Allow Spellvamp to work on self casted shields and heals

Giving shields and heals spell vamp would mean that the damages they soak is flat and are not factoring resistances (unlike damaging an enemy champion unless your doing true damage). As such the spell vamp % could be reduced to 75% for shields and 50% for heals. this is sort of arbitrary could be other way around too. Or to start out both at 50% or even 30% on pbe just to see how it goes.

Its not much: 50% of 20% (amount of spellvamp on wota or gunblade) of say 350 heal on warwick's q. so 35 extra health. Seems reasonable considering the cost of spellvamp.

This would help make gunblade slightly more viable. Particularly on champions like udyr shen sion skarner nidalee who shouldn't adverse to itemize gunblade.

One of the premise behind this idea is that spellvamp is best on champions who does DMG on nearly all the spells in their kit. Cassiopeia kennen Vlad. kits with a defensive spell aren't getting gipped sort to speak.

note this would not apply on shields or heals received. only what youcast on yourself. its as if your treating it like a damage spell. whereas some champions would otherwise have a damage spell on either w,e,r... that benefit from spellvamp this would makeup for it.

I think this would add unnecessary confusion.

This would throw Akali through the roof on self-healing.

Also in the game engine, spell vamp is a percentage of magic damage dealt, so it would have to be entirely recoded to work with a shield.

Another thing to think about is Janna's shield.

----- If she casts it on an ally, does she receive spell vamp based on the shield's value, or does the ally receive it based upon that or the damage they do?

It seems like you're going for something like the Bulwark spell on Galio

Spell Vamp is from spell damage, both physical and magic damages gain benefits. It only doesn't work for autoattacks and on-hit effects. Even smite and ignite benefit from spell vamp.

this would not effect akali at all you people don't read

"Spell Vamp is from spell damage, both physical and magic damages gain benefits. It only doesn't work for autoattacks and on-hit effects".

exactly that's why I'm specifically pointed out how spell vamp is a waste on champions without only damage dealing spells. and thereby making gunblade less viable on these champions who otherwise should benefit from it.

If we're being honest, spell vamp is a pretty useless stat on all but like 5-ish champions, and I'm all for increasing the usefulness of it, but I don't think this is the right way to go about it. Spell vamp is meant to be a mirror to lifesteal--it gives self-healing as a direct ratio to damage dealt--and having it work for shields and direct heals would just add confusion to who, exactly should be buying it.

The current pool of chamions who use it consist of an AssassinAkali, an autoattack focused mageKayle, an AP bruiserVladimir , and whatever the heck this guy isMordekaiser. Meanwhile, lifesteal is incredibly valuable for pretty much EVERY AD champion.

With one damagesustain stat being a one size fits all and the other being a total fustercluck, it's pretty clear to see that the system as a whole could use quite a bit of work, and giving shields spell vamp scaling isn't a solution to the problem.

because its too confusing. you guys need to give it a try. aside from confusing what else is wrong about it? it seems to solve a lot of issues an expand the roster of champions spellvamp is viable on /gunblade was originally intended for ap/ad bruisers like warwick udyr shen sion skarner..

The problem with your suggestion is that it would get more people to use the stat, but it would ultimately change the fundamental intended purpose of the stat. item 3152 is designed for champions who deal sustained spell damage, and item 3146 is designed for champions who deal sustained mixed damage, and neither are designed for champions who shield and heal allies.

When I say it would be confusing, I don't mean "I'm an idiot who can't figure out how the math would work out to make it balanced and more viable" I mean, "It literally makes no sense for this stat to be used in this way. Why in the world would anybody possibly want this stat to be used in this way."

... wot? u want heal on top of heals and shields? that makes no sense... the point of "vamping" implies you're vamping from another source... it's like saying vampires feed by sucking their own blood? Vladimir Q's himself to get more health???? Doesn't make sense lore-wise. Doesn't make sense mechanically... SV on Karma Orianna Sona Alistar Galio Janna Leona Lulu Lux Nidalee Morgana? Firstly most of their shields are good enough mid to late game to soak up enough damage for their regen to kick in quite a bit, and secondly their much better just going pure damage anyways... Akali Builds SV because of her passive Vladimir because he's vlad Jax Kayle don't need SV because they dish out too much damage to care Cassiopeia because of her E Kennen's not that good with SV tbh better to go pure AP Urgot is pretty godly with SV Notice how Urgot, Akali and Cassiopeia are the only AP champs with spammable SINGLE target spells? unlike all those shield/heal AOE mages I listed above. It's because all of those mages don't dish out single targets enough to make SV efficient. therefore it'll still be a waste on them. we can't buff SV % because it'll make vlad OP. Conclusion: SV's fucked because of Vlad. Thanks rito Also summoner 7 summoner 21 Buff? wot? why? Mordekaiser's an exception because he needs SV to stay in fights. he has no innate regen like other health doods

call it spell return on investment then lol.. idk I think it would work, from a gameplay point of view. umguys are picky/fussing about semantics sure lore wise it makes sense your suck blood with Vlad. but a spear somehow returning heal? auto attacks returning health with scepter? it makes no sense. all of a sudden a shield returning health everyone loses their minds.

If you are jungling you have the option of getting the gift of the toadstool before a fight, which does proc spellvamp, thornmail however, does not.
