In Riots balance team

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZwl0ctPUg4&feature=youtu.be

They start off talking about Sivir, and how she is a balanced champ, which she is. But some of what they said made no sense, like they barely knew what they were talking about, and they were trying to grasp at ideas which someone else had kinda explained to them, but hadn't elaborated fully to them. Ok, w/e, maybe the balance team doesn't have a 100% grasp on everything in the game, there is a ton of stuff to know, hopefully they have some insight on the other stuff in the patch

But no, it went downhill from there

talking about Kassadin they try to cover up the crippling nerf with talks of exponential mana and how it can be sustained with W, (lol, they didn't even seem to know what his W is. at 5 minutes in, they say that he can blink onto someone, hit him with a W and then blink again and sustain the cost. Most Kassadin will max his W last, so before lvl 14-18, he only gets 20% of his missing mana if he hits a champ with W. So, during mid game when Kass is trying to get a ton of kills and he's at his strongest, he only gets 20% of his missing mana from a not even close to stacked item 3070 and item 3027. So maybe 300 mana. Yet a 4 stack rift walk costs 960 mana. And he needs 2 now to go the distance of his old ult.)

They also talk about how he was oppressive, that he blocked picks like Lux and other squishy immobile mids. How is this different from Zed who does the same thing but doesn't need mana and forces you to go item 3157 as a first item or he will kill you every time?

At 5:44, they talk about JarvanIV. Smashgizmo says "he ganks incredibly well pre-6, he ganks incredibly well post-6, he's clearing the jungle fast, he's clearing the jungle safe, he just does it all." This was true for JarvanIV but it sounds exactly like LeeSin too. Where are the nerfs for him? LeeSin is in nearly every game, solo queue, LCS, he does exactly the same thing as J4, but is Rito's golden child is somehow exempt for nerfs? For year?

At 8:11, they talk about Veigar and Riot Jag says "He would pop up and 1 shot you, not every champ can do that but that is Veigar's true fantasy. He has to be able to burst you effectively, but then the tools he got to do that were 2 click on you skillshots and a very reliable long range stun."

Other than the stun, how does this differ from the likes of Leblanc or Katarina or even Annie ? They all have point and click nukes (3 for Leblanc ) are are safer than veigar. Yet Veigar gets nerfed to his stun, so that any competent player will never get hit by it. The Q change is nice, but your reasoning is poor at best.

And then we get to morde. Gets DFG removed, and then gets nerfed. And to try and even disguise this straight nerf, they give him 75 more range on Q and a weird speed boost on W. Still have no idea why they did they that, and they gave no reasons for it. They basically said "we don't really know what we want to do with him, so we did this, and were gonna see what this does." Maybe?

9:48 "I think Veigar players would be sad if our buffs to him put him right on top."

So we nerfed his E to the ground. LAWL GL NF

Yeah, that's right Riot I'm salty as fuck. I will try out this new Veigar and I will try my best to fit him in, but I can already see, he is not going to be the same Veigar. 0 solo kill potential. So much for 100-0 fantasy.

Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even know how the champs they're nerfing are played. Some of the changes that get pushed through make literally no sense, or are just beating a dead horse.

From what I have seen/heard Riot pays much closer attention to the scene in Asia than most of the posters here. And what happens in Korea is the biggest influence on their nerf/buff decisions and methods. Both Kassadin and Veigar were major picks in Korea with Veigar being considered the #1 support because of his stun.

When you figure that out you realize that Riot is trying to please multiple groups. The NA meta isn't the same as the EUW or LCK metas and from what I understand Korea is where the majority of the money comes from so their meta is the one that Riot works hardest to balance.

Frustrating, but it explains why the changes make no sense to us. We don't follow the Korean meta closely so have no idea how others are using/misusing the various champions.

Oh yeah they've proven they care so much about oppressive picks that prevent certain types of champions from being played Gnar Lissandra Rumble Lulu. Removing those definitely sounds like a consistently applied design principle and not an excuse.

I like that whole thing about maybe heard Kass' R got a little shorter range. Lol more like it got so much less range that it nerfed him so much it's ridiculous. Did he even read the patch notes before saying that? I wonder why they even bother having this kind of rundown when it basically just says, "Hey look, we don't know what we're doing."

At this point I think it is more effective to get boots of mobility or swiftness than to put a point into his ult.

Most of my friends did quit after season 2 telling me that the game became worse, I on the other hand stayed thinking to myself that it'll get better eventually. Oh boy have I been wrong, patch after patch it was getting worse, and at this point there's nothing left for me to expect. R.I.P revive item 3070 Karthus item 3070

Yeah, this patch run-down didn't seem coherent at all, I have to agree. Some of the explanations they gave NEVER held in any of my games.

I'm a Jungler and here's what I think about what they said to justify the Jarvan nefs:

He ganks incredibly well pre-6, he ganks incredibly well post-6, he's clearing the jungle fast, he's clearing the jungle safe, he just does it all.

That's great, but this champion was tier 2 for all of Season 4. The only reason he is strong now is that you literally nerfed every other jungler to the ground, not only through direct champion nerfs (Hello Elise, Evelyn, Kha'zix) but by blanket nerfing junglers multiple times in Season 5. Maybe if you scraped some dung off of the Jungle pool you'd find some other shiny rocks?

Yeah, nowadays maybe, you counterjungle him, because he'll be lower. Or you counter-gank him.

Also great, now I can pick one of the other 4 viable champions and they'll do better in the jungle-match-up. HYPE! Seriously, all you did is move around the hierarchy of tier 1 junglers. This solves NOTHING. Counter-jungling and counter-ganking doesn't apply to the 20 champions that can't even farm up enough gold and experience in the jungle right now to have a slight chance of out-dueling or out-ganking the top few.

Honestly, I'm really dissapointed by the Jarvan nerf. All it does is weaken ANOTHER jungler and make the jungle even more unfulfilling. Like I said before, Jarvan wasn't god-tier in Season 4. MAYBE just MAYBE that was because he had a good amount of competition of junglers that surrounded him that filled a multi-tiered system not just - Viable tier and Shit tier.

The main thing I noticed about the 5.4 patch rundown video is that the devs were clearly uncomfortable with the state of Kassadin and Veigar after the patch. They look pretty convinced those changes need further work.
