If new Aatrox needs buffs, I feel the most logical place to start is his passive.

Specifically, allowing his passive to reset on tower hit. All in all, I like the new Aatrox and think he's gotten a decent power boost, but his tower taking speed has definitely taken a hit now that he no longer gains passive AS all the time. I'm not convinced that Aatrox needs more power atm but if he does end up needing buffs, upping his tower taking speed seems like a good place to start given his role as a split pusher.

They just buffed him.. Did you even read the patch notes?

There's a decent chance he'll still need more after this. This is merely a suggestion of where to start if that is the case.

Have you ever played aatrox? This was a huge nerf.

I wouldn't say a huge nerf, more along the lines of a re-balancing. From what I understand according to Phreak's patchnotes explanation on youtube, Aatrox now will get more out of being more tanky as opposed to the kill-face AD builds that are hard to use because of how easy he is to kite. Not to mention his E is now Physical damage so he can use Black Cleaver and it be useful.

So how can you build more tanky on Aatrox? Does he get more damage reduction? Nope. Does he have % HP damage so you can build him tanky and ignore damage? Nope. Did he get resistances or extra CC? Nope. So how would he be more viable as tank if he got nothing that makes tank builds viable in the first place?

New Aatrox gets screwed over even harder by kiting because you lose the blood rush buff after 3-4 seconds. Which means you lose not only your extra AS and damage but also your ability to revive.

His E also got the slow nerfed from 2.75 to 2. So idk if that's a buff either.

The only good thing Riot did was removing health cost.

Nasus doesn't have damage reduction, % health damage, and has only 1 CC ability but still builds mainly tank Darius doesn't have damage reduction, % health damage, and has 1 CC ability that is an AA buff while the other is dodgable but still builds mainly tank Tahm Kench doesn't have damage reduction and has situational CC and still builds mainly tank Malphite doesn't have damage reduction, % health damage, and 1 CC that's single target while the other is a long cooldown ult but builds mainly tank Cho'Gath doesn't have damage reduction, % health damage, and all skill shot CC but still builds mainly tank unless going the AP route Illaoi doesn't have damage reduction and has an easily dodgable slow but still mainly builds tank Nautilus doesn't have damage reduction or % health damage but still builds mainly tank Olaf doesn't have damage reduction, % health damage, and has 1 skill shot CC but still builds mainly tank Sion doesn't have damage reduction and all skill shot CC but still builds mainly tank

Here are 9 viable tank top laners that are missing some of the things you asked if Aatrox recieved or 1 CC/dodgable CCs like Aatrox.

You build Black Cleaver and possibly Titanic with the rest being defense items. If the enemy team has decent number of AD champions build Dead Man's (or build it anyways because it gives you movement speed and an on-hit slow). He gets +25% AD while in Blood Rush giving him some extra damage (+17 AD at level 4 when you would want to start fighting) that you can also use along side Sterek's Gauge. His abilities no longer cost HP so he isn't slitting his wrists every time he fights back taking over 100 HP per Q E and Price W individually later in the game (E costing flat 30 at all stages in the game making it non-existent after early game). His heal is better at higher HP and almost dead (but weaker at around 50%). He already has 2 AOE CC abilities so he doesn't require any more than that, but if you want more CC then build Mallet to give him HP AD and an AA slow. His ult is like Illaoi's where you want to be in the middle of the enemy team when you cast it to top off your Blood Well as much as possible (+20% to the BW for each enemy champion it hits) allowing you to potentially start a fight with Blood Rush.

Instead of just looking at everything he lost, look at everything else that he gained also. He's far from perfect, this is just a small band-aid until they can focus on him later, but I think he will be in a better place after people get use to him.
