to do with the culture surrounding the word and its implications at this point. Besides, again: Fiora is arrogant and smug, and she wants you to acknowledge that she is the best goddamn fencer that ever did. The Grand Duelist sounds much more fitting for an arrogant fencer than "Mistress of the Blade" because that conveys, not arrogance, but an air of seduction at this point.

I really don't see how Fiora being the blade's mistress is seductive at all. I am aware where the whole 'it sounds seductive' thing is coming from but it's really up to interpretation. As someone who actually plays Fiora exclusively (when available, of course) and loves everything about her from lore to attitude to gameplay, I was quite happy with the change and wish people didn't EXPLODE this into a problem it never was.

Well, I mean, to me we're just discussing what we think of the title. Some people might take it too far, but I don't see people explaining in detail their interpretation and feelings about it is necessary exploding and making it a problem.

If we didn't say anything at all, and just let it go, there would be no resistance to it. If we speak up, and then other people discuss the merit of the change, we get to weigh our options and decide which one is better. Discussion.

I don't feel like this was a problem, or exploded into a huge mess. Part of Fiora's character was going to be changed, so everyone spoke up about it. What else were you expecting?

I kinda have to agree. There are zero complaints about Mordekaiser being the Master of Metal, Azir being the Emperor of The Sands, or Jax being the Grandmaster at Arms; gender-indicative titles for male champs. I digress though, I think the only title on a female champ that indicates gender at all is Sivir (The Battle Mistress) which was never an issue as far as I know.

That being said I cringed at Mistress of The Blade, so horrifically boring (just as boring as The Master of Metal.... >_>) Thanks, Rito, for undoing this travesty. Now you guys just have to help Rek'Sai: The Burrowing Insect. RekSai pls

Edit: I'm a dingus, I totally forgot about a bunch of other female champs with gender-indicative titles (I.E. Nidalee, Orianna, etc.). Maybe Sivir was the only one that came to mind because of the title similarities with 'Mistress of The Blade'. Maybe forgot male characters with gender-exclusive titles...probably did. My bad.

Only slight agreement I have is with the word "master", as it only shares the distinction of being a descript title for a sexual relationship. However, at least "master" implies something other than that... "Mistress" is not used as a positive descriptor for anyone anymore, at least here in the states. If someone called another a "mistress" of any type, a compliment would be the last thing that comes to mind, if it ever did. You hear that in civilized conversation a lot? Or ever? I sure don't.

I was one among the few who liked the changes to her design and kit, as I felt both better represented her thematic as a champion. I believe the changes were for the better, but that is only my opinion, nothing more.
