Changing critical strike from a random chance into a stacking system.
Currently, the way crit works is that every time you auto attack you generate a random number between 1 and 100. If that number is equal or below your current crit chance, your auto attack will critically strike to deal double damage ( this doesn't affect on-hits ).
While it's not entirely random ( there is an in-built system that will increase your chance of critting if you didn't crit for a long time ), its RNG has been criticized by the community for quite a while now because random chance shouldn't really decide how a fight goes, the only factor should be your skill.
I recently had an idea to change this though - instead of having critical strike chance you have a stat which is just called "critical strike" instead.
The way it would work is that every auto attack ( and every instance of damage of an ability that can critically strike like Garen's E or MF's ult ) generates an amount of critical strike stacks that is equal to your critical strike stat. Upon hitting 100 or more stacks, you consume 100 stacks and the auto attack or the ability that got you over 100 will critically strike. You will lose all critical strike stacks 5 seconds after you have stopped auto attacking or using critically striking abilities.
Critical Strike is capped at 100 and every crit item in the game would give you an amount of critical strike that is equal to their current critical strike chance - for example, a Phantomdancer would give you 30 critical strike, IE would double your critical strike and so on.
This way you not only know when exactly you're going to crit and when you aren't, it also gives you a certain level of control if you generate stacks properly, removing all the issues that there are with the current RNG based system.
Something esle that could be donet is maybe introducing a new rune in the "legend" line, like Alacrity or Tenacity. This new rune would give you critical strike instead.
There are still some problems with it though - on certain champions, being able to generate stacks on minions and then critically striking your lane opponent could be too strong in some cases, like Tryndamere in the early game or GP charging up stacks for his Q or a Barrel. But then again - lots of crit champions are struggling a lot at the moment, and this might just be the buff they needed.
That's about it. Let me know what you guys think.
