Sona Counters? You mean 90% of the supp roster?

Dammit, I logged in to make this joke.

Riot is the biggest Sona counter.

Fix'd

Sona counters herself.

Zmuecat4 votes

I think even the river bug could even hold his own for a little while against Sona.

It'll still die, but she's walking away with a limp and no mana.

Rito logic:

  1. Nerf Sona to the ground

  2. Give her the ultimate skin

  3. ????

  4. Profit

Uiru22 votes

Sona's hardest counter is time.

At the rate we're going, she'll soon be nerfed while you are still in a game.

Riot can't figure out how to do a multitude of things that this game needs but they will spend weeks developing a system to allow them to hotnerf champions (and by champions, I mean Sona) in the middle of a match. ~Uiru

Time to buff Sona rito.

Though I'm happy for Sona, why hasn't Taric or Zilean received any new skins?

Because Taric is getting a VU. And Zilean.. who cares about him

Crazy Boris. Like 90% of his League videos have Zilean in it.

Really? There's already Arcade Sona. Will Dj Sona be different enough and will it be worth the money? Riot already needlessly nerfed Sona to the ground. A ultimate Dj skin for Sona only sounds like a bad idea right now.

SecretAgentHulk5 votes

But then I hear those DJ tracks (different from Arcade sounds btw) and imagine them playing in the background between casts, and, yeah, I will play the crap outta this no matter how hard they nerf Sona.

Also Rito pls can we get metal for Pentakill Sona?

Riot balance team counters Sona quite hard.

kunkudunk1 votes

There are buffs to her base stats on the pbe atm so maybe she will be not a sitting duck when the skin comes out.

Kowe The Ewok3 votes

These "buffs" come along with new nerfs...

kunkudunk3 votes

They are buffing her base ad meaning her autos hurt more, they are reverting the movement speed nerf, and they are taking some health per level to boost her health at level 1. She is very squishy early game so this helps her more than hurts her. The only change that is a rather sizeable nerf is the mana regen nerfs although this is probably to stop her from mindlessly spamming. I assume that if this change hurts her to much they will increase the effects of a spell or two or just change it back but mindless spamming is rather dull in lane. Plus they are buffing her mana regen per level so she will be able to cast more as the game goes on. She already will have greater mana regen by level 8. Over all a buff to her.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in return for the level 1 health increase, don't they reduce her overall health per level, making her actually squishier than normal after a few levels? That's just stupid, considering that her strong early game poke was countered by the fact that she was one of the squishiest champs in the game. They're essentially trying to completely change her playstyle, for no stated reason other than "clarity". I really don't think that an early to mid-game champ should have stats that balance out in the late game.

Fyzzex2 votes

Actually because she starts at a higher point but ends at the same numbers at level 18 she gets an increase in health at all levels besides 18 but the difference is smaller later on such that maybe she has 50 more health post buff at level1 but by level 11 she only has 20 more health. This is a "train a is going X mph and accelerating @ Y mph/s, while Train B is going X+20 mph and accelerating @ Y-5 mph/s. At what point (p) does Train A pass Train B?" question, where train a is sona pre buff and the stats for both trains (sona's) meet @ Point P (level 18)

Where do you get the idea that she ends at the same number? She ends about 100 HP short.

Fyzzex1 votes

Can someone post a link to these changes? I was honestly working off of the assumption that Rito was out-and-out buffing sona, not balancing her for a stronger early but weaker late game. If this was the case, my mistake for working off of conjecture

http://www.surrenderat20.net/p/current-pbe-balance-changes.html Here you go, you will have to scroll down a bit. Feel free to math out when her health passes what it would be, saves me time anyway.

Direwolfiez2 votes
  • Base HP increased to 497.6 from 482.36
  • HP Per Level decreased to 70 from 77

Source: http://www.surrenderat20.net/2015/01/127-pbe-update.html

Since I'm not a math guy, I won't crunch the numbers, but it seems that she actually took a hit in mid to late-game health in order to get a 15.24 level 1 HP increase. Not exactly worth it.

Fyzzex1 votes

From reading the current PBE changes it seems riot is shifting sona's focus more towards relying your spells for pseudo-health and regen, disengaging or poking to discourage the enemy team from engaging. More or less forcing Sona to play more passive and smart as a mage who looks for good trades while she outranges/pokes/sustains her lane opponents.

I say this because @ level 4 Sona will effectively be at less total health than pre-tweak, however changes to her mana regen also mean that during the time she has more health post-tweak(levels 1-3) she instead has less mana regen meaning bad trades will hurt more during this time, but after this point she will have more mana regen allowing her to go for more good trades that she previously couldn't take advantage of because she ran the risk of going OOM.

In assessment, this is Riot's way of rewarding better Sona players who know how to trade effectively and punishing those who aren't positioning and trading to Sona's fullest potential

I really like how Riot is like "Oh, Firecracker jinx and other skins are coming out in patch 5.2." After I bought my RP they are like "Ultimate skin DJ Sona hype." You are kidding me.

Drunk Rummate4 votes

hard engage is good for botlane counters. dont pick a defensive champion like braum and you'll be okay generally.

A Slime Appears2 votes

If Braum lands his Q and they focus her she's dead pre-6, or she's forced to sit at tower. After 6 it's even easier, because when you engage on her after you land a Q you throw up the shield and her ult is irrelevant. And then throw your own ult into the mix and it's even easier.

Ligerzz6 votes

You mean, REMIX?

even though they keep nerfing her... I still want the skin qq

AthenasVendetta2 votes

lets look at that... Legendary skins like Veigar got teasers. Okay, nothing to see here.

junglerboy166 votes

They sent out random links to DJ Sona music clips to certain "VIP" players (maybe linked to PBE accounts or something). Check it out on Surrender@20 if you want proof, he has all the videos posted.

Diamonesd2 votes

nerf sona. Release ultimate skin. maybe riot is not wholly money hungry whore as we thought.

MAZZ1M01 votes

ikr. Am I the only one pissed off they're releasing this? Now? Like wtf. I have nothing nice to say on the topic.

ModCaptainMårvelous2 votes

"Lelel rito nerfds sona den make ult skin lel"

Uh ok let's get one thing straight: This skin must have been in production for MONTHS, if not over a year. The skin design team probably had zero idea if Sona would be buffed or nerfed in this time so the grounds that Riot is just releasing it to up sona's playrate or otherwise is awful and unfounded.

L7xLoTek2 votes

True. The timing is quite poor, however.

Jalkan2 votes

Maybe it's just a legendary skin? It wasn't confirmed to be ultimate exactly...

Sukishoo4 votes

It has a website. That already shows the confirmation of Ultimate. They don't put that much into the legendary skins, those have only had an image or a short comic to tease at them, where as the Ultimate skins have have full websites.

Vesarixx1 votes

There seems to be some debate as to whether it's an ultimate or legendary skin, either way, do want.

Junkο1 votes

Not really confirmed, Final Boss Veigar got a teaser despite not being an ultimate

Adrian Blackbear1 votes

Final Boss Veigar got a teaser.

The DJ Sona pages are part of a promo site that Riot uses for bigger releases (Ultimate Skns & Big events). The only times these have been used for skins have been for Pulsefire Ezreal and Spirit Guard Udyr.

Mabye she'll get a music video.
