Riven buff consequences

So Riven got a minor buff this patch which added some damage to her Ultimate active. This was a rather.. Controversial change, to say the least. The question now is, what happened? Let's take a look at the stats. Rivens winrate dropped from 50.74% avg to only 49.85% which is to be expected as her playrate went from 9.68% to 15.38%. So you'd expect to see a significant drop in avg. games played, right? Shouldn't a higher playrate be explained by newbies trying Riven due to the buff? No. Her avg. games played increased from 14x (iirc) to whopping 174 games. Only 6.93% are new to Riven (1-5 games played) and 37%+ have more than 125 games on her (duh, her avg games is 174..).

This might irritate some that are not toplane mains. The thing with toplane is that basically every toplaner has at one point of hit toplane career mained Riven or atleast played her alot. Riven is just that much fun. Especially us toplaners who are used to playing boring TP tanks who have 0 impact before the teamfight phase starts just LOVE to have a champion that is able to roam basically from lvl 6 on. A champion that allows us to play toplane like it was in season 3, with Ignite in our left hand and ham instead of brain.

So those people are now returning to playing Riven. It's useless to pretend that Riven is an easy champ, she has never been. Newbies have a <43% winrate. Riot was always aware of how popular Riven is and that it is necessary to keep her sort of weak because otherwise she'd be P/B.

Conclusion: this doesn't say anything about how strong Riven is compared to the last patch. Just keep one thing in mind: the average Riven you meet has MANY Riven games. She knows the matchup better than you in 99% of the games and she has a lot of fun playing Riven. Not because she is actually winning many games (look at the stats, it's neither easy nor especially rewarding to play Riven) but just because she enjoys the gameplay. So when Riven is deemed "OP" she is usually (S4 is an exception) not OP in the sense that she is too strong for the amount people put into her. She is too strong for how popular she is.

This buff hardly even did anything other than raise her playate. Her actual power level is largely unchanged.

I would trade Riven having 100% win rate if she had 0.5% pick rate. Nobody likes to play vs infinite mobility manaless scum. And no, many of us never played RIven because we actually care for mental health of our lane opponents...

for me i don't care about the power level of riven.

It's just so damn annoying having to play vs her every other game, just like yasuo.

and i'm even winning the riven matchups, I play them so much I pretty much win them on autopilot, just like playing vs yasuo. I's just too annoying having to deal with a riven every other game.

Riven isn't overpowered (although it wouldn't take much for her to become overpowered), she is overloaded.

4 dashes (even if they are short ranged) on relatively low cooldowns, with 2 forms of cc, a shield to mitigate burst, and strong dps which can become very strong burst if you animation cancel properly. Her only real weakness is her sustain, but she can itemize to get around that weakness relatively easily with one of the many life steal items out there.

She honestly needs a rework and when they do something in her kit has got to go.

I know the Jax vs Riven matchup better than any Riven I play against.

"ignite in one hand"

"ham in our head"

I get the feeling with Darius

Fuck riven, boring hoppy-ass champ.

I just dislike Riven because she's so damn snowbally. I know she's hard, though, and the people that play her aren't usually nearly as toxic as the legends say.

I beat Riven as Skarner constantly...

One reason I have stopped complaining about riven INSTANTLY when she went on free week and tried her out. i got stomped in every single fucking game I played with her. (Granted, I've played long enough that even as a noobie, I was able to animation cancel her Q into an auto about 30-40% of the time). Riven really is a champ with insane skillfloor and insane skill cap.

That being said, I have found that playing champs like Soraka as a support main literally makes Riven's cry giant salty tears that allow me to fill my Crucible full of delicious saltiness. Silence field is really fucking OP against combo champs like Riven.

By the time riven reaches her buff zone she has been already nullified in lane and cant leave due to the pressure the opposing tank is putting on her tower, her lvl6 roam will most likely result in tower first blood for the enemy toplaner. I don't even mind dieing to a riven once or twice, get a sunfire cape and laugh, if i die three times , get zzrot instead, she will be my cleaning lady for the next 5 minutes pentakilling zzrot minions.

obviously riven's kit needs to be exactly like a fighting game, your mouse is your joystick and your keyboard is your normal thing.

Your passive is you can use Z targeting legend of zelda style to shift from attack and roam mode

your q would do different motions based on how you move the mouse and be your light attack w would be your medium attack e would be your heavy attack ult would be your finisher that does different attacks based on what attacks you hit before.

You should've just said her playrate went up a whopping -1%!

MunchCrunchLunch8/29/2016, 4:36:50 PM1 votes

this shows you why lee sin and thresh have bad winrates. thresh and lee sin are completely fine. but when you have the highest winrate in over a year your winrate stays low.

only thing they need to do to stop the whining is give that bitch a mana bar
