Flash Is Such A "Required Summoner" That It Should Be Removed

In 99% of cases, players are flamed or called trolls if they do not use Flash. Since the beginning of time Flash summoner 4 has been considered the most viable and required summoner out of every single summoner spell in the game. Even on champions like Udyr and Hecarim, who have more benefit from Ghost... Flash is still considered a superior Summoner Spell by most high tier players. Back when League came out, not many champions had kits with mobility spells so Flash was a good tool to counter the champions who did. Now days in League however, nearly every single champion has mobility added into their kits.

League of Legends as a whole at this point, would benefit strategically so much more if Flash were just removed altogether. With the sheer amount of mobility spells, movement speed items, and re-positioning items (i.e. Hextech Protobelt) available.. players deserve to be punished for their mistakes. Having Flash as a safeguard really is overkill and even oppressive for champions who don't have the mobility spells that most champions do have. When a Lucian dashes into a Miss Fortune to deal damage and Miss Fortune ults him, he DESERVES to die. He shouldn't have a Flash to escape with. When Nidalee pounces into the middle of 5 champions and realizes she shouldn't have done that, she shouldn't be able to just Flash away. When Ahri uses her ultimate incorrectly or wastes her ultimate, she shouldn't have Flash waiting to save her until her ultimate comes back up.

Seriously Riot Games, League of Legends has enough mobility in it already.. Flash was fine in the early days, but it's a spell that shouldn't exist any longer. Flash has too much of an impact on every single thing in the game, and it shouldn't be that way. Despite the fact that all players can use the spell, it gives some champions a much larger advantage than others, an advantage that wouldn't exist if the spell wasn't there to begin with.

Sure, it sounds crazy.. but this isn't Season 1-2/ early 3 where we only had a handful of champions capable of jumping over walls. This is Season 7 where probably 70-80% of the champion pool is now capable of dashing or blinking.. not to mention Supports like Bard, Tahm Kench, and Thresh who also provide escape tools for their team. There's no longer a reason for this spell to exist.

So something that u can do 4-5 times a game is problematic?

Except most games last anywhere from 30-50 minutes. Not sure where you got that math from but you can Flash 10-11 times in a 50 minute game, depending on your Masteries.

And yes, it is a problem. Champions like Ahri become nearly unkillable simply because of the existence of the Flash summoner spell.

The opposite side of that argument is there too though. Try to catch a kiting or mobile champ without having flash.

so the solution would be do to flash what they did to recall and make it innate or nerf it enough (not in cd but in other ways like how it's used) so it's not so mandatory.

LostFr0st1 votes

Why make it innate? It's not like recall, it's not 100% must-take. It's just really satisfying to use and enabled a lot of cool stuff so people gravitate to it since it's instant (unlike ghost which they need to plan around).

There are champs which chose to no take flash, and it changes how people play around them.
If it gets nerfed in ways other than cd it wouldn't work for a lot of walls in the game that are just barely possible. That would be boring.

did I say range? I'm talking about delays and turning it into more of a phase dash. regardless there's nobody who doesn't want and need an instant reposition over everything else except tanks who can take the damage, and even then they usually take it. So, yes, it really is a must have.

LostFr0st1 votes

If it's delayed it s u c k s.

A delayed ability by default needs a gameplay reason to be delayed; usually that counterplay comes in the form of the opponent being able to answer the ability in some way.

Even if you don't touch range or cd, the fact that it's delayed removed the reason people like flash: because it's instant and the opponent can't answer it.

Making it delayed automatically means they need to communicate the direction (otherwise no reason for a delay) which automatically means they remove flash jukes from the game with such a change. Flash jukes feel clever, and humans like to feel clever. So removing insta-flash means removing an opportunity to feel clever.

ezreal's flash is delayed and I don't see anyone complaining about it being awful, and that's nothing to do with the shorter cd, a small delay can give chasers the opportunity to catch the person if they mistime it. I still don't think it's the best change that could happen to it but I don't really know what to be done about it other than something will need to be done.

LostFr0st1 votes

Ezreal's "flash" does damage. That's why there's a delay on it.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

sok? do you agree or disagree that flash needs tweaks to make it not so ubiquitously useful?

LostFr0st1 votes

I disagree that it needs tweaks. It has settled into a spot where it's worth playing around the timers and enables plays which can't otherwise be done. Changes to its instantaneous nature would remove possibilities from the game (combos, steals, etc.) and I think the battlefield is better off with it as-is.

Most games dont last between 30-50 min. This isnt season 2. Average game duration nowadays is less than 30 mins. Why would Ahri become nearly unkillable if both parties have flash? She flashes, you flash. Its not even close to being a problem. Quite the opposite, its a solution for champions without mobility now when so many champions have mobility.

If she Flashes under her tower, following her probably isn't a wise plan. Now, if Flashing toward an enemy tower disabled it for ten seconds, that might actually be a viable choice.

you don't flash every time it's off cd

While it would be interesting, I feel like removing Flash would be like removing a sole Jenga piece that's in the middle of the structure. Half of the thing will collapse and then would have to be put back together.

I say this, cause I believe there are some Champs who rely on Flash, in terms of engaging or securing the play they want to perform. So if it was removed, they might have to get compensation, potentially.

Which would be a pretty big hassle, and then almost the entire player base would have to adapt.

This game is practically balanced around flash. Remove flash and you might as well remove most of the champ in the game. Immobile champs/champs without some sort of point and click hard CC will not be viable at all.

Imagine trying to catch Lucian as Darius lul.

I'm still in favor of splitting it into two spells.

Dash gives you a quick directional dash that can't pass through walls. It would get its range and cooldown improved over Live Flash.

Passwall would give you a single-person Magical Journey sort of effect, allowing you to bypass a wall of any length just like Bard. This would open up a ton of interesting new ganking paths if used well.

LostFr0st1 votes

This legit removes flash-jukes from the game...

Without flash, there's no way to possibly escape high mobility champs such as Camille.

Reverse Flash- As Flash, but with the yellow fart gas emitted upon use being tinged with red.

nosafterburn1 votes

just make it a passive on starting boots, and everyone gets a pair when they land (Cassiopeia item 3070 item 3070 . That way new summoner combos will happen.
