this new rune system feels alot like release D3 (or atleast, for me personally)

tl;dr: 1. These changes feel like what blizzard did to D2 going into D3 (minus the auction house, and other things that have no relation to this game) 2. The power curves got pushed back and everything scales harder.

To me personally, this preseason has basically the same feeling as the D3 changes in customization In terms of our basic "old rune" Character customization . ** If they decide to go to consoles in the future**, I honestly wouldn't be surprised because Riot is following the same line of game decisions that D3 made to push the diablo franchise to consoles in that Blizzard simplified alot of mechanics to make D3 more console friendly.

Riot has incorporated a simpler system to allow for a sort of "on the fly" customization (going so far as to allow you to customize your runes before a match). And it's not a terrible decision. This new system is great for tailoring your experience a certain way and comboing certain "rune" synergies to allow for a better endgame. Also, their simplicity and accessibility now allows for a better "new-player" experience and has made the game easier for newbies and for people who want to join the game; they've even "created" rune pages for use right out the get-go. While using these new "mastery" runes: the customization is good, it feels fluid and fun.

However, they have gone the d3 route in removing inherent character scaling decisions that are outside of gear and "Mastery skills" (which is what this new rune system basically is: a hybridization of the old mastery and rune system)

So, what has happened is that in removing the rune system and removing these decision making abilities: we have lost the ability to counter certain early-game play styles and decide how our character scales early on in the game (which was basically where the old rune-system most shined).

Hence, these mastery/game changes currently push most champion "power curves" more towards end-game snowballing. This has lead to the result that small differences in power early on in the game, which occur quickly or from the start, can be abused to quickly scale up a champion up the power curve and essentially decide the game within probably the first 10min (From what I can tell, this is the case for more situations).

This is a consequence to not being able to tailor the early game while emphasizing late-game scaling: champions who fall behind, fall behind faster.

SO, from what I can see most of the new mastery's rely on takedowns, time-scalings, and other effects that mostly all snowball and compete with one another while hardly giving any early-game stats or advantages that separate them from the other mastery "rune" skills.

As for How riot will go about fixing this, we should wait and see while giving our input. Ultimately, this is Riot's creation and we should do our best to point out problems we see with it and make sure they listen so that we can improve the game as a community

Also, remember that this is the preseason. We will have problems.

(sorry guys I just took out the second part to make it shorter and i'll be making it into a separate thread)

Not a bad comparison. D3 did much of what this new rune system did to LoL. It supposedly had all these advantages and millions of possible combinations (an "improvement") when in reality it just made the character builds very vanilla.

Whomever took out the option to go hostile in Diablo should be forced to sit on a bus next to the lames who changed LoL. Let them sit in a traffic jam and eat nothing but Spam for all the evil they have done to gamers.

Lol, thanks.

I'm just glad we don't have an "AH" level problem here. I think most of the issues in the pre-season can be resolved with just a bit more variety.
