Warwick Rework

Little Stick Man··21 votes·9,090 views

Warwick desperately needs a kit rework, being one of the champions made in LoL's infancy his kit is clunky and the odd scaling he has with AP seems...unfitting. This rework would make him into more of an physical assassin with good chase potential. I will list his current kit along side my ideas.

Predators Lunge ACTIVE: Warwick drops down on all fours, gaining 25% movespeed for 7 seconds. Reactivating this ability, allows Warwick to leap in a targeted direction. If he Lunges onto an enemy he will stun them for 1.5 seconds and dealing physical damage (Prioritizes enemy champions.)

OLD W - Hunters Call RANGE: 1250 COST: 35 MANA COOLDOWN: 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 Hunters Call ACTIVE: For 6 seconds, Warwick gains bonus attack speed and grants half of that bonus to all nearby allies. 「 ATTACK SPEED: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% 」

No dashes pls. League of Infinite Dashes already has enough.

I think giving everyone some form of ability will be one of the big steps to balance. Dawngate (RIP) lived by a philosophy of "All champs have mobility, unless they have to not have it." as opposed to leagues "No one can have mobility, unless they have to have it" philosophy (Initially anyway) and mobility creep wasn't a problem. So I see no problem with giving an old champion a dash.

A Miss Fortune1 votes

Because this isn't Dawngate. Mobility in League discourages strategic thinking. It's easily used as an "oops, I messed up" button that fixes all of your mistakes. It's bad enough stuff like Ekko's ult basically is a free "oops I messed up, now fix my problems" ability but the mobility he has with his other dash/blink is too much.

Mobility should pretty much be something that a champion trades off for something like damage. I think Ahri is a good example of mobility in a champion, she does a decent amount of damage but without her mobility she'd be nearly useless and outclassed by all Mid laners.

what ekkos only solid mobility is his passive which requires him to fight someone for 2 seconds. his e is really short and his ult is almost useless when escaping ganks his ult is only really a "oops i messed up button" when he tries to assassinate someone which is what it was designed for and to balanced that out his assassination combo has a lot of counterplay and is very easy to avoid.

Well each to their own. But I think that everyone having mobility would be a better idea. What you say makes sense but I'd have to disagree, I believe it to be the opposite. Everyone should have mobility, but those who don't get to trade it from lots of damage. Just because league isn't dawngate doesn't mean that it can't take a leaf from it, they're both MOBA's after all and share a vast array of mechanics.

To quote an incredible Move on the matter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8I9pYCl9AQ

A Miss Fortune1 votes

I just don't see a reason for every champion to have mobility. It DOES discourage strategic thinking because of how easy it is to use as a way to fix your mistakes. I remember one game in the LCS almost nobody but like 1 champ had any form of mobility in it, and it was probably one of the most exciting and interesting matches that I've ever seen. It really showed each team's strengths and weaknesses and the game was really fun to watch.

I'd much rather have everyone at 300 movement speed than everyone with a dash. This isn't Dawngate this is League and I think there's a reason Dawngate no longer exists.

I think it is a little too powerful, but I love the direction you took with the kit. I prefer the new idea around the new passive and don't mind if it is similar to Darius'. I really like the new Q and think the W would fit well with the kit. However, I would not put a reset on his Ult. Overall, I like the direction you took and think it fits his theme really well. Definitely not perfect and would still need alot of tweaking but an improvement to what we have.

EliteGunm4n5 votes

This rework with the suggested changes would be incredibly powerful. with the suggested changes you could easily build a stronger, tanky assassin warwick than his current lifesteal allows. You're suggestion gives him an ult that suppresses (just like his current one), applies empowered autos, and would max out his new passive as well. that means without any bonus AD at lvl 18 (ignoring armor reductions for the moment) you 120 dmg per auto + 300 in empowered dmg + a little more than 125 dmg from his passive. That is over 1000 dmg in a 1.5 second suppression ult with 0 AD items. Also the suggested E scales entirely off the targets health so there isnt a need to build to AD in order to use that as an assassination tool. And that is not even mentioning the proposed reset on his ult.

Now I also feel he needs to have something changed. He can be incredibly oppressive in low levels and is completely useless in high level play in his current state. His lack of any laning tools forces him into only really being a jungler and his kit currently nearly requires him to farm with no map presence until he reaches lvl 6. I just feel that these changes (while thematically fine) would incredibly powerful.

As a warwick main :( PRE Weedwick Pre S5 Pre sated I'd agree with you: that would strong 30% MS with Q passive and W cast 15% as with W cast A 1.5 second stun with a leap (single target) and the ult while shorter than before would do a lot more damage However: tweaking would make him better in the number department and this gives him multiple build paths gives him a stronger identity

This also trades off his passive sustain for active sustain on E's codlin

it also decreases his clear speed lower levels but does decrease DMG taken.

No. The only good ability you have here is his E. Which, admittedly, is a nice ability. Let's break it down and talk about why each ability doesn't work.

Passive - Dealing physical damage over time is a bad plan because of its insane speed boost granted by item 3044 . Darius is allowed to have this because he has NO OTHER MOVE SPEED BUFFS in his kit. Your Warwick has two. Not good. Next.

Q - Ignoring that this is Volibear's Q already, a move speed buff that gives you a line dash gives you an escape, which is thematically incorrect for the champion. Assassins are already annoying enough because of their ability to use their mobility either for escapes or engages, this is a trend we need to curb, not continue. The ability of Warwick to stun is alright, would definitely help his ganks pre-6, but it should not come with a gap closer as well.

W - A 3 second fear? That will make Warwick's clearing way too healthy. Fearing the raptors for 3 seconds will let you basically kill all of the small ones before they get to attack you once. Warwick's current sustain jungle is fine because he's a tank, but making him an early game assassin means his clearing should be much harder to discourage repeated ganks before level 6. Ideally, a champion should gank a maximum of three times before 6, or else be at serious risk of dying/losing way too much XP. With the ability to basically prevent all damage camps can do to him for 35 mana per camp, Warwick would be able to clear his jungle and gank every 90 seconds with full health.

R - No. Look at Zed, look at Ekko, look at Kha'Zix. Riot has learned their lesson from Yi, Katarina and Akali. Assassins no longer get huge ability resets on kill (Kha's E has had its damage nerfed so that the mobility reset is more important). Also, suppression is a disgusting CC type that is thankfully kept rare, it doesn't need to be applied to the whole team.

Nice rework it's well thought and I quite like it overall, just some things I would change:

  1. Passive: I would rather have the live passive a bit buffed (maybe the cool passive ZenonTheStoic came up with) but make it stack half on minions and jungle camps and full on epic monsters and champs;
  2. Exchange Q - Predators Lunge and E - Devouring Assault, it would feel more friendly for the live WW players;
  3. Make Predator's lunge passive movespeed go 10/15/20/25/30% instead of 15% at all ranks, double the passive bonus while activated, but activate on targets with less than 30/35/40/45/50% health and make the range 1000/1500/2000/2500/3000 (the active dash would still be 400 and could still be used on Full health targets, but he would lose the MS), WW isn't an early game champ, but for a mid-game one he scales horribly late-game, this way he can still find isolated targets and crush them even later in the game.
  4. Give Devouring Assault a marking passive as a substitute to the passive you proposed and make it do more damage and heal based on the amount of marks: 1/2/3/4/5% of enemy missing health per mark and heal for 1/2/3/4/5% of your missing health per mark, can't be activated with 0 marks, so you still need to hit the enemy at least once to use it and in a fast fight it will be pretty weak, but in a sustained fight you will be incredibly strong.
  5. I quite like the fear on W but dislike his MS steroid (too much steroids of the same kind can be bad, like Aatrox's double AS steroid), that's why I would give E more MS and remove it from W. That said instead of a MS steroid, I would give him a slow for 15/20/25/30/35% on champs and I would change the AS from 30% flat to 5/10/15/20/25% per enemy hit (max 5) to you and half of that to allies in that were in range during the cast.
  6. Infinite Duress > Gluttony drive, the name sounds just that cool, the skill is pretty much the same, but I prefer your version.

I know I proposed some incredibly major changes, but they are just my personal approach on your rework to mantain WW's identity, so in the end, as a WW lover that spammed the hell out of him: Your kit really is awesome, it feels balanced, fun and has good outplay potential, while still having good weaknesses and even withouth the changes I proposed, I would still love it. For those who would say: "these changes are only buffs" you are incorrect. They would be weaker than the live early WW (and also of this reworj at early levels), less AS from W (well it would be stronger in lane but weaker in the jungle, where WW is most played), less stickyness from and less overall fighting potential 1 vs 1 (since if you fin the enemy in a river your W at rank 5 will give you only 25% AS) early game, pretty much even mid-game and stronger late-game. I'll repeat again: this is my personal approach on this kit (the core of the kit, as you can see, is almost totally untouched, I only changed some number), and I still would love this kit as it is, this is just a constructive and friendly exchange of ideas between me and the author (if he feels like reading and reply to my approach on his idea).

Glad you liked ^^, I did most of those changes to add some mechanical skills involved and give him some strenght (like W scaling on the number of target hit) that he can't really abuse neither in jungle nor in lane, like the stronger MS on Predator's Lunge, he does get a lot of MS, but he has to actually invest time and rank in the skill for it to become strong, but if he's a jungler he either decides to play it safe and not take too many point in it (losing a lot of chasing potential but gaining more power through W and Q) or take it and lose a lot of trading power soif no ganks are available he won't be strong enough to fight his enemy when the time comes. The change to Devouring Assault, it's meant to keep in check his ability to burst a target, he can do it (he can do up to 25% missing health after 5 hits, that's a lot), but first he needs to actually get a few hits on him (like darius) so he won't be able to just use it on a target that's barely in range (he could also ult, but he would have to waste a moderately long cd ult to kill a target for which some aa would be enough, totally not worth), but if the enemy does let you stack it, you will pretty much have a fight reset on you and a huge burst on him, making the new WW one of the strongest 1 vs 1 duelers. Also he won't burst towers down if no minions are near them (0 x 25 is still 0, sorry wolfy). But really, your kit is just so good that I had little to no work left to do with those changes ^^.

you named 4 out of how many? And WW has the ability of amazing lock down and sustain that leads to him 1v1ing sustain tank laners such as Darius with ease.

Little Stick Man1 votes

fiddlesticks lee sin kha'zix nunu skarner shyvana vi udyr nocturne olaf sion (with passive) zac here's a list of champions that can consistently solo dragon about 5 minutes in. Warwick is a unique champion in theory but the way his kit is right now, its just so simple It makes him seem very basic. And warwicks amazing lock down is his ult and that's it. Jarvan has amazing lockdown for a jungler because he can cc multiple targets and trap them with his ult.

Awesome rework man :) I just think if you were to edit it I'd take some of the movement speed away but other than that it all looks really awesome. With all the move speed they could rename summoner 6 Warwick haha

NazZomLord1 votes

No, most of those cannot consistently solo drag 5 minutes. J4 =/= amazing lock down. Just dash or flash and can trap your own teammates and is just terrible overall (needs buff). WW also can chase down with his E passive extremely well. And dont put sion in that list if its his passive that does it he dies in the end.

Little Stick Man1 votes

Actually they can if you run lifesteal or some utility or just have trailblazer. Also I can count sion because he can solo dragon with his passive. If he gets dragon alone it doesn't matter if he dies. J4 has the potential for a 5 man knock up, just because it can be avoided doesn't make it bad. If that were true then any ability that you can wiff or mistime would be bad lol ww has 1 form of cc that can be cleansed or qss'd away

Gigahappytown1 votes

warwick kind of needs a lore rework ontop of a kit rework his lore and theme overlap with other bloodhunter/wolfmans from other mobas. plus it restricts how his kit can be made while staying true to his theme.

howstheweather131 votes

Sigh..…I'm disappointed lol. I thought this would be a good one. I agree his kit is outdated and desperately needs retooling but fighter/tank to assassin WTF. Not only would that destroy his play style but most importantly his character/theme.

WW key strengths are as follows

  1. He has arguably the best sustain of any champ.

  2. His R is basically what makes WW who he is, powerful engage and still one of the most broken CC still in LoL.

His play style is pretty textbook select x champ press R proceed to chase and spam autos and Q. This is pretty dull but it gives WW an identity. I hope this doesn't rub you the wrong way but your ideas are generic and doesn't really spark much enthusiasm. We don't need more Fiora and Darius' running around and keep in mind we already have Rengar. When WW is REWORKED we want fresh concepts, no recycled brain dead antiquated slush.

Little Stick Man1 votes

the problem with coming up with totally unique concepts for an antiquated idea (like a werewolf) is its almost impossible to do in a way that doesnt come across as insane or totally unrelated to the character. things like bard and kindred are incredibly unique ideas for kits and characters but warwick is a werewolf and there are only so many ideas as to what a werewolf can do. also warwicks character/theme is pretty assassin oriented. even his ult is made for assassination, its a single target blink that supresses an enemy while you kill them. the only real change i see to his play style is you have to use an ability to gain back health and a pre-6 gank would be possible. currently warwick is a one button champion, maybe its just me but one button champions seem like brain dead antiquated slush
