Well his ult gives you resistances based on what you build, so if they have a ton of AP champs then you can probably build more AP items.

But in general his normal build is better because it gives him much needed sustain, and either way he kills stuff pretty fast, you'll hardly notice the difference by late game.

AP Jax is quite strong lategame, but he's like.. really anti-ap, he dies very fast to other champions. During his window of ult (8s) he has like +200 or more MR

AP is better if they have a lot of squishies while AD is better if they have tanks since you'll eventually get a botrk
